Hey, uh, has this ever happened? (McElroy: GAF has actively tried to fool the press)

Nah, like, you guys are commenting on his writing and his comments in regards to the games industry and the community [I'm using the word loosely, this is GAF after all].

I'm not understanding why you hate Justin. Seems like a funny guy that's a pretty hard worker. Whether you like what he produces or not doesn't seem indicative of hating him, the person.

Yeah scanning gaf for news and then complaining when they throw you a curveball because you can't be bothered to fact check is real hard work.

Dear GAF people: when I talked about your members pranking press I was referring to this:

1. It was pretty funny. 2. Still the press' job to check this stuff. I was just pointing out why GAF is a risky primary source.

I don't understand why people keep having reasonable reasons to say things or make statements but don't bother including those reasons in their actual statements when they can be taken as controversial, vitriolic or douchey.

Thread's way more embarrassing than anything Justin McElroy has done.

Nah, pretty sure there's nothing as embarrassing as his Nier incident in this thread.

I still think the part that makes him a whiny bitch is the whole telling Klepek that journalists should stick together, not the bullshit about Gaf planting fake news.

All suitable answers

Whatever you think about GAF, McElroy's reponse is still really stupid. Another journalist questions the credibility of a story and McElroy reacts by basically saying "Shut up, are you on our side our neogafs." Klepick never mentioned anything about GAF. He asked a legit question about a story and McElroy's response is to tell to accuse him of siding with "the enemy."

I know right? I especially hate it when he like, interviews people in the industry and writes hilarious reviews of games that I may potentially like or dislike. Ugh, it's like he transcends hatred and I'm almost envious of his position in life.

Explain why classifications on the internet by internet dudes are almost as brainless as describing why I'm not explaining the explanation.

[inception horn]
No, seriously, you're completely missing the point, both in that reply and 453. He isn't a comedian. He's journalist. Nobody in their right mind will take a skeptical stance of responsibility just because there's a chance he may be a nice, funny guy. It's irrelevant and unnatural.

Ladies and gentlemen. Twitter.
What did Twitter do to McElroy?

Why are you blaming twitter for McElroy saying something idiotic?

Blame Twitter? Is everyone in this thread huffing glue?

No one is going to point out the irony that a community of nerds gets their jollies off of trolling industry pundits, but expect nothing but class from their personal twitter feeds?

Wait are you posting this in a thread about an industry pundit getting his jollies trolling a community? You have that exactly backwards.

Get your fucking facts straight, man. McElroy is the one who trolled and made fun of Neogaf as a way to deflect completely unrelated criticism.

Yes. (supposed)Professionals are supposed to act professional even on Twitter. It's amazing that you don't get that.

When you're a public figure of sorts you don't just to get to take that mask off when you get home at night and pretend that no one knows you or what you do anymore.

Seriously, trolling GAF. How childish.

Oh my god he did? That's hilarious.

Thank you based Justin.

McElroy is supposed to be professional. NeoGAF, not necessarily.

It's my understanding that, THAT is optional. [See also: Ben Kuchera, Ian Bogost, Leigh Alexander, Arthur Gies, ...]

Like, I'm sure you guys only follow the most professional of vidja game journalist.

Though, I rarely hear any actual games writer refer to themselves as such.

McElroy is supposed to be professional. NeoGAF, not necessarily.

Exactly. Though with how many people are following us and waiting for us to break news I'm thinking we may have to start acting professional soon. So many journalists are relying on us so we should set a better example!

And no, I don't expect McElroy's feed to be completely professional throughout, but when it's a post concerning your job (especially something as toxic to the Verge's ethic as his protective clique post), you act professional.

Ah, the morning after.....so something that could have easily been avoided by explaining to Patrick that the story that their sister site posted, has in fact, gone through their channels and been given the go ahead, instead turns into a 10 page thread here. Brilliant.....

Twitter can be a great tool, but when you use it as if its a private portal, it can make you look like one. I bet he picks up the phone the next time he or his colleagues at his site are questioned about their content.

Oh hehe, you're so clever.

I don't even care about the GAF part.

That's horrible.

Just terrible, we should vote him out of, umm, I forget.

What are we mad about, again?

I swear I was getting closer to GAFs ultimate point.

Justin McElroy, is mean and should be professional when concerning his job. Of which we have no absolute idea as to what it is. Also, stop loving Skyrim so much.

Yikes. Someone in this thread is having a massive meltdown.

Anyway, McElroy's "piling it on" remark to Patrick is just bizarre.

Man, it certainly is easier to discuss something when you are considered a human being an not a conglomeration of posts by hundreds of people.

Have fun with your method of argument, it's working splendidly.

If you go to the verge and search neogaf, it's funny how many game articles come up with gaf as the source. No wonder it makes it hard for them to do their jobs - it's being done for them!

Argument? I'm being as silly as possible. Because, well, this is silly. It's unfortunate no one gets my humor. Now I know how Dennis Miller feels.

You can love Skyrim, but when you post your video in which you twirl lovingly with the game box,you should expect a dip in credibility.

And gaming age is not a reputable news source. So when it attempts to fool the press, you really shouldn't be affected by it.

Justin McElroy is a paid professional whose job it is to make sure his written content is properly sourced.

NeoGAF is an independant messageboard contributed to by enthusiasts.

It is not GAF's responsibility to check the source of a post prior to throwing it out there or speculating on it. It is ENTIRELY Justin McElroy's (and others) job to look further than NeoGAF at the origin of the leak before going to print with it.

I don't understand his problem. He says NeoGAF makes it difficult to do his job? It's not NeoGAF's responsibility to make it easy for him. Maybe OP's should start asking for a cut of his wage the next time he directly uses a GAF source to do his paid profession properly, if so?
