So during todays lunch hour 2HG game, one of my opponents got out a thragtusk and 2 conjurers closets. Also had a champion of lambholt out to boot.

Needless to say we lost that match.

I assume he had multiple targets for the closet? Because stackwise, both closets can't target the same Thragtusk; the second one to go off would fizzle.

I really can't wait until we get proper internet connection in our new apartment; we just moved from Texas to Australia, and I haven't played a proper game of Magic in weeks. I keep brewing in my head, and can't do anything about it!

Why is it that so many people approach all the Magic product they buy and events they play in from such a stringent expected value perspective? It isn't a flawed way to approach things, but it just seems so much more prevalent and exposed in Magic than in any other hobby. Is it just that it is generally pretty expensive and thus you want to get the most for your money?

Because Magic is rather expensive if your primary course of action is to buy packs/boxes to get cards you want. With the majority of value being held in mythic rares these days your chances of breaking even are much less than they used to be. I would rather spend 100 dollars on singles to beef up my standard deck and start winning money/store credit back on standard/modern/legacy tournaments than spend 100 dollars on a box of a new set and HOPE to get some of the chase cards. With m13, there isn't even a good chase card.

Anyone going to the SDCC for the Magic panel? Sounds like we might get our first RTR spoilers there.

We will definitely be getting first RTR spoilers at SDCC, confirmed by Magic Aaron Forsythe.

It's too late. They already have you.

The great thing about MTGO is that singles are dirt cheap (generally - chase mythics are still expensive), and there's something about ripping a pack online that just isn't nearly as satisfying. So if you play MTGO, you do nothing but buy singles - case closed. On the flip side though, it does mean that limited is a financially terrible proposition, so it's not all roses.

Oh yeah - and the new MTGO client looks sick.

Hmm, was hoping for something slicker, along the lines of DOTP. Still may give it a shot.

That new client does sound pretty nice. I hope they made all the assets scale to high resolutions better, because it looks so terrible when you make it full screen right now.

Does anyone know if it's still possible to see a list of events you've played in and who you played each round? It used to be in webapp.wizards.com under My Events, but they must have removed that at some point. Is that completely gone or maybe wrapped into the PWP pages?

Also I really like the way the mtgo client updates look. Hopefully it is that good in person.

I came back to the game! I haven't played since the release of Fifth Dawn. Good lord there are some new mechanics to learn. And I decided to pitch all of the old cards and focus on Standard. Well, the Innistrad/Dark Ascension/Avacyn Restored block. I haven't really run into a deck type in this block that's been interesting or fun to play at this point. Could someone point me to some mechanics that are particularly fun to get working in this block? Only caveat: I do not like white decks. They are boring.

Tribal decks are huge in Innistrad Block. Humans (both G/W and Boros), Zombies, Werewolves, Spirits, etc. But I think you're looking for something more interesting, so here's a few suggestions (with links):

  • Angel of Glory's Rise Reanimator - Use Faithless Looting and Mulch to dump a bunch of humans (preferably with ETB effects) and an Angel of Glory's Rise into the graveyard, then use Unburial Rites on the Angel and dump your graveyard back onto the battlefield.
  • Spider Spawning - Mill yourself to power up creatures like Splinterfright, Ghoultree, and Kessig Cagebreakers, or just flood the battlefield with spider tokens from Spider Spawning. Super fun deck to play.
  • Burning Vengeance - Play the control game with a deck full of flashback spells. If you stick a couple of Burning Vengeance enchantments on the table, you're almost unstoppable.

Finally got my booster box and impulse bought a fat pack.

Spoils from the fat pack wasn't all that great:
2shqO.jpg

Stuffy Doll (2)
Gilded Lotus
Sands of Delirium
Hellion Crucible
Quirion Dryad
Krenko, Mob Boss
Sphinx of Uthuun
Mutilate

From the booster box:
3EoLF.jpg

Vampire Nocturnus
Ajani, Caller of the Pride
Liliana of the Dark Realms
Primordial Hydra (2) 1 foil
Chandra of the Fire brand *which I got in the same pack of the foil Hydra

I'm a bit bummed that I only got one O.ring from the box, but I can't complain with the mythics and dual lands I got. Other notable rares were Master of the Pearl Trident, Thragtusk, Krenko, and Disciple of Bolas.

Aside from an Exhalted deck that I can build from these cards, I think I can probably make a goblin deck If I can find some other staple goblin cards like kings/chieftains and grenades.

I think I'll be sticking to buying singles from now on.

I need your help GAF. I am creating four magic cards. One is for my Girl Friend who I will be proposing to, another is for my unborn daughter (expected birth is early August) and two more cards for my two younger brother. I play MTG the most with my GF and little brothers and I will be playing with my daughter whether she likes it or not. So I can use a bit of help… Grammar, proper use of MTG langue to sound legit, Manna cost, ect.

