Hmmm...only two colors?
Maybe I'll wait a little longer for it.

[Update: Nintendo says that the U.S. version WILL come with an AC adapter. Japan is doing their own thing over there.]
Isn't the top screen 4.88 inches? That would be around 107 PPI.
This compares to other portable devices like such:
Code:107 -- 3DSXL 128 -- Original PSP 132 -- 3DS 163 -- Original iPhone 221 -- Vita 219 -- Samsung Galaxy SII 326 -- Retina iPhone
So 1 pixel ~= 4 pixels on Vita.
Oh my god. If they don't release black on launch I'm holding out. Red and blue are fugly. From Nintendo Facebook:
I just announced Nintendo 3DS XL which has a 90% larger screen than the original! Its coming to stores on Aug., 19 for $199.99 U.S. MSRP. What color will you choose Red or Blue?
- Regginator
The image of the black inside is what the red and blue look like inside.

Why didn't Nintendo include a built-in 2nd analogue stick?
I'm curious why the XL costs more than the 3DS. If the pixels are larger, isn't the screen easier to produce?

richisawesome said:EU isn't getting an AC adapter either, it's not just Japan. However, we're getting it earlier with the superior silver colour, so all balances out well.

Red and blue are HIDEOS. Christ.
Black it is.
So is it safe to say that this system won't scratch its own screen like the original 3DS?
Well, the XL isn't a true revision in my eyes, it doesn't replace the base model, it's just an alternative.
Glad to see sanity wins at least one round.http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-officially-announces-3ds-xl-199-on-aug-19th-229946.phtml

DS to DS Lite was a revision, the OG DS model was phased by a device with the same form factor. 3DS to 3DS XL is not a revision, is an additional Sku for people who want a big 3DS, just like the DSi and DSi XL.That's just moving the goal posts to be frank. It is a revision. If we don't consider this to be one then all DS models won't count as revisions as well. This definitely is a revision and they lied. End of story
Where is this no ac adapter thing coming from, I absolutely do not believe that. There is some miscommunication going on, there is just no way any company on their stupidest day would pull a PR nightmare like that, least of all Nintendo.
no black on the inside.
HahahaDoes the US version have a second stick/retina display?
Red and blue are HIDEOS. Christ.
Black it is.
You're completely right, sorry about that. Fixed PPI table:Isn't the top screen 4.88 inches?
4.18" × 2.51" (10.63cm × 6.38cm) = 95.59 PPI
96 -- 3DSXL
128 -- Original PSP
132 -- 3DS
163 -- Original iPhone
219 -- Samsung Galaxy SII
221 -- PS Vita
326 -- Retina iPhone
Nintendo is just as bad as apple when it comes to revisions
Uhhh I'm pretty sure a larger screen costs more to make than a smaller screen.

I was only talking about the XL version, mind you. A resolution double wouldn't improve the visuals, but it would allow the larger version to retain the visual fidelity of the smaller version. How much more would you say?
But does it really require that much more power for a resolution boost?
That AC adapter info should definitely be added to the opening. (And maybe even the thread title.)
Glad to hear it.
So buying a black one. Glad I waited.

There is no black. Anywhere.
Maybe the battery lasts so long you won't ever need an AC adapter.
Guys think about it.
if XL had all the CPP functions, it would have 4 triggers.
And would literally be a game brick.
Does this mean another 3DS revision next year with a second analog stick?

Yup. Wii U influence in full effect...minus the second analog stick...
Good thing that Nintendo waited till after E3 to show this.. They wouldn't have wanted to upset the balance of the show by presenting something people would get excited for...
