The 2012 EVO World Finals will host a record number of competitors and attendees hailing from over 40 countries, as thousands assemble to compete for championships across today’s hottest fighting games.

Thanks to generous support for the community from our sponsors, we’re pleased to announce record prizes, including $23,000 for Mortal Kombat, $15,000 for Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, and more!

“With Capcom celebrating its 25th Anniversary of Street Fighter this year, we thought it fitting that Evo’s Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 competitors should play for $25,000,” said Christian Svensson, Senior Vice President at Capcom. ”Capcom wouldn’t be where it is today without the support of our hardcore fans, and this is just the first of many exciting opportunities to help celebrate this milestone for the Street Fighter franchise.”

Here are the prize pools for all of the Evo 2012 tournaments. All these tournaments will pay out to the top 8 finishers.

  • $25,000 Super Street Fighter IV, Arcade Edition 2012
  • $23,000 Mortal Kombat 9
  • $15,000 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
  • $15,000 for Sega’s Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown event (BYOC event)
  • $11,000 King of Fighters XIII
  • $9,000 Street Fighter X Tekken
  • $5,000 Soul Calibur V

Evo 2012 will be held July 6 – 8 at the Las Vegas Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino. The event is open to the public on July 6th and 7th. You can also tune in online at http://twitch.tv

It's a cool bit of news I thought it deserved it's own thread. It's good to see the devs throwing a lot of support behind the communities playing their games.

Spooky interview where he talks about some potential EVO production related stuff:

10 more days til I get on that plane so I can get bodied on KOF.

HUZZA!

I'm kind of surprised to see that UMVC3's prize is so much lower than SFIV's. I thought Marvel had caught up or even surpassed SFIV in popularity by now. It sure seems like people get more excited for Marvel at tournaments.

Amazing how much more money AE has than SFXT. They almost don't want to support it anymore.
I actually forgot the game was at EVO until you posted this despite reading and then posting the article here. My brain just skipped straight to SCV.

Edit: It even shows in my thread title. Damn. My subconscious must really hate SFxT.

So, wait.

Did Capcom throw up the 25k, or does that not include entrance fees yet, or did they see what the entrance fee was and threw in enough to make it 25k overall?

Sven's PR speak is ambiguous, but the rest of the press release suggests those are total prize pools. So Capcom still chipped in maybe $8-9k.

MK9 seriously? Is Netherealm the reason that game has such a big pot or wtf?

LOL @ SFxT. That game is dead. Just bury it. Hell take that 9K and just give it to KoF13.

I have work Monday, but I'll show up fuck late if need be. With Spooby on the scene I'm sure he can wrap it up before midnight, but then again I don't remember when EVO wrapped up last year under his watch.

Definitely going to monster hard though.

The game of choice for me this year will be UMvC3. I smell some infinites and fucked up glitches being saved JUST for this tournament.

There's apparently a bunch of dante stuff from both ends of the pond, US/JP, that have tech ready to go for evo. Should be interesting.

We already have so many players teasing tech they're keeping under wraps for EVO.

Also SFxTK isn't dead until they give that car away.

WB only said a $20,000 bonus for WB, so that means the rest is made up of entrants (300).
I'm guessing the same holds true for everything else, except Street Fighter.

But I can't imagine 450 teams for Street Fighter X Tekken.

They were smart enough to realise they couldn't just will the game into being a tournament game, they had to roll up their sleeves and make it work. Glad it paid off.

Atlus seems to be doing the same with KOF, which pleases me to no end. Hopefully they keep that going with Persona as well,

Atlus have godlike community relations, so it's hardly surprising to see them knowing how to handle a fighting game despite their usual wheelhouse of releases. The "P4A 4 EVO 2013" train starts here!

Also I dream of an EVO dominated by Hsien-Ko tech.