When Harry proposes to Samantha she may say yes or no. If the answer is yes: All cards are returned to their library from the grave yard, player’s hand, in play, or form exile. Both players return to 20 life and combine their libraries and health. Both players win happily ever after. If the answer is no: Return The Amazing Proposal to its owner hand and try again.

Google Splendid Genesis. It's actually real and a number of copies exist in real life- Garfield had them done for himself.

(I see you've found Proposal.)

I ordered a playset of Thundermaw Hellkites.

I don't even play standard. I just really like dragons, and found the set for $65 shipped.

There's probably something wrong with me.... although, I guess I could just sell three of 'em at the current price of $25, keep one, and make a $10 profit.

Also, remember that thing about not going infinite drafting?

Somehow my words betrayed me. There's such an absurd influx of bad players in the AVR queues right now -- I think due to most of the pro drafters playing around in cube -- that I'm going 3-0 or 2-1 in nearly every queue I play. I went from 12 tix to around 10 packs and a fuckton of mythics.

I realize the law of averages is going to kick me in the ass eventually, but for now, this is goddamn awesome.

Every custom card website has long since been shut down by WOTC -- sorry man.

It'd have a much more personal touch if you made them yourself - I used to do it as hobby/for a bit of profit (mine were fairly professional, between 5 and 10 bucks a card), and I'll walk you through the process if you remind me. Drop me a PM, or steam message me or something.

I happened to check ebay just as a mispriced listing went out.
Nice. I bought 3 @ 20 because I forgot TCGPlayer had free shipping at $50. (Would have bought them at $17 and picked up 3, possibly 4 for had I remember that.)

Btw- keep your eyes peeled for RTR spoilers. There have been a few remarks over the past few days suggesting the potential of
A fixed JTMS (although definitely Jace 4.0, no matter the design.)
being revealed.

Not to undercut the rest of your post, which I agree with 100%, but the bolded isn't entirely true. Magic Set Editor is still alive and strong and is the best program for card creation, imo.

This just reaffirms my paranoia that the Fat Packs are purposely filled with average cards, and the booster boxes with kittens and candy. Don't mind me....

I meant websites that sell physical custom cards, which I assume is what he's looking for - MSE is amazing, it's what I designed my cards in. It's the printing process that's kind of difficult.

Just bad luck.

Had a friend open an Avacyn fat pack last week and he got 3 mythics out of it.

I opened an Avacyn fat pack a few months back and got two mythics and a cavern of souls.

Oh, my mistake. Yeah, every attempt I've made at making my own cards (I wanted some high-quality proxies for an EDH deck) came out either terrible quality, or way to thick.

Yup, I love MSE although I think development has stagnated? Did they ever release an update with Double-Faced Cards?
It seems like some parts of the forum are active, but yeah, I don't think they've released any new templates in a while. Did they ever get Phyrexian mana made?

I hear you dude. I split an M13 box with a friend last night and got one mythic, no O rings, but a good start on an exalted deck and a soldier deck. My buddy that got the other half of the box got 3 mythics! I should have just went all in!

I think I'm just going to pick another 4 packs go with what I have. Might buy a set or two of O rings online but thats it

Buying a box today during lunch to make the rest of the day go by quickly. Fucking fridays. I know it probably won't be worth it, but opening a box is like a drug :O

For people interested in making their own cards or proxies I would definitely recommend making them in Magic Set Editor. Then what you can do is take junk foil commons or something, use a little acetone to get the ink off so you're left with a shiny blank foil like this.

Then you can get them printed out on decal sticker sheets, align them properly like you're putting on a screen protector on a phone and trim the excess away.

A close up of one I did.

This was my first print test run doing so. My printer is really crappy so the ink didn't come out as well as I wanted but next I will be taking them to Staples or Kinko's to get them printed out 100% accurate. The best part about this process is that the sticker decal doesn't add too much to the thickness of the card so they still fit into sleeves nicely.

Just got my two Wolfir Silverhearts in the mail. Sweeeeeeet. Now I just gotta wait for my 30 other single cards and 12 M13 booster packs to arrive. The wait is killing me.

Another day, another deck. This time, R/W humans with the following as my starting point:

4x Champion of the Parish
4x Doomed Traveller
4x Kessig Malcontents
4x Goldnight Commander
3x Elite Inquisitor

4x Gather the Townsfolk
4x Thatchers Revolt

From there, possibly Riders of Gavony, Divine Deflection, Slayers Stronghold, Silverblade Paladin, and Mirran Crusader?

I'm about to print up a semi-custom cube w/ 40 "new" cards- does the standard MSE print size fit perfectly for proxies?

Typically what I do is just create the template with the art/wording/etc in MSE and then take the image and put it into a landscape Word document since you can fit about 8 cards on a sheet. As long as the size is 2.5 x 3.5 it's almost perfect.

Confirmed that there are 2 Planeswalkers in RTR, one of which is a new Jace. 2 Planeswalkers in Gatecrash, one of which is a new Gideon.

Was wondering how they were doing the guild breakdown this time around. I like doing it this way, gets the duals out faster and then gives everyone one last hurrah in the spring set.
