Arrrggghhh I've never really liked Alonso but loved Ferrari.

It's taken me this long to take a little liking to him (it's his attitude I don't like) but from the 'Your Home Of Formula One' interview recently, he came across well.

Possibly, but remember that both had to pit due to incidents at Valencia. Take away the majority of the DNFs *and* their run-ins, and I think you would've seen a similar result last weekend anyway. They need to make the most of the STR drivers' inexperience to get into that top 10.

In race trim Toro Rosso were as quick as any other old team, which suggests they either underperformed in quali or focused on the best race set-up, which compromised their quali efforts. Meanwhile Caterham still has to find 1 second per lap in order to fight with anyone in races. Unfortunately with DRS the skill of defending vanished almost completely from F1, so they can't even count on having mega start and then defending this position (with noble exception of Monaco track, of course).

We have to wait and see if their downforce is any better than it was previously, and Silverstone will be the best chance to show that. In Barcelona Caterhams were 2 seconds per lap slower than any other old team, so that's still huge gap to bridge. If they closed the gap in aero then they can have a chance to fight in Hungary, Italy, Singapore, Abu Dhabi or Brazil. Points still will be mighty difficult to grab, too many cars within 1-1.5 second of each other, too good reliability.

Why were all those other cars going so slow? If he didnt need to swerve he could have just sailed past 5 cars (nearly did anyway)

I think one was slow, so the rest bunched up behind the slow car. That's the danger of having significantly slower cars in the rain, you don't see them until you are right on them.

There have been a number of crashes over the years where a slow car on the wrong tires is limping to the pit to switch to wets, only to be smashed into by a car already on wets.

Anyone have any good pics from Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Only decent one I have seen so far:

Marc Gene, former Minardi and Ferrari test driver.
Giedo van der Garde, Caterham reserve driver.
Brendon Hartley, former RBR youth driver.

any word if the overheating issues with renault are solved? i read somewhere they did not know the real reason why the engine's lost power.

According to Vettel, it was the Safety Car's fault. As long as we don't get one in Silverstone, he should be fine.

I always wonder how the old cars handle on the new tires.

If the older cars were built round the bridgestone tires & now they are using the new pirelli ones do they find that great cars suddenly handle like crap, or a dog like the f60 suddenly doesn't seem too bad :D

Vettel wants to work with webber one more season because he has no problems with him.

I'd rather see RBR get a young driver from their driver programma or di resta or something.

Here's a good interview with Alain "The Professor" Prost at Goodwood. Short, but interesting. I wonder how many milliseconds it took for the boost to come on in the early turbo'd cars? Say from coming out of a hairpin then flooring it. A couple-few tenths?

There are some other Goodwood vids there. You Brits are spoiled for Newspapers with great Auto sections it seems!

I'm uploading an old piece of footage I haven't seen about Colin Chapman and Lotus in the early days in theme with this year's Goodwood. Think of it as an apology :(

Edit: Oh damn, I'm blind today! I didn't know those were your picture Lucius! Nice! Beautiful noses on those 2011 cars *sniff*

I wish F1 would use the 360° cameras they have in Indy.

Whatever cameras they use, I wish we got more footage from them. Maybe live streaming online from each car? Or at least available later? I don't know why they don't take advantage of the internet as much as they can to engage watchers. Particularly since the official feeds are sometimes controlled by the nation of the race, and end up focusing on national drivers regardless of the actual action on track.
