[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

Not sure if he's serious, but not including AC adapter is in line with EU political trend (environmental reasons). It isn't really bad, most households have a tons of adapter, often the same multiple times because of all the handhelds, phones and what not. This really needs to stop.
It's annoying that the exclusion of the adapter doesn't result in a cheaper price though.

And to be fair, my dad bought an iPod nano, and it came without an adapter as well. It's nothing new here.

Apple portable devices always comes with their own proprietary cable in the box, so you can still charge and sync the device. You can't with the 3DS XL, but there's a chance you do have a adapter that's compatible, if you have a DSL, DSi, DSi XL or 3DS.

Honestly, I like the blue. Curious to know how it looks in person though, sometimes photos are very misleading. These ones almost look like renders...

The system design in general is a lot better than 3DS v1. I'm in the mindset of not getting one, but man, when this thing is on shelves I bet I'll get sucked in.

Only thing that could deter me is if the resolution is just too bad. 3DS is already jaggy enough in a small screen.

Very interested to see what the resolution looks like on that bigger screen. Definitely gonna drop the cash for one of these as I hate the current 3DS shape and design. Will definitely be looking out for GAF impressions first though.

I notice the OP doesn't mention that it's coming out in Europe on July 28th, though no price has been announced. Guessing we'll probably get ripped off again, £169.99 anyone? Probably still buy one though as I don't own any i-series DS at all.

It'll be £159.99. I'm sure of it.

I'm sure they'll have retailers making it clear to consumers that no power adapter is included in the box, similar to how they deal with the PS3 and HDMI cables.

I'm totally fine with the lack of power lead. I have 3 kicking around the house already. The lack of dock, however...

That means you would have bought a 3DS right before E3...Amateur mistake, even if a redesign wasn't announced.
It's funny because it's true.

Overall, I like it tho. That stupid 3D LED is gone, the buttons below the bottom screen are proper buttons now and the stylus is back to regular stylus.

The loss of the 3D LED is a nice touch. But I like my extendable stylus! Actually, I'm a bit sad the stylus isn't massive again like the DSiXL's.

I quite like it. For some reason it kind of reminds me of a Euro/JPN SNES. Hinge looks a bit flimsy for a lid that size though.

I just hope the LEDs aren't so damn bright. The pulsing LED from my sleeping 3DS has kept me awake at night, no joke.

Edit: LCD -> LED

Whyy, it's just another task when you have to extend it. Not to mention it's placement on the hardware.
Placement is awful, granted. Though I have gotten used to it now. I just think the stylus being extendable was a good idea. They could have made a bigger one for the XL.

oh my god why had i not tried that before now
Are you serious?!

The base is one piece?

It looks to me like the under-base while slimmer compared to OG is a "separated" piece compared the upper-base.

I wake up to the news of this!? AWESOME.

Anyway, this looks damn sexy. No second analogue sucks, but eh, there'll be another revision sometime.

And is just me or is the white version a bit... off? It's matte, not gloss, right? Me am sad. I love the ice white 3DS, I was just hoping for a larger version of that!

I just woke up to this. WTF at no second stick? Why would you release a crappy second stick add-on, then do this? Are we supposed to wait for another revision?

So I tried to make a screen size comparison between DSiXL and 3DSXL. DSiXL may be a bit off. I saw both 4.2 inch and 110 mm listed. 110 mm would be over 4.3 inches, though, so I went right in the middle and treated its screens as 108.3mm. Going this way, it seems like the height (and bottom screen in general) of 3DSXL screens will be slightly less than DSiXL screens, but the upper screen's added width gives it more area in general.

The bigger screen size guarantees that the viewing angle will be much better.
The basic facts of glasses-free 3D haven't changed. It's still going to be sending out different images for different eyes, and if you move your head the slight amount so that your right eye is where your left eye was (or vice-versa) it will be messed up. To get around this won't take just screen size change, but fancier screens and eye tracking.

With most of the new games not working on the old 3DS. Don't think so.
Dual Shock came mid-PS1, but only a handful of games wouldn't work with the analogless controller. MotionPlus came mid-Wii, but only a handful of games wouldn't work with the non-MotionPlus remote. In this case it already is possible to make games that have single analog and dual analog modes; building it in would just make it more convenient for the end user.

it's time for us to realise that the only reason nintendo made the CCP was for capcom to make a MH for 3DS

the peripheral is dead.

Because it was only ever an additional option that no game has yet required?

Also because the first CPP games expect additional control input via IR. Not just extra stick, but extra L and R buttons too. Compatability would have been tricky packing the extra controls in.

People need to face up to the idea that the CPP is an optional peripheral like classic controller on Wii, or the new pro controller on Wii U. Most people don't need it.

Wait, what?

No adapter?

That's... weird to say the least.

Yeah that's very very weird. When has anyone ever sold a consumer electronics item that doesn't have power in the box? It sort of makes it a pain for people to sell their current one and buy this.

I'm furious that it doesn't come with a power adaptor. I have two at home already; one for my DSi XL, and one for my regular 3DS. But this thing would replace both of those, so I'd sell them! Now I have to buy a new power adaptor just to sell it!

I might send Nintendo an angry (but courteous) e-mail, explaining that if they don't send me a power adaptor as a courtesy, I won't be buying this. It can't cost them that much money, and I've been burned out on the 3DS enough already (I bought one at launch, and although I have the ambassador games, they still don't warrant the price I paid for it, especially when it received price drops long before Nintendo reduced the RRP and distributed ambassador games).

LOL @ people expecting a second stick.

You really think Nintendo would alienate their current install base like that? Might as well made it an entirely new handheld then.
