Yeah, basically this. If you could just somehow edit out Venom completely and just have him pop up in an after-credits scene as a teaser for the 4th film, it would have been much better. Spider-Man 3 was just a victim of far too much going on at once. Too many characters, too many plot points, too many villains, etc.
Should have saved a lot of it for the sequel. Now, that wouldn't have made Spidey 3 a good movie necessarily, but it would have certainly been a lot less frustrating to watch.

I really didn't think that any film could botch a villain as badly as the Greg Lantern film botched Hector Hammond, but Lizard in this film comes pretty damn close.

Tobey crying was hilarious, with Garfield, it feels earned, real, much more sincere.
There is no way anyone can point out flaws in Andy's performance.
But I guess Amirox is one of those cynical dudes laughing out loud in the most serious scenes, God, I hate those people.

A 2 minute sequence that is more brilliantly conceived and executed than most comic book movies in their entirety. The freeze frame to end it got a MASSIVE pop on opening night in theatres.

It's funny how 90% of the SM3 GIFs are from the pirated off-screen version because the movie was THAT amazing that people couldn't wait til it was out to GIF it lol

The first?! Flawless performances exist, what I'll say is that he's even better here than in Boy A (flawless as well).
I just love how the cam footage makes it seem that much better too. Seeing the DVD or Blu Ray gifs of those scenes just don't have the same impact.
Basically, which is how I find it easy to appreciate it. It's Raimi being Raimi. Which reminded me of another article in defense of the dance scene.

Basically, you have to assume the genetic modification causes some amount of crazy. Kind of like how Norman Osbourne goes from just wanting revenge on the board members to wanting to take over the world for some reason.
Did everyone miss the crazy voices in his head scene when he was in the sewer? It seemed like the serum he injected into himself caused a sort of split personality. Or else why at the end
when he's "cured" would he suddenly have a change of heart to help Peter from falling off the building?

Listen if that's your standard for "earned" emotion, you're of course entitled to that position. I think it simply implies you're so easily manipulated as to make your point useless; let alone your follow up that the performance was 'flawless.' Absurd.
As I said, for me emotional moments need to be earned. That scene wasn't serious. Not only wasn't this earned, but Andrew Garfield make a hilarious crying face. I was the only one to laugh out loud, but I heard plenty of other snickers in the audience.
And again, trying to apply your sadly low standards to how I react to ACTUALLY emotional films just makes it seem like you're trying too hard. When a scene is genuinely emotional, whatever that emotion may be, I react appropriately. Sophie's Choice was "emotional." That scene in Amazing Spider-Man? LOLOL
anyway, if I don't leave now I'll miss the fireworks fun. I hope it's not cancelled due to thunderstorms..
times like this I feel blessed for being so behind on film in general. I have a nice handful of Raimi left unwatched.
Hah holy shit how have I never seen this. Given the choice I would have watched this 60 times instead of seeing the actual Green Lantern.
For one, this isn't explained very well. Especially with
the post-credits maybe revealing the voices were a person? Confusing. Anyway, even if it caused him to be angry and then the antidote took that away, it's not at all satisfying. The character is never morally confused. He's one way, then he's a boring villain, then he's not.

Yeah, but SM1 did a better job of establishing Osborn as a character before he was transformed, so when he became a psychopath, some of his motivations made a bit more sense.
Connors in ASM was basically a blank slate, and then once he was transformed, he was all like, "HUMANS SUCK I MUST EVOLVE THEM!"
Even before then, he loses his job and funding and decides to do a human trial on himself AFTER going against it.
It was a completely destructive move on Connors part but the film never showed him as anything but 'somber' about his lost arm.
JK Simmons' are even better. He just doesn't break character. "You broke my fucking chimes!"

Yup, exactly. "It's not what the movie is about, it's how it is about it," as Ebert used to say.
The main issue I have with ASM was that I was stone dead bored through most of it. I was going to criticize it for taking over an hour to get to the Spider-Man action, but then I checked the time and realized it had only been about 40 minutes. The whole movie just crawls along most of the time, and the brief action scenes just aren't enough. The quick flashes of action are some of the best Spider-Man done on film (although nothing in ASM tops the clock tower fight with Doc Ock in SM2, IMO), but it's really not worth much when it's in such a dull film. It constantly shows us things we've seen before, often in ways inferior to the Raimi origin film, and I just couldn't get past the fact that The Lizard looks like a Goomba from the Super Mario Bros. movie.
The cast is good, and I think Garfield is a better Spidey than Maguire, or at least has the potential to be given the right script. A sequel could really be something great, since they wouldn't have to waste time on any origin stuff and could get right to the story. Here's hoping they get to make it.

The whole movie is criminally underrated. The "gumming" scene is one of the most disgusting/hilarious things ever.
Did someone give that guy the role as a favor to someone else? Good god, he almost out acted Toby in that movie.

The mystery of Peter's parent's involved in something so bad with Oscorp that they had to leave him behind as a child....unresolved.

Norman Osborn needing the formula Conner's is working on because it will save his life somehow... unresolved.

The mystery man in Conner's cell. Most likely Osborn.
4.)
Peter breaking his promise to the dying captain Stacy (which makes him a dick) which will cause Gwen her inevitable death in one of the sequels.
This will probably get tied up in the sequel in which we will get.
The Green Goblin as the main villain. His back story will directly involve the Parkers and we'll get the famous bridge scene where Gwen Stacy dies. Then, Peter will feel all guilty and remorseful for breaking captain Stacy's promise.
There was also Punisher: Warzone.
Yes. I'm curious why they gave him such a small flat head instead of a pointy one, you know, like an actual lizard.
