Hey, uh, has this ever happened? (McElroy: GAF has actively tried to fool the press)

So when will NeoGaf finally (and officially) issue a declaration of war against the gaming world?

Were you around for the Dyack Wars? that was close.

I think Justin is not really being serious, I think he responded weirdly the first time and is now just winding you all up. which is fine of course. :)

Oh my gosh LOL

Its not our job to do your job for you.

Wow, Dennis Miller actually inspired you? Damn.

Well GAF this really has been a hilarious learning experience for me during the laundering of my clothes. I hope this Father's Day finds you well. And that Justin McElroy stops lovingly twirling with video games and just being an all-around mean guy.

Let's stop being real and start getting polite. Over and out.

LOL. Please tell me Justin's response isn't real. It's not GAF's job to do your job for you. Fuck. If the extent of his job is copying and pasting news from gaming forums, then what's the point of being a "journalist" in the first place?

edit: He's joking. Okay. Pretty hard to tell with him. Which is telling in and of itself.

Just terrible, we should vote him out of, umm, I forget.

What are we mad about, again?

I swear I was getting closer to GAFs ultimate point.

Justin McElroy, is mean and should be professional when concerning his job. Of which we have no absolute idea as to what it is. Also, stop loving Skyrim so much.

They are just taking the piss out of him in return. Turn about and all that.

No, thats not hard to tell at all, actually.

goddamn, if you guys can't realize that's a joke, you are either A. a game journalist, B. need to get out more.

it's photoshopped from the pic in the op

It's obviously a joke, although I can't see what purpose it serves. The retroactive, "hey look, I'm joking now so obviously I was joking all along" defence isn't really appropriate here, so I'm assuming that isn't what he's trying.

EDIT: Oh, it's a shop. Now I feel like a fool.

Okay. Thanks. I can't tell the shops, I haven't seen many in my time, and it didn't seem to have pixels.

LOL, well played.

Why don't we just get along? Let's play a match of Tribes to solve this quarrel. If we win, we're right, if Justin wins, he's wrong.

Can someone explain the .gif?

During his tenure at Joystiq, Justin McElroy was slated to review Skyrim. This was a clip of a video he posted upon reciept of his review copy. Not that Joystiq ever really marketed itself as a reviews site, but, pretty poor show of objectivity as a reviewer, and made it impossible to take seriously. Highlights everything "wrong" with "games journalism" today - moneyhatting, etc.

Troll Statements, such as:

Blame Twitter? Is everyone in this thread huffing glue?

Hey wiseass, if you were paying attention from the start, GAF is dogpiling McElroy because once again (this isn't the first time) the guy has gone to publicly accessible forums and threw our entire community under the bus. Joking or not, you can't do something like that and expect backlash. NeoGAF has always prided itself on its relationship with the gaming industry as a whole, and so naturally the community gets defensive when called out in that way.

You're inciting more heat in the thread intentionally, and should probably stop.

do gaf posters get tshirts or something for providing these websites with content?

I hope so, I like t-shirts.

Justin is a "games journalist" who got wet when he received his free review copy of Skyrim and did the serious professional critic dance of joy with it.

Heh, it's a funny gif that regularly pops up on here. Hopefully people don't look too deep into it's meaning though, seemed like a bit of fun. Someone mentioned earlier that it 'discredits' him somewhat, which I completely disagree with - critics are allowed to be excited by their hobby, albeit in a purposefully over the top manner.

And similarly, critics are also not immune from disappointment, which I'd assume (read: hope) would be reflected in a review if necessary.

I always thought that was a rather apt metaphor for the state of gaming journalism. I didn't know it was a literal example...

Good on Patrick for showing some integrity when it comes to the things he attaches his name to.

I think Klepek comes off like a jerk.

He generalized, intimating that all websites that posted about the Microsoft leak didn't do any research, when it was shown in this thread that The Verge reporter actually did do some digging before posting the story.

But once again, missing the point here - this is a guy who has repeatedly thrown professionalism to the wind when dealing with GAF. Do you recall when he came on the forum to broker good will for Joystiq so they might be unbanned?

This discussion is about Justin McElroy's public comments RE: NeoGAF. Tom from the Verge, as you stated, clarified that Verge, not Polygon, ran the story - but all of that has no bearing on the issue at hand, which is McElroy's conduct.

Maybe Evilore should throw a Verge tempban up, until Polygon's on their own domain, and transfer said tempban into a permanent one on Polygon. You may even get to see a repeat of mister tough guy games journalist come grovel for forgiveness again!
