Yeah I saw one of the binders posted (had a ninjago picture on it) here but what kind of sleeves are used? large ones or ones with separate pockets?
 
So, my final day of vacation, I decided to make some more MOC stuff for the modular buildings.


A fountain, using nearly every clear piece I got at Pick-A-Brick while on vacation.


Modular garden walkways. Easily put between buildings, but also easily combined to make larger park areas.


Using the flowers and plant pieces I got at Pick-A-Brick











Integrated with all the other modular buildings I own. The modular garden walkways are easy to put together, and use very few bricks. Also easy to keep multiplying for making larger areas. Thinking of making some additions using blue baseplates for lake areas for a scaleable city area.


SIDE NOTE: I just received my prize from the Brickset contest. I have four passes for Legoland Discovery Center in the Chicago area, but I live in CT so I will not be using them.

Who wants 'em? Send me a PM. The first responses get them, and I will mail them out next week.

Ring binder with sleeves for normal instructions. Hanging files for 10xxx sets

For binders I use foolscap size because A4 is sometimes a bit tight. For smaller instructions like the star wars planets or poybags, I have a few photo sleeves which have 4 or 6 pockets per page so they take up less space
 
I'm getting better at this LEGO building stuff. I got the creator Blue Roadster and managed to build that 152 piece car in about an hour.
 
I was a bit surprised to see this at the local toy shop. First I thought there was some kind of retro re-release, but it's the vintage stuff. Not for sale, obviously.

Not much interesting otherwise, I went to two shops and none had any LotR sets yet. The old Swedish toy shop distribution problem - they bring in loads of stuff which doesn't sell and they never mark anything down, so unless what you want happens to be in that initial load... not related, but it's kind of hilarious to see a Toy Story 3 display with only the "other house" toys like the hedgehog. Yeah right, that will sell, who wants Woody anyway?

They had a big stack of Fire Brigades but no other collectible sets worth mentioning. And at the equivalent of 230 dollars... yeah, no.

It's a great build. I needed to get a stability patch kit from Lego for mine, though. I don't know if the newer ones have been corrected, so you might want to call and find out.

Even with that, it is an awesome build.

Newer ones have the fix already. I think there is a name change too - shuttle adventure (10213) became shuttle expedition (10231)
 
So I know I want to get the Super Man/Wonder Woman set, but I don't know which LoTR set I wanna fork over for yet. I want Aragorn, but I also want Frodo and Gandalf. Hmmmm.

I really want a Sauron minifig.
 
Little tip on the Blue Roadster. Don't bother with the little white tabs on the car doors. It makes them impossible to open without the blue square coming off and they are only there to give the window something to rest on when snapping it in place. But the window does just fine without them, plus it gives your minifigs a little more leg room to get in the car.

Right now it looks like some kind of Terminator frog, or puppy perhaps. Really fun to build, crazy how it all fits together. Model is very big too. Can't wait to see it moving.
 
Picked up the Mines of Moria set tonight. Got the first three bags done. Interesting and decent build so far. Nothing amazing, but not bad either. The figures are great, but the set is sticker heaven. Like, insane. That is not a compliment. But the set looks so bare and lame without putting the stickers on so I applied them. Also, the interactive elements of the set do not work quite as well as intended, like the top of Balin's Tomb getting knocked off.

I will say that it comes with quite a few odd bricks. Things I have never seen before but are very cool, especially some unique SNOT pieces.

Just skip to the last page for the breakdown of bricks. Some neat and unique pieces that I cant wait to see used in other sets for their uniqueness.

BONUS FOR THE SET: It comes with the Cave Troll mega figure, but also Boromir. I foresee lots of jokes to come with the Boromir mini figs. After all...one does not simply walk into other Lego themes.
 
I need to buy a present for my son's friend (she's almost 5 years old) and I'm thinking about introducing her to the wonderful world of LEGO :) ... through a Friends set. Those of you who have purchased them, what's the most fun build of all?

