The entire expansion is tinted by red.

Actually I went over the Planechase planes and they all look pretty interesting.

Think about how awesome a pirate set could be. For me it would be chaos vs law and order. I'd make the Red/Blue all pirates and Black/White ninj- er lawful states with Green fuck all to do because HAHA its in the water you silly green. And then historically pirates were really nothing but hired thugs by governments so you could flavor-fully have interactions between pirates and navy.

You know what, we just need a One Piece TCG. I'll play it no matter how bad it is, Spellfire bad, Redeemption bad, Ani-Mayhem bad just put Chopper and Sanji on a card for me!

I think the dominant blue race for Ravnica the first time around was Vedalken, but they might throw in Merfolk as well. They recently decided to start letting Merfolk have legs I think.

Can't be worse than Megaman TCG.

I would love for Wizards to reprint Court Hussar. Fucking adore that card.

Fuck, just reprint all of Ravnica block.

Merfolk would also fit in simic.

They like attaching all kinds of things to people.

Boo, I was thinking of Merfolk just infesting the Aqueducts and the Wojeks ended up becoming glorified exterminators.

There are all sorts of plants underwater :P

Reefs, baby. Green gets reefs.

I could totally see that in a Pirate expansion. Epic naval battles with Ship artifacts for your creatures and the green algae is just sitting on the bottom mucking about.

Seriously, new artifact type, SHIP. and you Carry your lil pirate dudes and raid, huhuhu Evil Cackle.

Maybe if Ambassador Laquatus somehow lived and ended up on Ravnica. Then again, he'd have to attach some legs on himself or he'd be swimming around in the sewers full of pee. Which is what he deserved.

New land type: Shipwreck
Return of Banding

Guys let's just do this

There's no wild, all of Ravnica is a huge city.

There's no reason merfolk couldn't exist on Ravnica, maybe the original block just didn't get into them. It'd be strange if they limited creature types to only those they explored in Ravnica block.

What I'm interested in is if the guild mechanics are making a comeback, and if we're getting new mechanics on top of them. It may be a bit messy, but also really cool, especially if new guild mechanics evoked the old guild mechanics in both flavor and function.

I can see most of the mechanics return, but I very much doubt Dredge will be back. As awesome as stuff like Darkblast and Grave-Shell Scarab are, it's one of those mechanics that are too out there.

It'd be very weird to do a mix of old and new mechanics IMO. And they won't bring them all back so I hope we're getting ten new mechanics.

That's if they're returning to the discrete 4-3-3 Guild model, which I was skeptical of at first, but is looking more and more likely

Do they have to be all new? Convoke was fucking awesome. Chord of Calling into Mystic Snake AWWWW YEAHHH

I guess it would just be weird to exhibit say...six new mechanics while bringing back, I dunno, Convoke, Replicate, Graft and Bloodthirst or whatever.

Oh, and Haunt is confirmed to be out, it was mentioned in passing a few months back that they consider it a failure.

A better Lord of Atlantis.

My favorite tribe in Blue, so I'm happy. All of these Merfolk running around strongly hinting at Kiora in RTR? Merfolk as new tribe for the UG guild? Hmmmm.
Just a new take on Lord of Atlantis, as they are exactly the same. Or better as in legal for Standard?
I have a Mono Blue Merfolk Vintage deck that this would be a good addition to. Much like Merrow Reejerey it would have been nice if it did something different.

Not the same! It affects only your fishies!

I really hope they return to some underused mechanics and rework some of the messier or overused ones in RTR.

Like Forecast was interesting but it really didn't do anything. There's quite a bit of design space for it.

Hellbent was meh, it felt like threshold. R/B should have something a bit cooler.

I looourrrrrrve Haunt but it mechanically it was messy and made for some awkward play, I can't see Haunt coming back at all.

Flavorfully Graft can't really exist cause Viggy and the Bunch are gone, though I wouldn't mind at all if they just slapped Poliferate on Simic and called it a day. I love that mechanic and I always want more.

Bloodthirst was already done again in M12, would be too soon to come back to that. Then again, RTR design probably happened around when M12 was released so maybe we'll see that too.

Dredge, well... I really doubt WoTC wants to make any more dredge cards that already exist. Maybe if they redid the mechanic somehow that wasn't dredge, but was like dredge, then we'd see something.

Replicate was cool and again still more design space, but mechanically it was kinda ho hum.

Transmute was cool, but ever find it strange that Dimir was schizophrenic? Like it had this Mill Theme that really didn't play well with its Guild's mechanic.

Convoke was pretty cool, very flavorful and I wouldn't mind seeing it return at all.

Radiance honestly while flavorful felt like Hellbent in meh. Unless they do something really cool with it, I would hope Boros got something cooler than that.

So yeah, I'm with you, I'd like to see a mix of old and new mechanics. I've got faith in WoTC though because the past 3 sets have been knockouts in terms of Flavor/Mechanic for a set, I think they'll do Ravnica justice.

But yeah, if anything I'd rather see 10 new mechanics. The old 10 felt like Old Ravnica, before the Guildpact broke. Now they have to come up with something in a new world.

I mean if you look at Scars block as a template, the only returning mechanic was Imprint. Affinity was retooled to metal craft. With that in mind, I think they'll go with 10 new mechanics, possibly with a few that are "fixed" versions of previous ones.

