[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

No second analog stick? what the fuck?

Also, was the black color on the screen a bullshit story then? ;( one of the things I hated about the original 3DS

I had the Nintendo DS that had the red cover and black body, but I'm not sure which one to get... Actually, I might have to skip on this until I get the Wiiu

That makes sense.

At any rate, the DSi XL had mostly 2D games, did it not? It seems it may hit the 3DS XL harder... but we shall see.

Actually I think both 2D and 3D will look just fine at that resolution.

The 2d/3D distinction was because, if we were talking about the dream of re-rendering the graphics in a new resolution the graphics, 3D could do it, while 2D could not.

This...is gorgeous.

Ehh, my 3DS can barely fit into my pocket as it is. I already worry every time I sit down I'm going to crack the damn thing. Why is a bigger version such an improvement? Someone convince me.

People who downright pass on this thing because of the color instead of being just "ugh.. oh well" and getting it anyway are the weirdest people ever

Guys to clarify the colours:

Japan: Silver, Red, White
EU: Silver, Red, Blue
NA: Blue, Red

All except white have pure black interiors, which I think is where the confusion is coming from. The 'colours' are just different outer top plates.

Bu bub ubbub ubu but Kotaku said NA gets blue/red/black!
...It would go with the trend of each region getting 3 at least.

Unfortunately they were probably just referring to the image showing a third 3DS with screen open that's actually the black interior or a blue/red one.

OP Needs to be updated. People in the morning are going to check and wont know the colors and think the AC adapter isn't included in the states, among other things.

Huh? People were expecting an upgraded resolution? Things don't work that way...

Exactly! If they upped the resolution, all that would do is make games have to scale to the higher resolution, which would make them look WORSE--see: DS games on the 3DS.

And seriously, two games use the CPP. Two. People really want Ninty to add it to the hardware for that? They didn't put a 2nd analog in the 3DS to begin with, and it's too late now. All of these people who think companies should split their userbase in the middle of a hardware cycle are fucking crazy, in my opinion.

You wouldn't be saying that if you've seen a DSi XL. Unless you have no taste, I guess!

I don't want to pay Nintendo for screwing me over on options. It sounds dramatic, but really, why pay them for making such a needlessly stupid decision? All they need to do is copy the Japan color selection and boom.

I seriously don't get why they're only going with red and blue here. It looks like a decent color of blue so if it looks fine in person I'd be happy to stick with that... but what the hell? You'd think white and maybe silver/black would do better here, yet they obstinately avoid it. At the least it's worth getting one of the two here for people who want a more "mature" looking system, or even just all black.

People genuinely liked the DSi XL. I personally don't see why, but I guess Nintendo is satisfying all areas by offering a larger option. Remember that's all this is, an option.

I think most of us would like a bigger screen, games just look BETTER, BIGGER. Trust me.
the carrying part seems okay mainly because it would be in a case of some sort.

Because lots of people prefer to play at home. I do, anyhow.

Bigger screen = better experience.

Uhh... no, it'll look worse.

wait no i like this guy's answer better

If you think they are fine now a bigger screen will only be an improvement.

woooo my blue XL is gonna be so purdy

so my birthday's 9 days after this thing comes out

who's gettin me one?

i will pitch in a dollar! you only need 199 more gaffers and you've a lotta fans salsas

I have a 3DS already. If I'm going to make a frivolous luxury purchase, I might as well wait until it's available in a color that isn't for babbys.

Oh crap, I know what they are doing with the colors. They are only releasing the two colors at launch in NA because by the end of August there is only like 3 months till Black Friday where they will probably have some limited edition bundle with NSMB2 or Paper Mario or something.

crap again, i don't want to wait till freaking after Thanksgiving to play KH on this.

Mmm... I dunno about that. I recall the original DS made GBA games look dramatically better than they did on the actual GBA.

anyone know if they upgraded the god awful cameras?

ha. of course they haven't.

Anyway, I'd bet on this being £159.99 in the UK. I'd be able to get £100 for my 3DS, so that's not a bad price at all.

Mmm... I dunno about that. I recall the original DS made GBA games look dramatically better than they did on the actual GBA.

...but the DS displayed GBA games in native resolution. How did you come to that conclusion? It's gotta be the improved LCD clarity and brightness, because it most definitely was not any increase in resolution!

I'm not spending $200 on that red and blue bullshit. It looks like its made for toddlers.

Haha, I don't know about babies part,

but I really wanted to get a system I liked aesthetically this time, because the launch buy did not give me a choice with color.

Well let's not forget we essentially own the thing already. If we're going to drop funds on it again we should have it suited to our tastes.

Compromising for 1 or 2 slight upgrades is weirder if you ask me.