I gave our nabours kid a LEGO set for her fifth birthday,
I was too optimistic regarding her LEGO skills, she had a really tough time building it.
so my advice would be to make sure to get her something she can handle.
ie no small parts nothing too complicated.
I think one of the bigger boxes with lots of "plain" bricks and only a few specials would be a good starting point, I wish I had gotten that.

Yeap. I bought my 4 and 6 year old daughters a bunch of those. They're loving them.

the 4 year old is a bit too young for it still, but the 6 year old builds everything as it should be.

Girls also loooooooooove the new Lego Friends series. Like Barbie fashionistas, but with Legos.

Start small.

As FlixFantatier says above, it takes kids a while to get used to the mechanics of Lego.

I got my (five year old) daughter a few of the very small Friends sets (Olivia's Lab, Stephanie's ATV etc.) and it took her a while to get a good understanding how the instructions & pictures correlated to the actual bricks. I saw my nephews go through a similar learning curve.

You could always do the "big brick dump" but the kids in my family have always enjoyed a bin of bricks far more after they've built a few real sets.

My daughter turns six next week. Oh the Lego she will get....

I’m a sucker for the now defunct midi-scale line and this 22 inch version of the Executor, Darth Vader’s personal Flagship, would make a great addition to that series. Pellaeon‘s Dreadnaught Class Super Star Destroyer is a bit larger than the previous official Midi models and tiny compared to LEGO’s UCS version, but still manages to pack in the details and balance them well in this difficult scale. Any day I get to quote the Ackbar is a good day indeed.

That's the first LotR set I got, but still have yet to assemble. If you've taken a shine to the LotR line, I definitely recommend the Battle of Helm's Deep set. I'm almost done building it. In contrast to the MoM set, there are very few stickers. Price is kinda steep, but I don't regret buying it. It's a fun build, and I'm amazed at all the details from the film they were able to cram in. Now I'm anxious to get the Uruk-hai Army set to expand it!
 
I was working in London today, and walked past the houses of parliament on the way to the office. I spent a couple of minutes taking photos and looking at the tower, thinking 'hmm, does the clock face stick out by about a plate?' and other little visual measurements,bjust to check if I want to make any more alterations to my big Ben

WOW. I really really REALLY want that Town Hall set so badly. If only my hubby work some more hours lmao. That's a gorgeous way of going with the garden inbetween. Love the flowers and the lights. :D

Someone also posted a french mansion set someone's doing for the contest that has such gorgeous interior that gave me tons of ideas to absorb from too. Its just awesome and the exterior was fantastic too. No wonder why my house looks "blocky" its BORING lmao.

But yeah if I had more sets and more pieces (and of course get more from my hubby's sets if he so allows), I'd go nuts lol.

Anyway, so hubby bought the blue roadster set, and RobbieNick is right, the white tabs on the car doors were pretty flimsy. I had it snap off too. Its a lovely car though. :D He also bought me Stephanie's Convertible which is pretty awesome too. With a few other small sets, I was able to finish my house and fix the roof much more.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, there are two coupons for BN online right now. 15% off for non members, or 20% off for members. They expire on Monday or Tuesday. Combine that 20% one with a membership and you get close to 30% off a set at the stores. That is how I snagged Moria last night. Might grab Helm's Deep this weekend as well, but may get a smaller set instead.

Just search around online for the coupon and print it to take in store, or they have ones for the website as well. Also remember that BN has the cheapest regular price on Weathertop. $50. Add coupons to that to get a very good deal over nearly everywhere else.
 
My local Target had some LEGO sets slapped with clearance stickers. I snagged a Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship set for $42, but that's it. The rest were Pirates of the Carribean sets.

I also snagged one of the new Monster Fighters sets, the Hearse. Looks like a fun build!

Target has some clearance, finally. All of Alien Conquest, Harry Potter, and some Star Wars. Grabbed Anakin's and Sebulba's Podracer set for $45, which is half off. Also got a PotC set just for the gold and buillion. :D

Another Target I went to had the same Podracer set at 25% off; go figure, as that one is in a nicer (richer) part of town.
