The thing is, for the "black people don't tip crowd." the only mistake is the leaving the voice mail on her phone.

However, if you can't tip your delivery driver, you really shouldn't be ordering in food.

Obviously this shouldn't be a consequence for not tipping though. Damn he's full of hate.
 
It's your employer's job to pay your wages, not the customer's. If you're so desperate you have to rely on charity to supplement your pay something is wrong with the industry as a whole.

While not being able to tip (yet being able to own an iphone...) is bad, it did lead to that scumbag exposing his ignorance and getting himself fired. I'm only disappointed that they didn't show his name and face to make sure this follows him for life.
 
What an idiot and a racist fool. He deserved to be fired. Not everyone tips but still other people do. As for tipping, I hate the fact there is some stigma on Black people for not tipping when a lot of people do not tip and if a Black person does tip it does nothing to stop that stupid stimga. I tip when I can, if I do not tip one day I usually make up for it next time with a bigger tip. The Chinese food delivery guy knows that about me.

Tip or choose not to?

In all but extreme cases I tip very generously, but I would rather tip be included (and hidden) in the price with the option of throwing in something on top for great service rather than a tip being expected of the customer no matter the service quality.

The problem with this reasoning is that if tips were included all prices would probably be 12-15ish percent higher than they now. At least with the current system you have the freedom to deduct something if service is reaaaalllly bad.

While I tend to agree with you, on principal, I take it that you're not from the U.S. Am I right?

Tip-based jobs over here (and there are many of them) tend to involve the employer paying the worker minimum wage or less, which means that what they make in tips is essentially what makes the difference between getting paid jack shit and making a livable income.

But yeah, it's shitty. I don't miss working for tips one bit, I'll tell you that.

This is..ridiculous. I don't enter into any social contract with anyone when I order something. I tip because I want to. If don't want to, then I don't. If I can't tip like the person in this story, I don't disqualify myself from being able to use delivery services if I can properly pay the price of the item - because that's all I'm legally required to do.

this 1000x over...sense of entitlement from some people is beyond words..but then I'm from UK and its never been right to tip drivers, restaurants sure...but drivers, nah ain't happening.
 
lol all this aside i chuckled at the way the manager of the pizza place said : " This is not at all what Buck's Pizza stands for" or something, dunno maybe it's just me but it made me wonder, what DO they stand for? He almost made it sound like some grand altruistic venture that normally stands for integrity, progress, and human rights or something while it's just a pizza place ;D

not hating, it just sounded exaggerated to me.. like that manager is probably in the wrong business, he should be spokesman for a bigger company or whatever.

That rant was absolutely top of the class though :)
 
Tips are great. Do a good job, get a good tip. Do a bad job, get a bad tip. Generally speaking.

I made a ton of money working in restaurants/bars while in college and while I was looking for a career job.

4 days a week, 6 hour shifts, making $700-800 cash or more.

Yup.

You get a tip if I feel like it/have the money to spare/you arrived within a reasonable time frame.

I'm already paying a delivery charge so I don't owe you anything.
 
I was a delivery driver throughout high school and only really cared if people didn't tip if they made me drive all the way to the edge of our delivery zone.

If I'm ordering pizza now I'll just go pick it up. Best solution if you don't have cash/don't feel like tipping
 
I hate the whole tipping thing in the USA, but you can't just opt-out without consequences. Usually those consequences include a dirty look. They should definitely not include name calling or hateful phonecalls.

With food delivery, you always tip. But thing is, tipping jars and gratuity lines on receipts show up EVERYWHERE now, even when I think it is not acceptable. Tipping culture is out of hand.
 
1. We don't know if there was a delivery charge.

2. I don't remember anything about the pizza being late or poor service.

The owner does look seriously contrite though.

Then don't order in. The delivery guy is using his own personal vehicle and most likely paying for the gas himself. It's really a big deal to throw the guy a few dollars?

Are you really so dense? It's not really a contract you dumbass, it's an expectation that you're supposed to tip. Yea, it's stupid and bullshit. But that's what you're supposed to do, and by not tipping you're not a rebel or fighting the power. You're being an asshole, stiffing a guy who makes a shitty amount of money.
 
The moral of the story is that tip-based pay-rates are a god damn disgrace. It's just disgusting.

Horrible. I had friends who would always want to come along with us for lunch and I never realized until about 4-5 times after going that they never tipped. We'd go there at least twice a week, too. It took the waitress pulling me aside and asking me privately why some of us didn't tip and if their service was bad. I had to apologize and walk back to work embarrassed because I didn't even know who would deliberately go out, receive mostly excellent service, but never compensate the waitress.

Delivery dude is still despicable.

Not a big deal. If he gets there within a decent time frame then he'll get a few bucks usually.

I don't really care if he's using his car or gas. That's what he decided to do for work.

I like how people say "Well don't eat at restaurants or get delivery"

No, I'm pretty sure I'll keep doing what i've been doing.
