[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

Users would still lose out on an exponentially smaller amount of content than if Nintendo went forward with a second stick revision. Far, far less fragmentation.

Xbox 360 originally had a WiFi accessory that had to be purchased separately.

HYPOTHETICAL SCENARIO:

The new model of Xbox 360 is unveiled, with support for WiFi completely removed. The add-on accessory no longer works with the new Xbox 360.

EmCeeGramr praises this move, fearing user base fragmentation if it had been built in to the system.

Wifi vs Ethernet connections don't affect gameplay. Developers don't have to make changes to their games to support both.

Kid Icarus wasn't announced at the time, it was one of Sakurai's "Hey, why not" sort of commandments.
Additionally, it's not like games have shipped since the CCP release that could have benefitted from it but not used it. The only announced coming games that would are Luigi's Mansion 2 and E.X.Troopers, and it hasn't really been confirmed one way or the other with those.

Anyway, it's funny that way back when the CPP was announced, there were people convinced that it was the precursor to an eminent redesign and that every game from now on would use it, and then there were people who said "Yeah, it's the Monster Hunter Peripheral, like 5 games will use it and then nobody else." And now it's been months since the CPP was revealed and I don't think a single game outside of the originally announced batch has been announced to support it. So, yeah, it's pretty clear which way the wind was blowing!!

How many new game announcements have there been in the months since the CPP was announced? Because I'm not aware of any new third party titles that would benefit from the CPP, but decided to ignore it.

I still believe we're going to see a revision with the second nub, probably within the next 14-16 months. The system has only been out for a little over a year, so we're just getting started.

wrong! for starters, it won't become blurry at all; to be more precise, you can't imitiate how the games will look like on it using pictures, because both will be displayed on a screen with the same ppi

Sure you can. All you have to do is scale the image up to XL sizes using the setting "nearest neighbor" to scale it with hard egdes and no resmapling.

What the... (just woke up)

I bought a 3DS two days ago :( :( :( Time to research gamestop's return policy. Serves me right for thinking "well nothing was announced at E3 so I guess its a good time to buy the system"

sigh
Don't beat yourself up, no one predicted this Nintendo direct popping up with an XL announcement.

Wireless internet is not the same as a new control method.

Looks like you can preorder it on gamestop.com right now.

Guess I'm going on a trade-in spree tomorrow for a preorder.

Just incase you were considering trading in a 3DS I checked the trade in value and it's $55 lol. Throw in the bonus 25% and it brings us to a paltry $68.75.

Nah. They rip you off on system trade-ins. Even game trade-ins, but every bit helps. I have like 8 games I don't play anymore. PS3 games, and they have a trade in 7 and get an extra $35.

what's really interesting in the list, is that it includes almost all the core titles announced for the system so far.

If it's the same PPI, that means the pixels are just larger, right? Shouldn't that be possible to imitate?
'if' it was; the PPI on the XL will be inversely propotional to the increase in the size, that is almost 52% of the normal version (1/1.90=.526)

Sure you can. All you have to do is scale the image up to XL sizes using the setting "nearest neighbor" to scale it with hard egdes and no resmapling.
technically, that too will be different (it will be more like how PSP games are shown on Vita screen, I believe)

So more like this?

:P
that's gorgeous :D

They changed the awful 3 buttons in the middle, YES. This was by far the most annoying thing. Selling my 3DS now, should get at least 100 for it

edit, wait West gets white too right? NA press pics don't show it

They will probably have an upgrade event. Trade in your 3DS and get an XL for $100

That's the only way I'll even bother upgrading. I don't want to drop another $150 on a fucking 3DS, I've already spent $250 on the original, shiiitttttt

we dont, we apparently don't like white nintendo handhelds.

It is not exact because the ratio of size difference is not an even multiple, but it is a pretty close representation.

This is what I'm expecting it to look like. Larger screen but the same resolution means worse pixels per inch. 2D sort of gets a pass on this because we're used to pixelation, but it makes 3D models look like crap.

After much consideration, I think I'm going to upgrade. The larger screen is nice, but my main issue with the old 3DS is that my hand cramps up when playing for extended periods of time. Larger is probably more comfortable.

Guess this is goodbye Circle Pad Pro, I'll learn to play Resident Evil without you.

I asked this question previously in another thread but no one answered.

I never had a DS but I'm thinking of buying this, so will be playing a lot of DS games on it, what's the quality of DS games on the 3ds?
Anyone?

Knowing GameStop, they'll probably have some special trade-in credit value for this much closer to its release than now. Probably like the week of release or the week after.

So the KH game on the 3DS XL will look worse than on a regular 3DS? One of the few main reason I'm getting the thing.

All games will "technically" look worse on the XL versus the regular 3DS unless the XL screen has better colors since it is the same pixel density as the regular 3DS but on a larger screen. It is the reason why the GB Micro looked so crisp, it took the same resolution as the regular GBA and made it smaller.

It really will depend on the game though, but usually 3D models look like junk the more you zoom in on the screen.

Wasn't that more of a "there are these 'left-handed' people? and they can not play the game easily...if only there were an analogue stick on the right..."

Just don't tell Nintendo you used it or else they'll blame anything that goes wrong with the system on it.

Just pre-ordered this:

Let's see how low the price goes down to. Tesco and Asda should have an effect on it, I hope. Just got a massive tax refund so all my money issues are gone :D, but I'd still rather not spend £179.99...

I don't like the look of it as much. Doesn't look as sleek. But in the end the battery life and the size will probably convince me to pick it up over the standard 3ds

are there any words on the camera or is it still that crappy 0.3mpx?
1mpx should be the lowest to use nowadays.
i cant imagine that a better camera would cost nintendo a lot of money

Man, this no white better be a US only thing. When's NoE doing their announcement? They always announce stuff on friday right?

Also, why are people bothering with screen comparisons? Did you learn nothing from the original XL? Games looked even better there too
