...but what does it do that an iPad doesn't? I just returned my iPad after buying it and realizing it wasn't useful for my lifestyle at all. Does this have better specs or something? I noticed the larger storage space...but wtf does ClearType HD mean anyway?

Priced to compete is good enough, but that means it might be a bit more expensive than their competition, otherwise they'd just blow the lid off of it and announce the price.

Whatever, good show.

ya, they're gonna wait to see overall reactions before seeing how much they can try and sell this for.

If high praise, for small loss.

If low praise, for a bigger loss.

Since this will be highly anticipated by most, I expect a pricey product.
Quick everybody, hate on this shit hard.

the fact that they're not stating the price means they could be hedging a little bit higher than the iPad for the ARM devices, and using ultrabooks as the basis for the Pro pricing.

I'm an all-Apple household, but I gotta say, they really impressed me. Nice job Microsoft. I think these will do quite well.

Just got online to check out the announcement and color me very impressed. Looks like a great product. I'm looking forward to hearing more about it and trying one out for myself. The design looks nice as well. So unlike Microsoft. :)

AAAAnnnnnddd they didn't stick the landing >< Haven't they learned by now that it's pivotal to announce a price when you unveil new tech like this? Ugh.

That said the device itself looks very impressive.

All the major players are now making their own hardware. Goodbye OEM model. I guess they're seeing that OEMs will only commoditizes their products.

There is no way Apple can turn iOS into something that competes with Windows 8 in that time. The iPad now looks like an oversized phone.

Now? The iPad has always looked like an oversized phone. That's why I never bought one, I already have an iPhone and I'm not an old lady with bad eyesight.

Really curious why battery life wasn't something discussed in that engineering segment.

Worrying in its omission.

All told, though, this is surprisingly less of an iPad competitor and more of a Macbook Air competitor. And I think it probably will kick some ass in that space.

Depending on battery life and price for the Pro versions, I think this could be quite the game changer. A lot of people looking for ultra-portable laptops or tablets could just get this instead.

Alright, good announcement. Definitely interested, but not sold. Need to know concrete details and whether the actual product lives up to their promises, which is impossible to know without a hands-on.
