You're gonna think I'm crazy, but I have an iPad 3, and I watch Netflix on it a lot. I also have a 3DS, which I play all the time. I see the XL bridging the gap between the two, so now I can just use that one thing for both activities. Know what I'm sayin'?
We're talkin just Netflix and gaming, it's not like I'm tossing the iPad in the garbage once I have the XL!

Can't agree. I think its very much a sign of the 'DS BRAND' (3DS included) - Nintendo owns that look and it fits them well.
I can't think of a better way to have it work. Sliding out? Looks worse and by far reminds me more of phones. Plus I'd worry about the screen getting damaged.
Clam is just the best way to do it and I think in terms of what people associate with it - they associate the DS/3DS with it - its an iconic design for them.
Better just wait for the 3DS successor then.

The 3DS's lower-than-SD resolution really harms its use for some things.We're not talking Sony here, chances are reasonably good they'd eventually bring out White here. We only failed to get the white 3DS, and for all we know they'll put that out this fall or something anyway. Hell, they could even be going for a synergy effect or whatever, putting out white 3DS and 3DS XL with the Wii U launch.
The stand angle actually makes this make a lot more sense, and I can see the logic when traveling locally, IE while you're in a coffee shop or something. Couldn't imagine it on a longer trip though when you'd probably have your iPad 3 with you, unless the intent was the spare its battery instead.

I'd be willing to bet the US isn't getting a white 3DS XL because Nintendo fears people will confuse it with a controller for the Wii-U. The Wii-U just has too much confusion around it.
I really hope they're not doing it for some dumb reason like that, even though I guess people could be dumb enough.

Played Kid Icarus today and it struck me how much better a bigger system might feel. I hope ergonomically this is an improvement, may be what pushes me over the edge.

Second only to the original DS to me. Or maybe tied. Still waiting for a 3DS redesign of some point. If they could shrink down the hardware components at all, add more battery, place the stylus where it makes since, or add 802.11n, it would be huge.

Yeah. Kid Icarus honestly feels more like a console game to me, anyway, so the huge screen will really help get rid of that cramped feeling, I think.
I can't believe no one's talking about this: because the screen is so much bigger, will the 3D range of depth be increased by 90% too? (Or rather, the mathematical equivalent. I don't know how you measure that.) That'd be huge and make the screen look sooooo deep. Honestly, I just can't wait to see how awesome glasses-free 3D looks on a big screen, up close like that. I mean, that's the point of the 3DS, isn't it?

Good question. Will the 3D effect look better, worse or the same? Will the 'sweet spot' your head has to be have to be in relation to the screen to get the best picture be bigger, or about the same? Seems impossible to say right now. I'd imagine the sweet spot would be a tad bigger.
3DS also has a free cradle, but none of that matters because watching movies on either is going to be ass-tastic anyway. And if you were going for Vita advantages, you should have mentioned the 3G that the Vita has so you can stream Netflix anywhere. But there is no real good time to watch Netflix on a portable. Unless you have 3G you probably will only be streaming netflix at home anyway. If you have that it would be so much easier/better to use a computer or tv or console.
So really it doesn't matter if you have a cradle or whatever. Might as well just wait until you get home or whatever. Or if you are on the go just use your phone if you have a smart phone. Probably have better battery on that the your handheld anyway.

One can hope, but my experience has been that larger screens make it a lot harder to be in the 3D sweet spot, as the sweet spot size stays the same. I have a 7" 3D photoframe that's really hard to find the sweetspot for (thus making it rather useless as a photoframe...)

Last time I checked, you can't stream over 3g for netflix on vita for some reason (the 3g version is a complete waste of money for the most part).
And I'm debating internally if I hate the low res of 3ds (in 2d mode) or how most vita games are lower than native res and is upscaled to look like shit, more.
Screen IS large enough, high resolution OLED though that makes it one of the best portable solutions possible. And probably one of the best in bed, personally I find the Vita is about the minimum I'd take for portable streaming, iPod is too small for me.
Seriously? I just assumed. Don't have a Vita yet, just noticed it had Netflix when I was looking for Netflix on the PS3.
My phone screen is pretty nice too, but in 99% of situations I can just watch it on my TV. For me personally, my PC and Xbox are in my room. So I can just spare the minute or so to set up and watch a movie or tv show.
So really, comparing which portable is the best for streaming is like comparing which system has the best font for their health and safety warnings.

This is what I'm worried about. After growing accustomed to the 3DS screen, I turned on my old DSi the other day. Ugh. The screens looked so low-res, blocky and ugly.
This 3DS XL screen being comparable s definitely a minus.
True, i hope its not too terrible i was worried the same when i got my DSi XL - but DS games still looked very good on the bigger screens. Hope it will be the same for the 3DS XL.

Really? So if there was a cinema sized glasses-less 3D screen, you'd have to sit exactly in the middle? I don't doubt you at all, I just assumed that the "center sweet spot" grew with screen.

Seriously. I was set to buy this until I saw no 2nd stick. Now, I don't know whether to buy or just to hold off in case another reiteration does come with a 2nd stick.
If they didn't put a second stick on the XL, it's not going to be a standard feature. Just give in!

The XL isn't meant to replace the 3DS, but be an addition to the 3DS line, being sold alongside the original system. So there will be no price drops just because of the XL release.
