spice and wolf is awesome. they don't have season 2. noticed season 2 was on this station called Fun HD on U-Verse... $7/month later i have now this magical channel called:

Funimation HD! Mind. Blown!

My Netflix is free. Some one else pays for it. I just use it.

I still wish we could get the later seasons of Shin Chan on Netflix but they were only released on DVD.

I wish Funimation would offer subbed versions on Netflix. I have to use Hulu for a lot of their shows.

S1 of BBC's "Sherlock" is on now. Fantastic show, and has just a touch of Dr. Who thrown in (not surprising consider Moffat is involved in the show).

Speaking of Who, wife and I just finished up S4 but haven't watched "End of Time" quite yet.
Poor Donna. :(
Still, should be fun to see Mr. Smith play the Doctor, instead of the other way around. ;)

What about if you're on a streaming plan only?

Netflix doesn't really enforce any particular limit for the # of concurrent streams per account now, but that will most likely change before the end of the year when they introduce family membership plans.

I just hope those are reasonably priced. We really should have at least two free streaming accounts, but if it's something like $2 extra I could deal.

I'm searching for a good way to get notifications when movies appear on NF Instant. Feedfliks charges $10 a year, whereas GoWatchIt is free and also has alerts for many other formats. Any suggestions?

For smaller batches of titles I recommend CueThat. I got it for Firefox and as a Safari bookmarklet for iPhone.

I found this website that shows the latest additions to Amazon Prime as well as Netflix:

http://www.tvandmoviesnow.com/

Seems like a pretty useful site as far as figuring out what's been added to Amazon Prime recently and how Amazon's overall library compares to Netflix.

It doesn't list updated expiration dates like InstantWatcher yet, but you can categorize the latest additions to Amazon/Netflix by movies, TV shows, and HD/SD quality.

I don't know if you were addressing me personally RBH, thanks if you were- but what I'm looking for is something that will notify me when the specific movies I've been wanting to see appear on NF.

I've been managing my watch queue on IMDB. The watch list filters let me see which of my movies are on Amazon, Prime, Hulu, Crackle. But NOT Netflix. :/

40 episodes of I Love Lucy are in HD on Amazon. That gives me hope it'll be released on BD one day. But then again Quantum Leap hasn't been released on BD despite a few episodes appearing in HD on the Universal channel many years ago.

Sgt. Frog is awesome if you're looking for a good comedy anime. Sorta like a slightly toned down version of Funimation's Shin-Chan dub. I highly recommend it.

Netflix has announced changes to its API program that will render some third-party services useless. Starting today, third-party developers will no longer be able to export a user's viewing and rating history, display search results that compare Netflix's library to those of other competing services — a feature currently found with Google TV and Xbox 360's Bing Search — or charge consumers for services that use the API in any way. Additionally, data obtained through the streaming service's API cannot be distributed to any other third party. The changes are effective immediately, although apps and services that currently use these features will have until September 15, 2012 to be updated.

Netflix made some pretty significant changes to its developer API Friday.

The changes rip away key pieces of information that could be useful for third-party Netflix applications. [See update below] Developers can no longer distribute/use content from any other video service other than Netflix or for search and discovery of content linking to competing services. This more or less kills all usage by “TV guide” apps, such as the wonderfully useful Matcha.tv. There are also new restrictions on viewing/rental history and when titles are allowed to be displayed within a third-party service.

“We have been evolving our API program to focus on servicing the rapidly growing universe of these devices used by our more than 26 million streaming members globally. As the API program evolves with the business, we now need to make some changes,” Netflix writes in a developers blog post about the changes. “While we will continue to support third parties as they develop and offer Web sites and applications that interact with Netflix, these changes are designed to do so in a way that is aligned with our broader objectives.”

Those objectives apparently include severing its ties with anyone not directly affiliated with the company. The company’s new usage terms states that developers also can’t make money — directly or indirectly — through usage of the API. I’m wondering where this leaves hugely popular web service InstantWatcher, a site that pulls in anonymous viewing habits of Netflix users to show the most popular, newest, and oldest content available through the streaming portion of the service.

