Edge has a short interview with Starbreeze's CEO. They go to say this:
But there's no arguing with the figures: Syndicate sold poorly - an estimated 150,000 copies worldwide
It doesn't sound like the data comes from the CEO or EA. Can people in the know suggest if this figure is accurate enough?

Also in the interview:
"Yes, I'm still proud of it," he said. "To have the courage to reboot the franchise… We knew from the get-go that there was going to be a small but very vocal [group] of gamers and journalists that was going to hate us whatever route we took.

"If we didn't do an exact copy of the game, they'd hate us. If we did do an exact copy, they'd say we didn't innovate. They were never ours to win; it was a lost battle from the get-go.

"In comparison to other triple-A teams, in terms of people and money, we're very small. I'm not going to tell you exactly what Syndicate cost to make - I can't due to NDAs - but it was substantially less than what the big in-house publishing studios would have spent, definitely."

That money they used to get Skrillex to remix the original game's theme could have been used for marketing.

Would like to know what went on with EA behind the scenes, because for a would-be AAA game, it definitely wasn't marketed much...

I've never been so happy to see a game bomb before. EA truly deserved this.

"If we didn't do an exact copy of the game, they'd hate us. If we did do an exact copy, they'd say we didn't innovate. They were never ours to win; it was a lost battle from the get-go.

Oh yeah because everyone has been hating on the Xcom game coming out this year right? And everyone loves the Xcom FPS instead? Fucking stupid.

I'm kind of glad this reboot bombed even if it's sad to see a talented smaller studio fail. The second quote is especially interesting. It would be so awesome if EA could give Starbreeze Mirror's Edge 2 to minimize risk.

Just make Mirror's Edge 2 EA!

Absolutely loved the demo.

However, I've been waiting for the price to drop, because I knew it was going to BOMBA thanks to EA doing absolutely nothing for it, marketing-wise.

Yet, it refuses to fall. It's a bomba at being a bomba

DOUBLE BOMBA.

I rented it but sent it back before I got to the end because it was so god damn hard. Frustrating. Very glad I didn't buy it.

Yea I mean look at all the hate Firaxis's strategy reboot is getting... oh wait.

That's sad, it looked like a really interesting game to me. Starbreeze is a cool studio too.

starbreeze was a cool studio, pretty sure they are not anymore. judging by syndicate they are not. it's not an interesting game at all.

exactly. if the new syndicate had had a single thought put into how to take anything about the originals and molding it into an interesting modern game he would have had a point, but there was not.

I just completed it on PC, and it definitely looks interesting (it runs well, too), but it's incredibly scripted, and very limited. The gunplay is very satisfying, though, when you get to shoot.

Yeah all of the talent at that studio left, as was stated multiple times during Syndicate's unveiling and up to its release. But people didn't want to believe.

They can talk all they want, about rebooting, "innovating" (are you kidding me?) and what not, but at the end of they day they just made an average game and tried to sell it for the same price as actually good games. It's not that hard, really.

That Skrillex track was sick.

I thought the game was awesome. Also had a great time playing co-op with friends. I actually still play the co-op. Would highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan of cyberpunk.

Coolest part of the game was all the first person stuff where it felt like you were actually controlling a dude and not a floating gun. I spent a good 10-15 mins running into walls and knee high cover with different guns to see how he'd hold them around corners and whatnot. The game reminded me why I hated boss battles in most FPS games though.

Also, some of the guns covered HALF of the fucking screen when you had them equipped and the low as heck FOV didn't help. That shit is horrible.

this would have sold much better if it resembled the original.

On PC alone it would have. Steam users have a huge love for games that resemble old "forgotten" classics. Deus Ex did record numbers for a single player game last year before Skyrim came out. Xcom will do amazing as well, just watch. That will make this situation all the sweeter.

Yes it is, it's an very interesting game with some very cool mechanics. did you play it?

yes, I've got it on origin. it's about as interesting as the shit cityinteractive used to churn out in shitbin loads.

and all that stuff is from thedarkness

That's what they get for making it yet another first-person shooter. The notion that fans would have hated them if they made it closer to the gameplay of the original series is horseshit.

Well, I bought it, and even if the SP was lackluster, I have to say that the co-op was VERY fun, I thought that is was worth the price (30€) only for the co-op. But I agree that it wasn't a 60€ game.

What a giant steamy heap of bullshit.

And that small but vocal group of gamers and journalists goes by another name too: Your previous fans.

What BS. Throwing away the series' original fanbase chasing CoD is what doomed the game, not a loud, small contingent as they would like to believe.

So when is EA shutting down the coop servers? Because I want to play the coop one day and I dont want to put money down on this game and POOF cant play it anymore.
