One Piece:

We knew that BB was once part of a Emperor crew before we even meet him .
So all of a sudden because he leave it don't matter .
Hodi was not part of any those groups , hell he had more back story than most CP9 members even if he did suck as a boss villain .
For a manga that has been going on for 15 plus years i wonder what you call a long time.

Hodi's main problem was Oda giving Drecken most of the good character development and then having him taken out because Oda decided the female Straw Hats didn't need any real opponents, leaving Hodi as a waste of space after Zoro one hit KOed him.

Blackbeard once being part of Whitebeard's crew is irrelevant in this situation because it's a past event and it wasn't used by Oda to hype the character up vs just giving the character a good back story (killing a former comrade, will of D, Ace, etc...).

Oda spend more time on some of them like Lucci , he hardly spend time on Magellan but he did not need to with a title of Head Jailer for prison that has not been broken into for 800 years.
Magellan also had a kick ass DF .

Now compare Magellan to Ceasar Clown, both of whom were able to knock Luffy out with poison Devil Fruits. And then take away Ceasar Clown's association with Vegapunk and DoFlamingo and just leave his merits as a evil scientist. Which one of them was the better/more intimidating bad guy at the point of the story where they defeated Luffy in your opinion? Obviously I'm siding with Magellan here.

So your saying Oda should say to him self that the SH just fight some one with a connection to those 3 lets throw in somebody that has no connection to them just because .
Even though Oda spend the first half of the manga having them do a whole bunch of stuff to make them world renowned , beating high level enemies moving up the food chain , moving further into the sea and having a 2 year time skip all so we can get to this point .
Also can you explain to me why you put Admirals is there own group , since they are part of the marines and the SH have been working there way up on there list .

If Oda cares about not being stagnant/not using the same tricks all the time for ratings, then yes, he should do that. If he doesn't, he can keep doing what he's been doing, which I'm sure he will.

I put the Admirals in their own group because simply being in the Marines isn't enough of a "legendary title" that allows for half ass villains or weak arcs to become credible simply from having the title or members with that title show up. If we removed Ceasar Clown's Vegapunk and Doflamingo associations, removed the Aokiji/Akaninu backstory, and kept Law as a Super Nova with no Doflamingo or Shichibukai associations, would you be as excited/interested in the Punk Hazard arc as you are now? If the answer is no, you finally understand my complaint.

I am not really missing the bigger issue you want villain build up but your not even giving Oda the chance to do it .
When we first found out about Croc it took us to 2 arcs before we even get Alabasta and a fair amount of chapters before he fought Croc .
Lucci had water 7 and then the Enies Lobby , Enel had a long arc for him self also .
This is the first arc for the NW and it has 20 chapters so far , DoFlamingo could be the main villain but like Croc we find about him early and they fight him in the next arc or 2 while beating some of his guys before they reach him.

I've been waiting for Oda to start doing this since the middle of the War Arc when all the cameo characters more than wore out their welcome. He's been pulling these same tactics since Thriller Bark and it's gotten old. I don't need to wait multiple arcs when the same things as past arcs are happening right now. Regardless all I'm doing is making a complaint about One Piece amongst the sea of praises the series gets, not giving Oda an ultimatum. Maybe things will improve and all my complaints will mean nothing and I will gladly eat crow. But that doesn't mean I can't complain in the mean time. How do you know things aren't going to go "Fishman Island" in the next two chapters and all your positive opinions about this arc will mean nothing? Why should I wait for an arc that may never happen, or for this arc to end to complain about what's going on in the series right now? Or would you rather me not complain about anything going on in the series until it's over and done with? This is why I don't even like talking about One Piece in this thread anymore. Some of you guys do not handle criticism of this series well.

This cover still blows my mind.

They were deliciously drawn tits. Either way, the guy used to dominate solid drawing, proportions and perspective. What the fuck happened to him?
Castlevania Judgement happened and then he sold out, I guess?

It did and the anime sucked.

I'm surprised you've never read ES21 DTL, considering your shounen power levels.

Why are you comparing a monthly Seinen to a weekly shonen manga? Monthly mangaka have more time to put more details into their average 25-35 pages a month while Shonen mangaka have to pump 17-18 pages a week.

This why i really hope Kubo´s next manga is a Seinen. The art would be too amazing.

Takemitsu Zamurai was a weekly manga

Not Popular 22

It's not her fault that she's not photogenic.

The college stuff was fine, I thought... why must everything be high school? Or do you mean because of the lengths it went to to avoid obvious stuff that'd happen in real colleges? Still, I thought that part was as okay as anything in the series... none of the franchise is great, certainly.

I have nothing against the college setting itself (I'd prefer it to the high school setting if done right), but the chapters lacked the charm/humour of the previous volumes and the new characters were entirely forgettable. You could make the same criticisms of the new high school chapters, but I think they're less applicable.

Yes but honestly, don't watch it (I watched it though, Eyeshield 21 is my favourite manga after all). The art style can't be matched, stick to the manga for some god-tier panels.

Ah darn, guess Ill add it to my list.

It did and the anime sucked.

After Area no Kishi and Kuroko, I kind of want more sports series to check out.

