[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

That's just moving the goal posts to be frank. It is a revision. If we don't consider this to be one then all DS models won't count as revisions as well. This definitely is a revision and they lied. End of story

Denial of rumors is a completely normal thing. Besides the fact that that story was full of various bits of information, and Nintendo just gave a blanket "they have a bunch of stuff wrong" statement.

Thats because it's not a native scale. PSP games look amazing on the Vita because the Vitas resolution is precisely 2x the PSP. The 3DSxl could have done the same.

Super late reply, but with bilinear filtering on, PSP games don't actually look that good on Vita. With bilinear filtering off, the graphics get scaled perfectly, so there's no difference.

Really, there's no point improving the resolution unless the games actually have graphical assets designed for that resolution.

Edit: The OLED screen is really what makes PSP games look so good on Vita. The increased resolution doesn't help.

USA - AC ADAPTER INCLUDED
EVERYWHERE ELSE - NO AC ADAPTER, SOLD SEPARATELY.

Confirmed. You better believe it.

I will wait till unboxing video, that just makes zero sense and if Nintendo were to try something like that they would have so many CS calls in one day regardless of territory, just no. Are they not including the 2GB SD card either?

Weren't games/apps re-released/updated because of the resolution change? I remember lots of complains of games and apps looking blurry on the new resolutions.

Something similar happened recently with the new iPad.

At east in those cases, updates are a way to fix things, but with retail games while updates are possible is not like the 3DS also got extra hardware bump to handle said increases.

Nintendo is not going to change of handheld each year. I agree iOs situation is a mess, but Nintendo is not in that scenario.

This is the bigger screen 3DS is going to have, ever. Nintendo could have improved the resolution and ask developers to introduce two resolutions on their games, changing automatically according to the version of the handheld (not rocket science) without the user noticing anything. The cost of such a bump on resolution is not big and the result would be completely worth it, IQ wise.

Wait, what?

EU is getting the Silver/Black colour (the top cover looks like an ipad's reverse side), and it's launching earlier than the USA - 28th July. Those pros for myself weigh out the negative of having no AC adapter (which was confirmed in the UK stream).

oh for fucksake. They announced it in the EU stream. They explicitly stated it won't have one in the box. They showed the packaging for the AC adapter to be sold seperately at retail. How much more evidence do you need? And there's a 4GB SD included.

If you're in the USA, you'll get an AC adapter in the box. Anywhere else in the world, you won't.

Can't wait to see how the 3D effect looks on it, and how it impacts graphics (pixelisation disappointed me on DS XL)

They actually upped that to 4GB.

Yeah I'm curious too. I swear I read somewhere that 3DS's upper screens are surrounded by black cause Nintendo claims it enhances the 3D effect. Interesting that they ditched this option with the revision.

Guys to clarify the colours:

Japan: Silver, Red, White
EU: Silver, Red, Blue
NA: Blue, Red

All except white have pure black interiors, which I think is where the confusion is coming from. The 'colours' are just different outer top plates.

Thank you. This.

It makes sense to update Apps for newer resolutions... being digital, etc.

But almost nobody's going to release updates for physical DS game cards... It will be a hassle to download them. Most of Nintendo's audience won't do that. No one's gonna bother.

And are new games gonna support the higher resolution? So they'd have to be tested on two resolutions? Or would old school 3DS units not be able to play these games?

Headaches.

Like I said: Pipe. Dream.

It's ok to dream about a higher resolution... I get that. But this attitude of "awww why isn't it there?" Absolutely unreasonable.

Well you'll pay extra for that processing power... It would be like a new graphics chip, basically. And it's not even for new games... it's to merely re-render current ones for a really tiny sharpness benefits in 3D games (while meanwhile all the 2D assets look like shit). Who would want to pay extra for that? Why would Nintendo, who is trying to cut costs, not increase them, ever do that?

Or would you suggest that alongside this, a new generation of games that take advantage of the extra processing power, which couldn't be played on old 3DS? We would call that "a new console", and 1.5 years into 3DS, that's not quite in the cards...

As a side point... I bet you'll find that a blown up 3DS looks better than you'd expect it to in your imagination. The original DS XL looked great.

That makes sense.

At any rate, the DSi XL had mostly 2D games, did it not? It seems it may hit the 3DS XL harder... but we shall see.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this XL isn't a replacement but another option to be sold along side the current model.

Ugh; not happy with the US colors at all. I wanted that white beauty. I'll go with blue...unfortunately.

That said, THIS is exactly what I wanted. I know the 3DS has great games and I have one but hardly play it; screen too small for me; well, compared to all the gaming I did on the DSi XL. I doubted a 3DS XL would be made, at least so soon, until Nikkei spilled the beans.

Now, with this and my Vita...oh man, I'm SO set.

PS: Round corners mimic round corners of original DSi XL. I guess this new bad boy is also meant to appeal more to the casual gamers / older people that play games. I don't think it looks better or worse than the regular 3DS, just different. The main thing, the humongous screens, is the most attractive thing. BTW, stylus; still weirdly set at the back or moved to the side like it always should've been?

The only thing that will get me to upgrade my 3DS: Is the crosstalk reduced?

Maybe bigger pixels have an effect there, I have no idea, I'm thinking not. Need to restudy some optics :p.

Fuck, Europe gets silver?

You jerks deserve your tanking currency :(

You gotta be fucking kidding me. US gets the worst colors while Japan gets white? WTF.

Is this bigger than the DSi XL or same size? Anyone know?

Amazing. Can not wait to play NSMB 2 on that beast.

Love the fact that they did not put s second stick on there.

Hopefully, a different color at launch...white is kinda ugly.

90% of people laughed at the DSi XL reveal, which is now considered the best DS design most.