It's possible they might shake up all the guild lore and design new abilities to reflect their new visages.

Would be a huge undertaking though, flavorwise the original guilds were pretty fleshed out, although I must admit the abilities didn't always accurately reflect the guild (except Selesnya and Simic). Since they've improved in matching mechanics to lore, maybe they'll be able to come up with new stuff.

I'd say bring back Convoke, Forecast, Transmute, and possibly Bloodthirst if they don't want it to be a non-Guild ability. Possibly Replicate if they have good ideas for it. They can do better than Hellbent and Radiance for those guilds, and Dredge would only work if they approach it very carefully. I'm cool with stuff like Nightmare Void and Moldervine Cloak but they've taken it way too far in the past and I'd hate for them to do it again.

I would put money on Battle Cry as Boros' mechanic, and Delve is almost certainly the mechanic for the Golgari or Dimir.

Bloodthirst, Convoke, Replicate, Hellbent and Graft could all conceivably return. The others will almost certainly be replaced.

I won't lie, I want Dredge back, largely because I am a whore for B/G decks and it's been rough going since I got back in the game. I'd be surprised to see it, though.

Convoke is the only one that would leave me disappointed if it's absent. Well designed, great flavor, fun to play. Easily the standout mechanic of the block imho.

This new card is much better, as he doesn't help out your opponent's merfolk like Lord of Atlantis does.

My excitement basically comes from the hope that merfolk will be a decent tribe in standard again.

I wouldn't mind if they went back and did an all-star of old mechanics from throughout Magic's history for each of the guilds. Sort of like what they did with Planechase 2012 (each of the new decks being centered around an older mechanic).

Dredge would break Standard in half being that Innistrad was the previous block. Imagine how degenerate and awful things would be if you could reliably put cards into your yard.

I mean faithless looting in standard with Dredge? Yeah I just threw up in my mouth.

lol Heeeeeey. >:|

I used to run a merfolk deck back in the days of Eldrazi, and that was shortly after I just got back into the game. I guess I have some delusions that the tribe was good in standard because of that...heh. Did great casually, never really took it to FNM or tournaments.

Plane analyzation:

aretopolis.jpg

Looks like some sort of Academy plane. I wonder if there are libraries of alexandria all over the place or something? The people walking down the stairs kind of look military, though.

astral-arena.jpg

Simple. It's a plane where duels happen.

bloodhill-bastion.jpg

Farthest plane in the Multiverse from Dominaria - they know everything and expect nothing. I would love to go to this plane in the future.

edge-of-malacol.jpg

Belenon also appears in this card below:
windriddle-palaces.jpg

Curious. Everything on the plane seems biogenetically engineered, if you look at the towers. I'm getting a vibe that says green is subtly infused with all the colors. Could be an awesome plane to go to, especially if there are more "Edges" to the world, having the concept that the entire world IS flat, and there are edges to be wary of.

grove-of-the-dreampods.jpg

Creature plane. Nuff said. SLIVERS?

kharasha-foothills.jpg

CHINESE WAR PLANE!

mount-keralia.jpg

Not much to go on here, but maybe the whole plane is Mountainous? Would be interesting. I'd also love to see a "modern" day set, not modern in technology mind you, but that people on the plane have barely any magic, and use a mix of technology and magic to make their lives easier. Some people from other worlds on our own world would say that Electricity is magic.

onakke-catacomb.jpg

MicroProse game setting! Five wizards from Five Castles vy for control of the plane, each one representing a color of magic. A planeswalker representing all five, Arzakon, wanted the plane for himself. You stop him in the game. But this plane lives on, I see.

talon-gates.jpg

Considering the nature of the card, wtf? Time shenanigans are still happening on Dominaria? that's not good.

trail-of-the-mage-rings.jpg

I want to go here. This plane looks fucking awesome. Giant steampunk circles built into the land, for what purpose?

truga-jungle.jpg

Take note, the jungle is in the middle of a crevasse.

stairs-to-infinity.jpg

Salvidor Dali Plane. LOL

Belenon and Vryn...I want to go there

Sorry about the shot at merfolk. :( They've never been a solid tribe in the spans of time I've played the game, I figured a light troll would spur y'all to sate my curiosity. Thanks guys ;)

Now I'm starting to wish Talrand shot out Merfolk tokens rather than Drake tokens...haha.

Xenograft takes care of that.

Also, I've come to a realization that makes me okay with Arbor Elf getting reprinted over Llanowar Elf. Arbor Elf works with any Shockland that produces G.

(And why BoP was likely moved to Ravnica to help out Block Constructed.)

Fuck, this core set is more interesting than a lot of expansion sets.

Fuck yeah Mutilate confirmed in M13:

I still have my old playset from torment. I can finally use it for standard again.

I just checked gatherer's database. I was about to say, it's a reprint too until the Merfolks you control part was in there. Better Lord of Atlantis indeed.

Yeah. Some new Ravnican art for BoP would be great too.

Also, what does everyone think of this crazy guy?

hc9dpcazqo_en.jpg

I think it could see some serious play.
I can definitely see Void Stalker being played a lot. Hey Delver! Time for you and me to go back to our libraries. Shuffle time. If you flicker it. LOL, the shenanigans!

It's blue non-bounce removal done right. Yeah he'll be played at that CMC as well. I can't wait to get my playset.