But you don't understand Kerred, we don't mind new characters, it's just this series already has enough characters. It's time we start seeing people who do matter. The ideal situation is new people/mixed with old. I liked Punk Hazard even before we knew about Law there. I liked Fishman Island at first because it was interesting, with people we cared about, but, then it becomes a terrible ripoff of Arlong's arc with a villain we'll never see again. Also making Jinbei one of the worst characters in the manga a spot in the crew.

I wouldn't have minded if Caesar was a standalone. One Piece is at it's best when it introduces new and old characters.

This arc is good because we're getting information, we're seeing old characters again that are doing stuff and we get new characters as well. This arc brought us Kinemon, the guy is awesome. Blindly praising One Piece? hardly. I damn near dropped the manga and for awhile feared it had lost it's charm. I liked the War Arc, but, it had enormous flaws (poor pacing, poor fights) that made it a low point in the series. One Piece is still my favorite out there, but, I'm cautiously wary and skeptical now. This arc could turn garbage, next arc could be garbage, who knows. I hope it's not.

Hayate no Gotoku

Sweet Jebus finally, some real plot again. Please let this thing go back to being more like the Athena arc (awesome) instead of the current one so far (rubbish).

Medaka Box

I'm half thinking Medaka's gonna flat out reject him next chapter, just because this manga is that kind of manga.

I can never really predict Medaka Box; this is my expectation as well since we still have three more suitors to go through that will somehow still be stronger than the last one despite her claim.

The part after the CB was more like "Hey, we know you'd like to see all the characters in one team so there".

I liked this in concept (and it's basically a trend to have an All-Stars arc) but it was basically just "hey guyz, black muscles are back" arc.

I really didn't care how it ended. But the timeskip bothered me. I would have loved to see sena being captain of a new line up.

I want to see the post-time skip match ups :|

I actually think this is what Murata has been up to, spending all the years working on this. It takes time to find the sacrifices needed to power his god-tier art for weekly releases.

Toriko

Haha, power scout. Introduction of the 4 monsters is alright. Get to the Gourmet world already.

Beelzebub

Meh, there was no humor i this chapter, or the humor is not working on me anymore. Bring back Toujou.

Medaka Box 22

Am I being trolled?

Some cool designs for Class 13 though, can't wait for another part of black muscles. And does that kid have a knife sticking out of his head?

Characters? But the first part of the series, before they graduated, barely had any other characters. It was the four of them, their teacher/adviser, and usually nobody else. At least the college part HAD other people in it... and I didn't think they were any worse than the new characters in the Azusa and co. in highschool part. So no, I don't quite get that criticism. and anyway, as I said, it's not like the first part of the manga was all that amazing to begin with... don't most people agree that it's a case where the anime was much improved over the source material? (Though I'm far from a fan of the anime, it is better than that part of the manga... the manga's only real advantage is that it's shorter.)

The main problem I saw with the college part was that sticking to that crucial (for the otaku fanbase) "no relationships, or even friendhips, with people of the opposite sex" thing just wasn't credible in college. I mean, for one of them or something, sure, but for all four, and for the other girls they met too (unless that one was lying)? Yeah, right.

(G) Edition 13

lol, the boy in the flashback is so obviously G-Maru.
You think? But how would that work? He doesn't seem to remember it, and wasn't this his first time travel? That reveal at the end of ch. 13, those pages, though... funny stuff. :lol

I'm guessing she's going to decline for some dumb reason like she doesn't deserve him.

Medaka, for as smart as she is intellectually, is a moron on matters like this.

Oh yeah, I saw that thing today at Japan Expo :

I stared at it for a few minutes, but 44€... Nope.[/QUOTE]

I wouldnt mind getting a Yugioh GX art book, but I bet there is no way in the world viz would ever release a yugioh artbook here, we already had to litrally beg them to bring One Piece Color Walk 2, or at least I remember sending messages to them multiple times for it.

Yugioh GX was like a vast improvement in everything in Yugioh, true friends and Destiny Heroes and Vehicroids, though I did like 5D's stardust dragons.

I read through it, since it's a recent artbook (2011 I think) it had some GX and 5Ds in it.

EDIT : Begging for Color Walk 2 ? That's a shame. Color Walk 3 just came out here, and Color Walk 4 will be released in October.

It's manga. The author can come up with whatever contrived development she wants to. Like maybe he just forgot because of some future tool or something.

Sounds like your firing shots here...

Not really. The BG's folder is advice from a artist currently working for DC Comics. The point is, that backgrounds (especially for common locations) probably don't need to be redrawn a billion times if the artist is half decent at keeping their stuff organized and/or technically literate.

I have seen some manga that do simply drop photographs behind the characters though. Whether you want to call that lazy or just one more potential artistic technique is up to the troll or the person respectively.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Gantz has elaborate backgrounds. You can't see shit because of them though. Probably not worth the effort since some white space would do the action sequences some favors there. Not like the guy's killing himself tracing over poser models anyway. (Probably pasting in GC model backgrounds too in all likelihood.)

Using BG's as a measure of artistic skill is kinda silly IMO. If an artist doesn't have the time or interest to draw them, they do have ways to compensate and readers wouldn't necessarily be the wiser. There are stylistic reasons to leave them simple as well.
