I'm so bad at this lol.

No.

Windows 8 has it's own marketplace. For MetroUI apps that will run on tablets and desktops.

Why, when this question is asked, do people only ask about XBLA games? Do people not realize XBLA games take the same hardware power as full blown Xbox 360 games, and thus, any device that actually runs XBLA games could just be described as running Xbox 360 games?

I don't think anyone expects to put in a xbox dvd in this thing and it expect it to work.

Probably because every XBLA title is digitally available by default where only certain 360 titles are available digitally. I think that's the way the question is trending in. People don't care to ask about xbox 360 games because you aren't going to be shoving dvd's into this thing

Even if XBLA was made available, the existing game library would not immediately be available. They would likely have to be re-licensed.

Yeah I need some really good glamour shots of this thing.

well than you can get the standard version if battery power matters to you. They covered both bases.
I dunno - looks like they've covered half of my bases with each version.

My dream machine is a tablet form factor software development machine with at least 7 hours battery life to it. If I have to keep waiting that's fine.

I'm really not seeing why your average Joe is going to want to go out and buy a "Microsoft Surface". Why can't they just leverage their Xbox brand name? That's the only way they'll be able to compete directly with the iPad.

This will just be another Zune.

Because it's not primarily a gaming device. They are trying to position it as an iPad that can get work done, rather than just being a fun toy.

Price, maybe?

I guess. If televisions are any indication, most people care about price more than anything. Than again, operating systems and application support are a lot more noticeable than image quality on a television, so I think people will be less willing to compromise.

My biggest issue with the iPad is that, at least for me, it felt more like a luxury item. This however feels more like a production than consumption product. I'm really feeling it.

Exactly.

Surface seems like something I could be productive with, while the iPad just feels like a toy.

Do regular people actually care about getting work done on a tablet? I don't think so.

I doubt this thing will sell nearly as good as the Kindle Fire, let alone the iPad.

This is a very meaningful and interesting take on what a tablet/mobile computer can be. The only other meaningful take I've seen is the iPad and in some sense the PadPhone abd Atrix. Who knows how this will pan out, but at the very very least this IS something worth paying attention to.

Release it in Zune Brown plz.

I guess I'll just chime in with how non-plussed I am, since that's a thing to do. I don't want to buy the product that was just unveiled, and I feel that people who are genuinely excited about it need to know about my precious opinion. I'm going to go outside and yell at some cars now.

People who didn't like or care for the announcement can pick one single specific detail and says how they're still behind the competition.

What's the point? Nitpick all you want, when was the last time there was a fully supported software and hardware implementation of a tablet + desktop device? Oh, this is a niche product and people won't buy things at prices more expensive than iPad? Who the fuck cares. This is cool and useful to a lot of people. Other OEMs are already making similar devices? Well there are a lot of OEMs making similar Android devices to iPad don't they? Aside from one or two they don't even match up hardware wise and the software is definitely not up to par. So when there is finally a worthwhile alternative to the iPad, all you can care is the resolution not being equal when we have been used to it all these years? Seriously? Damn you.

One thought about the keyboard - it looks great and very compact but it's kinda floppy I don't know if it could really replace my MacBook Air which while super-light is still sturdy enough to balance nicely on my lap when I'm on the couch.

Because it's not primarily a gaming device. They are trying to position it as an iPad that can get work done, rather than just being a fun toy.

Though I see no reason why they couldn't just have it set up running D3 on the Pro version. I'd gladly take my lower end of my Steam library that will run on this device, plus a bunch of games from GoG, over most of the games on iPad.

The RT isn't 1080P.

indeed. maybe there are too many stats and differences flying around to even have a productive conversation at this point.

we need one of those graphs with check boxes for RT vs Pro. To stem the tide.

I can see why tech heads and GAFers think stuff like the keyboard and full OS access are cool features, but will the general public care?
the general public knows how to get around Windows and their existing software will generally work on a Pro model. So yes.

If they're in the market for a $1000 Pro tablet when they can buy an Android or Apple tablet for half that.

Because the xbox is a toy. They are clearly trying to market this as a more upscale offering.

I could see many people buying it as a laptop replacement. I really only need a computer for MS office and the internet, and I imagine a good number of people are the same. They are trying to cater to a different market than just copying the ipad as almost every android tablet has done thus far.

Nah, they won't give a shit and this thing will flop big time.

Zune all over again.

Why not have an Xbox Tablet to compete with iPad and a Windows Tablet for pros?

I AM ANGRY AT YOU!

yeah it may not be suitable for sitting in your lap.

awaiting 3rd party accessories!

Definitely. The keyboard looks like a compromise compared to the MacBook Air, but I imagine having a touchscreen and being able to "transform" it into a tablet at any time will provide a lot of benefit that can't be had on the Air.

The million dollar question for me is, and maybe it's been covered already, will the pro version be powerful enough for legit PC gaming?

If that thing were available today, I would have already ordered one. Seriously impressive showing.

Does the windows background color change to match the cover when attached? I don't want to assume, but I think that would be a nice little touch.

The only bummer right here. Might be able to look past it because of the stylus, but we'll see...

What some people are missing is the appeal for businesses on the Pro Version. Running a full MS Office suite and having the Digital Ink makes it one hell of a piece of business hardware.

This is also why no Xbox branding. They're not just aiming for casual users, they want the business users as well.
