bringing cosmic marvel into the loop would be an excellent decision if they want to show the scope of their universe.

hopefully we dont get any reality breakers like mad jim jaspers or the other braddock whos name i cant remember. dont need any of that.

god, i fucking hope not. one is fucking enough.

jaspers and braddock were really kind of off in UK-marvel and largely ignored by the rest of continuity. Don't expect any references in the mainline marvel film properties.

Well, as I've said before: I'm not familiar with what's happening in the last decade of comics, so if they've suddenly become A-tier I didn't know.

They did about 6 years ago.

Marvel said "you know what? We haven't been doing much with cosmic stuff, let's shake things up." They released Annihilation, a miniseries where they changed the status quo of the cosmic stuff, did all kinds of crazy shit and gave a FUCKING MAJOR UPGRADE to Nova, and set off several years of 100 percent badass epic cosmic shenanigans. The Guardians of the Galaxy grew out of Annihilation: Conquest, the sequel event, and basically there were two cosmic titles (Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy) running concurrently and weaving in and out of the major cosmic events like War of Kings and the Thanos Imperative.

I'm going to post this comic page taking place after the end of Annihilation so you can see the scale of what was going on, but if you actually plan to read the series, don't read the text bubbles.

Yeah, FUCK YOU Tony!

A lot of different reputable sites reporting in saying this is going to happen, sounds like it's legit.

I don't know anything about the GoTG, but it sounds neato enough for me--I just pray that Marvel Studios doesn't scower the depths of TV Sitcoms to find a director for this movie.

Knowing them, however, they'll probably outdo themselves and hire a YouTube director.

Yup, Justice League movie pretty much has to happen now.

Do you think they'll have the time to do it though? 2014 isn't that far away and the next movie from DC after Superman, is probably going to be Lobo. Then a Batman reboot after that.

i will be quite interested to see how they plan on doing that to be honest.

If they want it out before Avengers 2 they could just have a Justice League movie where they team is already established. After that they could do spin-offs that focus on specific characters.

Yup, Justice League movie pretty much has to happen now.

It won't- at least not anytime soon. DC screwed themselves for a decade by

1.) royally shitting the bed with green lantern

and

2.) not tying the latest bat film into a larger DC universe.

I'm sure there are furious rewrites going on as we speak with man of steel to try to make it happen, but DC/WB was totally blindsided by the success of avengers. it took marvel at least 4 years worth of films to pull their vision together and they got REALLY lucky with Iron Man taking off the way it did.

DC is in much worse position since Batman has to be rebooted, Superman is in the midst of a reboot, Wonder woman, aqua man, and flash have always been C-list and difficult to write properties around and Green Lantern just mega bombed.
If I were DC I'd try for a Batman/Superman "world's finest" and leave it there.

The Nolan Batman films exist in a universe that tries to be more serious. That's what it does and does well and there's no way tying it into an eventual JLA movie would work without shitting on the series altogether. Gotta start over... still would like for Batman to be its own thing forever though.

Would love to see this Guardians movie be written as a Nova story. No preference here, just expecting awesomeness.

No idea who these characters were as of 10 minutes ago, but I'm game. I'll check out the 2008 comic run they did on them. Man, it seems like there's a lot of rumored/actually happening Marvel movies in the work: Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Cage and Fist, Avengers 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, Hulk TV Show - whatever pans out from these, I'm glad/worried to see Marvel is keeping the ball rolling.

Seriously, Marvel Cosmic is on a whole other level of shit and I love how they make references to the differences. Annihilators isn't quite as good as the Annihilation/Conquest/GoG/Thanos Imperative stuff but it's pure awesome to see that team in action and how they treat the Avengers.

I'd rather DC just start with Justice League and work their way backwards. I don't see why everyone is so dead set on them copying exactly what Marvel did.

Also, it's looking like Guardians over Panther. Great for the Guardians. They're a swell bunch. However, still gonna cry myself to sleep tonight.

So where does Ant-Man fall into this? I thought Edgar Wright was hinting at it very heavily on his twitter page that it was his next project and i'm sure Marvel wants Hank Pym and Jan in Avengers 2. I assumed that would be the unannounced 2014 project.

None of the announced dates were for Ant-Man. Feige said that depending on Wright's schedule, it could be a third movie for 2014.

If current schedules hold, this actually makes 3 Marvel movies for 2014. Though the third probably won't take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I missed the Marvel Press release when they said they were sticking with only the last few years of their history.

So exactly. Not obvious at all. Just as we said.
Oh come on. Every interview, every movie, even how they position their animation and 2nd tier ventures have built off recent or ultimate marvel storylines. What makes you think they won't do the same with the avengers 2, especially after GoG was one of the first and most consistent rumours after avengers was released.