Update 6/18/2012 (10:32 a.m.): A Netflix spokesperson pointed out some errors in our initial description of the API changes.

Apparently, the company wanted to make sure other services were not using meta data (video description, rating, etc.) on videos from competing services, as this information was developed by Netflix. It’s also clamping down on the resale of data to other businesses, but not prohibiting developers using the Netflix API from monetizing directly from consumers.

The full statement has been pasted below:

We will continue to provide catalog information, queue capability, expiration within a two week window as well as the possibility to deep link to a title.
We are not prohibiting sites from showing competing services, however we do not want anyone to use Netflix content such as titles and descriptions to advertise a competing service.
We’re not prohibiting developers from monetizing their applications by selling them directly to consumers. We will not, however, permit resale of our information in a business-to-business fashion.

We will look closely at all the comments and clarify the terms of use if needed.

Probably everybody but me already knows about this but what the heck:

If you don't mind fly-by-wire martial arts, this is a fun flick. Cool story. I enjoyed it.

Here's the Netflix blurb:

When unexplained spontaneous combustions kill a pair of dignitaries in 7th-century China, the nation's first female emperor, Wu Zetian calls upon the trusted Detective Dee to solve the mystery in this stylish action epic.

omg omg. I have all of them already, but still cool it's finally getting some wider circulation. It's absolutely hilarious.

I suspect they're trying to prime people for the US movie release coming.

I jokingly clicked on this show because my gf said I could pick any new show to watch. I made it 5 minutes before I had to turn it off. Granted I don't watch anime at all but it truly is hard to understand how people watch this. A frog pulling off a girls skirt with a vaccum cleaner? That's about as far as I made it. Don't even get me started on the intro.

Well, as far as the skirt thing goes, that's pretty much the only time something like that happens. And yeah, I agree that the first opening song isn't the best, although it has grown on me. But as you said, you don't watch anime at all, so I suppose it's not really for you, and I won't try to sell you on it. Different strokes for different folks, and all. *shrug*

I tried watching it recently.
I love the manga and figured I would love this petty easily. I could not get over the Seargent's voice actor though. Definitely not the voice I had in my mind while reading the manga. It completely put me off.
I don't know if the Japanese VA sounds similar or not (didn't see the sub option or I woulda picked it first anyway).

It might be a great show. I would assume it is, if it is anything like the manga. But his voice sucks and I hate it.

Ugh, just noticed most of the newer foreign releases, specifically Asian movies are finally getting subs and not awful dubs. But the problem is its not hardcoded, and not all devices are capable of displaying it.....like my lcd tv.

How does that work? Why won't your TV display them?

I watched Dust to Glory with some friends yesterday evening. I was reminded how much I want to race and how much I want to travel and how much of the world I have to see.

I think its a software side issue. Netflix is rolling out updates but priority is for devices like the PC, PS3/360, etc. My LCD has Netflix but the UI is not as intuitive as the PS3, hence there is not even an option for turning on subs.

Yeah, I saw people screaming bloody murder about Detective Dee supposedly not having subs (the audio is Chinese). I guess their devices either don't support subs or they don't know how to turn them on.

On the AppleTV (2nd generation in our case), you turn on subs by pressing up twice (to make the program description appear) and then holding down the select button until a screen appears with the subtitle options.

Netflix bigwigs must be monitoring this thread because I just flipped on some Battle Royale, and the subs are now hardcoded and viewable. Good job Netflix.

This is a great, GREAT movie! If you liked that, you should check out On Any Sunday. It is another great doc about motorcycles with Steve McQueen. And if you are into racing, then you HAVE to check out Senna.

With the 5th season of Breaking Bad starting on July 15th on AMC, I wouldn't be surprised to see Season 4 pop up soon on Netflix, if previous patterns are anything to go by.

Watched Pontypool based on GAF's recommendation. The idea behind the infection was absolutely terrible, but it was wrapped up in fantastic acting, dialog, and execution. If they had only come up with a better idea for that plot line I would feel comfortable recommending this movie to everybody I know.
