DW7 is pretty excellent, but I'd also highly recommend Warriors Orochi 3 as well. DW7 should be cheaper, though, and has a lot of great content in it.

Haha, yeah, the gameplay mechanics of DW7 sound really cool! On P1P topic, fun episode, good banter, but unless I'm crazy I kept hearing a subwoofer or some low frequency buzzing. really weird.

Which chapter is that? I pretty much agree with the sentiment, though. The game never really does anything interesting with the gravity mechanics.

Also, I'm surprised that Phil likes Lollipop Chainsaw so much already. You start with so few combat moves that it feels extremely limited. It's not until you buy more that the game starts to feel competent. That first boss is indicative of a typical No More Heroes boss, so Phil will probably like that, too.

I am experiencing Pocket Planes fatigue much faster than I did with Tiny Tower. Upgrading anything or buying new planes costs a crazy amount of coins or bux so I'm just shuttling people and things around the couple airports I have, but not making a lot by doing it. Game's real tedious.

I started messing around with Pocket Planes, but unless I'm missing something it seems like you need to tend to it a lot more than Tiny Tower. One of the things I liked about TT was that you could stock your floors and then leave 'em for hours at a time. When you come back, you've earned a bunch of money/made a lot of progress.

With PP, it seems like you need to constantly be checking in to load up planes and send them on their way. Is this right? Because that's pretty darn tedious to me.

Even from early in the game, I could tell that the further you got in, the deeper the combat would get. I dig that.

Agreed, I like Pocket Planes but I already stopped playing it 2 days ago. Compare to Tiny Tower, it lasted me for half a year till I got everything. Pocket Planes just doesn't suit my style since I have other things to do.
 
Lollipop Chainsaw is awesome. Keep upgrading the moves and it gets better and better. Fantastic music too, why didn't Phil mention that aspect of it? So many cool licensed music tracks in it.

Yeah, I thought maybe I was missing something but no. If you aren't sending planes out every few minutes early on you make nothing and can't progress. I just can't give a game that kind of attention for an extended period especially when the reward for a day of constantly sending planes out is so low.

I don't mind a freemium game that gives me a nice base and makes me think I'm progressing and maybe asks for a little money too to speed things up. Personally I don't mind paying 99 cents for a game I'm enjoying if it means cutting time to progress using things like coin doublers, triplers, etc. But in PP, .99 doesn't get you a whole lot - and I feel like even $5 wouldn't get me much of anywhere in the grand scheme. :|

Also I'm with McShea on the realistic shooter discussion, despite that embarassing conversation. When you mow down through 1000+ enemies in the course of your campaign it doesn't really matter if there's a hardcore mode that replaces regenerating health or something. When you rename the enemy team from Taliban to "Opposing Force" because you're too scared of negative PR, then you're not making an authentic shooter. You're making popcorn, marketing-driven entertainment, pretending it's anything else is ridiculous and you deserve to get called out.

There's nothing wrong with making a "Fuck yeah, America is awesome and I'm a badass" game or movie, just don't pretend it's something it's not.

I mostly agree. Though it's worth noting that Goodrich pointed out multiple times during that conversation that he was making an entertainment product.

Tom had point, but it was lost under his desire to be overly confrontational. Had he brought up some of the points you just have - especially the fact that you're a single soldier mowing down hundreds of enemy soldiers (just like every MoH game before this one) - then he would have represented himself and his overall point much better in that video.
 
Kingdom Hearts 3D isn't a remake, its a new game. Not that anyone can tell the difference in the KH series, I'm sure this one takes place in Mickey's head as he dreams about KH 1 and 2 but its messed up due to some bad cheese before bed or some other bullshit

Yeah, I was exaggerating for effect, but I did get the impression that you guys were a bit restless during the game discussion. It was only the Polygon discussion that prompted you to settle down.
 
So you guys are fans of Is this a Zombie, the zombie harem anime? You all didn't strike me as the type considering it stars a zombie boy who cross dresses as a magical girl but whatever floats your boat :P

I finally got around to beating the first episode of Walking Dead (right on time apparently) and listened to the P1Spoilercast for it. I am completely surprised how EXACTLY THE SAME I played and thought of the episode as Stewy did, even right down to
not wanting to give the gun to the woman because it would have been a waste of a bullet.
It makes me feel like maybe I am more alike Stewy than I previously thought and maybe I should pick up some racing games (lol).

Oh, and "its a wonderful world" made me bust a gut. Such good timing.
 
Good episode, though you all sounded tired or something. I enjoyed the part where you talk about Polygon. I also don't like half of their staff; particularly Arthur Gies. Guy's a pretentious douche.

Gotta say that was a really good episode this week, some nice well rounded gaming talk, just the right length and some amazingly funny moments. Also maybe one of the best outros in a long time.

Shame you didn't get to talk more about Order Up!! on the eShop Stewy, I downloaded the demo a few weeks back, proceeded to not play said demo and then just buy the game when it came to the store. Really enjoying it thus far which really surprised me. Started playing it and looked up 2 hours later and only stopped when my 3DS starting going flat. Such a fun little game, really glad Ignition decided to go the download route for that, feels just right at 10 bucks.

I don't have a strong opinion on Polygon other than The Besties is okay but I wouldn't mind your standard fair gaming podcast with host Phil "why aren't I podcasting with Nick Suttner" Kollar.

That said, they do way too much back patting on twitter. Every article they post is the best article they've ever done. Every review is Arthur's best layout (oh hey he tinted a screenshot pink and put text over it GAME JOURNALISM GAMECHANGER!!) The whole thing wears thin after awhile but its my fault for following them I suppose

Awesome, be good to let more people know how good it is so more people can play it. I almost passed it over because from the outside it does look like some crappy shovelware cooking mama mini game ripoff, when it turns out to be a really great cooking mama mini game ripoff
 
Pocket Planes -- addicting but completely unfulfilling. I gave it a go, but compulsively checking my phone every 5 minutes or so for what is essentially mindless gameplay does not appeal to me, even though it is addicting as hell. After expanding to Tokyo, Harbin, and a few cities in Mongolia and China, I deleted it. Playing it gave me a really gross feeling, probably one similar to the mentality of those old ladies at the penny slots. Gamedev story felt the same way, although to a lesser extent. So yeah, I am with CJ.
 
I listen to every podcast.

I think we all got Walking Dead on PS3 for the discount. So we'll be playing come Friday.

I don't pipe up much in this thread (or P1P forums) but wanted to chime in to say that this is still my fave podcast after all these years, and no slowing down. I was a little skeptical when you originally brought mik on as 4th but he's goddamn hilarious so all is well-

keep up the good work, would love to hear you guys ruminate a bit more on the "behind the scenes" of the good old days which you all used to discuss a bit more frequently (working at the mags back in the day, I am sure you saw lots of craziness that never really gets talked about). Surely there's a bit of controversy to discuss between EGM, GamePro, Game Player's Guide, VG&CE, etc