If you really think they were going to use Thanos and ignore all the recent stories Thanos has been in, you're a fool. I'm sorry.

with the rumors of armor wars being used, in im3, i think they could be just pulling from all stories. i would rather see a version of infinity war before annihilation anyway seeing as how there are two many pieces missing.

does marvel have the fantastic 4 licensing back from fox yet?

Armor wars with Iron Patriot. Another recent character.

Fox is rebooting FF ala the amazing spiderman

I hope they do those little debriefing scenes like in the comics
Those were hilarious, like when Rocket would talk shit about Cosmo.

Who do you think Marvel will tap as the team members. Star Lord and Rocket are probably locks and Nova will be in (Will be interesting to see if it's Rider or Alexander), but I can see them dropping some of the current line-up. This could be a good opportunity to introduce Ms Marvel and S.W.O.R.D.

For the love of God, don't mess up Nova.

And DON'T include Rocket Raccoon, there's just some things you CANNOT do in a live action movie.

Rocket is fine and he'll be great. Nova absolutely needs to be Richard Rider. It doesn't work any other way.

I hope we stay away from the Loeb Sam Alexander bullshit but that seems unlikely. There are rumors that there will be a new Loeb/McGuinness Nova ongoing announced at Comicon.

The whole movie is pointless if Rocket Raccoon isn't in. He's such a major focal point of how Marvel advertises the Guardians of the Galaxy.

will be difficult to pull off, but I hope it's done in a way that the general audience laugh and love the absurdity of Rocket Raccoon.

They did the Hulk justice with the Avengers movie, they can pull it off. With Groot.

I'll add Drax as a lock seeing how his origin tie in with Thanos.

The rumour is they are adapting Thanos Imperative. This means the members are probably going to be:

Peter Quill/Star Lord
Rocket Raccoon
Groot
Drax
Gamora
Mantis
Cosmo

And Nova and Wendell Vaughn/Quasar will obviously be there too even though they aren't technically Guardians.

That's 9 characters + Thanos to deal with in one movie. Probably enough.

I'm not really sure who they would cut if they had to. I guess Gamora, Cosmo, and Mantis are the most non-essential to the story but they aren't going to cut out the women so fast and cosmo is the loveablest dog you ever done met.

This story also lets them fight the alternate universe evil Avengers which should be fun. The cosmic cube/tesseract is utilized as well so it will tie in nicely with what has come in the MCU so far.

Hey woah.

If they use Iron Patriot they better have Norman Osborn in there.

But they can't, am I right?

They are using the Iron Patriot design for War Machine. Iron Patriot/Norman Osborn is not actually in the film. War Machine's armour is just gonna like like that.

I thought it was a repaint of the war machine unit. Iron patriot shouldn't be able to appear.

Iron Patriot is a iron man/avenger property, not spider-man. It can't be Norman Osborn but they can use the design ad market him as such

That's a lot of characters to introduce in one movie, and i can see them replacing some with other characters that have more of an upside in the future.

I think Thanos imperative is more the story for Avegers 2 than GoG. marvel is intent on making as many franchises popular without having to try to get Spidey/X-men back as evidenced by how aggressive they have been with trying to get live action shows on television and introducing new concepts and characters on the animated shows so i doubt GoG will be a one and done just to set up Avengers 2.

I can't see marvel having a team based movie without some plan to spin them off i the future if they are popular enough and i doubt Groot, Gamora, Mantis and Cosmo can do that.

If I had to guess

Nova(Richard Rider because i'm pretty sure he is coming back along with Star Lord soon in the comics)
Star Lord
Rocket raccoon
Quasar
Drax
Ms Marvel and Sword
Ronan(if they can. Just to open up the other side of cosmic marvel. He might be under Fox though.)

Edit: Well nevermind. According to Bendis Avengers assemble the new GoG team is

Star Lord
Rocket Raccon
Drax
Gamora
Bug

I don't know any of these characters, so I'd prefer this to basically be one shot Thanos movie, and the movie ends with Guardians lost/killed with just Nova surviving to warn earth about Thanos.

Feige has name dropped Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Raccoon, and Groot in the past, so I think at least those five are a safe bet.

You don't have to know them. You will learn about them through this movie.

Some of you guys are such idiots when it comes to this stuff. I say as long as it's well done the audiences will watch it, especially after the Avengers. I mean most people don't even know Thor and that worked out just fine.

I think Rocket Raccoon is a given. He is such an iconic character for the Guardians these days. I hope we also get Cosmo.

Agreed. Honestly, it's like now that the Avengers are a success, everyone forgot that 4 years ago, most folk neither knew, nor gave a flying fuck, who "The Avengers" were. Just because it's an adaptation doesn't mean everyone needs to be immediately familiar with the characters, and it certainly doesn't mean the movie should end with them all dead.
