i think you should work in your beard. at least trim your moustache a little (it's going in your lip =( ). and the wait 3 or 4 weeks more and check what you have to shave or trim. but it could look good!!

So I shaved off most of my facial hair for the first time in a couple years.

Why not meet in the middle and just go for some scruff? I think you look better clean shaven but maybe just a little bit of scruff would look good.
You can pull off both, though you look sad in your bearded photo, which automatically makes me choose the clean(ish) shaven one.
do you mean that you poorly hid the woman in the lake or that you're simply seeking out female companionship

even though I just have a goatee, my mum was kinda stunned when she saw me. she said "wow, you like different.." and she was a bit puzzled and as far as I am concerned, I did change in that last half year or so and it's not just about putting in the "real" (yeah psychoanalysis here) that you changed, but that you feel like being manlier, just for the hell of it, at least I do think about that too.

Since I could grow facial hair when I was around 12 I've probably only shaven my face completely 3 or 4 times. I feel naked without it.
Sometimes I'll make a poor attempt at growing a beard but usually I just have a goatee and mustache going.

I'm pretty lazy so I have a beard a lot because I'm too lazy to shave, haha.
It's usually either from laziness or what I feel most comfortable with at the moment.
I have pretty sensitive skin so shaving fucking suuuucks. If my skin is being especially irritable I'll grow out a very short, stubbly beard. I don't let it get past that though since when it grows out it doesn't look very good.
I know I look better with out a beard so I try to stick with a clean face or just stubble most of the time.

I like messing with my facial hair and hair style. I feel boring without it. It's more me and though I know many women prefer a short style with a shaved face I feel I should be attracting women who are attracted to me being myself.
This too. I can't shave my neck with a razor without getting razor bumps.
I finally bought a decent electric shaver but it still misses a few hairs on my neck.

I think Beards just make you look more badass and tough but I always keep it clean and at most will go with stubble. I don't really have the luxury of being able to mess around with my looks.

I usually keep at least a goatee because I don't like how I look without any facial hair.
Last time I fully shaved, i.e. last summer, it was simply because "why not?". I regretted it the next day because I got a rash on my cheeks and chin. My skin hate shaving. -_-
