Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

So what is the main difference between the Guardian and the Warrior? Class descriptions can only explain so much. Is one more of a protective/CC role or does it really matter based on builds?

Guardians are basically heavy armor tanky healers which have reasonably good attacks. If you played League of Legends, think "Taric" on crack. Opal for harmony.

The Guardian is more support and control oriented than the Warrior, with bubbles and such.

As for my race/profession combinations:

Human Engineer
Charr Thief
Sylvari Necromancer
Norn Guardian
Asura Mesmer

At launch, at least. Might end up getting another character slot or two down the line.

It's all about the Build Wars man.

Interesting, haven't played LoL but it sounds like a role I wouldn't enjoy that much, I like being offensive for the most part. We'll see though.

I would recommend Warrior then. It's not that Guardians can't be built for damage - it's just that, well, they don't have Eviscerate. Though if that move isn't nerfed by launch I will be seriously shocked.

In that case, I would suggest Gate, but I have no authority when it comes to the guild.

I'm fairly sure it has been said that we should go to Gate, but the authority that be should probably stick the answer in the OP title before the weekend just to be safe.

Pretty sure we said Henge again for BWE3 a few pages back, while retail is going to be Gates (or whatever if change).

I think when we said that we didn't know that everything was getting wiped. It was just an idea...as long as we all agree on it because they are not giving out any free gems and I don't know if they will allow people to change servers.

Yeah. This is new information. So yes, it's reasonable IMO to move to Gate during BWE and see how we like it.

Alright. The only reason we would change servers to Gates is if the server that we choose this BWE would force us to be locked to said server for the official launch. If this is not true the we will stick to the same server. I'm sure I speak for the other officers when I say this.

Sounds unnecessarily complicated. This has probably been mentioned many times before so forgive me for asking but why plan on joining one server for the beta weekend and another server for release?

I will go to where the Guild goes.

It was something we the officers discussed. Originally we were planning on choosing a server that started with a G. Since that never really happened we decided to choose one server for all the Betas and when official launch came, we decided to change it.

That's before you knew we could change servers for BWE3, is it not?

I guess in all honesty it doesn't matter which one we pick this BWE because we have to pick again once the game releases.

Speak for yourself! Rolling and chatting with my GAF bros is a great part of the BWE experience. There's no reason for the populations to be split because of confusion - whoever heads the guild should simply put in the OP or OP title where we should go for BWE 3 and Launch.

Of course, but this would give us a chance to experience the server's population prior to launch. Beyond that, it may keep people from leaving it if GAF's influence in WvW is positive during this BWE.

I will go to Henge if that's the decision, but it seems odd given this change.

Hey hey hey, I want to play with GAF bros as well. I just meant it doesn't matter which one we choose as a group.

I guess it is up to the Guild Officers to decide and let us know.

I consider it one last hurrah with Henge before we go hard on Gates.

Since it really doesn't matter anyway what server we roll on for BWE3 (it's a three day thing, people, then it's over), let's give it up one more time for Henge, then go forward on Gates.

I can understand wanting to roll on Gates first, but this way when we get to Gates at Launch, it will be fresh, we'll put feelers out and establish ourselves.

I agree, it made sense to stick with Henge in BWEs because we were already there, but if we can roll to our future home and everything is wiped, I think we should head to Gate.

Maybe we'll find out that Gate of Madness is the unofficial server for hippies and decide against it for launch.

Look, I'm a reasonable guy. If you say, "We don't want to reverse the decision because it could cause confusion and we might end up being split between HoD and GoM," that's one thing. I can see that. But to say, "Let's stay on Henge, just, you know, 'cause," that's something else.

There are at least two benefits to switching to Gates for BWE3. I've mentioned both. So saying it doesn't matter when it very well might is disingenuous.

This pretty much. I don't think people realize that I'm also one of the officers. I'm not trying to sound like a dick or anything. I'm simply trying to offer explanations and answers. If the servers really don't matter, then it's best to stick with Henge for BWE3. It was already stated that this would be the server for the event. In order to avoid confusion or anything of the sort, it's best to stick with the plan. Like I said, the only change that would dictate a change to Gates would be if the server we chose for BWE3 is locked to the launch.

Lol. I just posted that.

EDIT: Honestly, if you guys are that hung over it, the Officers will discuss this tonight or tomorrow to see what exactly is happening.

While I think the rest of the game looks great, I have the say I'm incredibly bored with these classes. The only class that seems even remotely interesting is the engineer.

Well, honestly I'm more excited to play than see. Have you had a chance to play? I thought the necro looked cool at first but it just didn't fit my playstyle. You might have a different opinion pre and post.

This hasn't been discussed with the other officers, but given that the BWE is three days away, it seems like deciding to change to Gate of Madness at the last second will lead to widespread confusion. I don't like the idea of people missing the memo and ending up 'abandoned' on Henge.

Of course, the BWE is only three days anyways, so it doesn't make much difference in the long run, and I think it's pretty clear we'll all be on Gate of Madness at launch so there won't be much confusion at that essential point.

I think for sanity's sake, we should stick with Henge of Denravi for the BWE, and then go to Gate of Madness at launch. I don't think the entire guild should try to change their plans 3 days out, even if it is a temporary thing. That's why we went with the "G" named server in the first place; so people don't accidentally end up on the wrong server.

Even if there is a server list, we set these plans in motion ahead of time so there is as small a chance for confusion as possible.

Except you're forgetting that the server in the BWE will not be the same as it will be at Launch. At launch, there will be significantly more people that have bought the game straight out, and the landscape of the server will change. Hence, it still doesn't matter.

This is about giving Henge one last send off before we make it to our new home.

It's just the honorable thing to do before we migrate to Gates for headstart.

Maybe I'm confused, but are you locked into a specific server when you make a character? If someone rolled on Hedge instead of Gates, can they not just re-roll a new character on Gates?

Server selection is account-based, not character based. Once you pick a server, all of your characters are on the same server. They did it this way to prevent people from playing both sides of WvW, I imagine.

...That's horrible. I hope they find a way to change this, it will really restrict friends playing together.

Only in WvW.

They have a guesting feature for PvE and (I think) sPvP, so you can play with friends on other servers, but they locked servers for WvW because otherwise people would just re-roll to the winning server. They can still re-roll to one with a transfer, but it'll cost you about $20.

They're not going to change their mind about it, either.

It's only for WvW and not for anything else. So yeah, it'll prevent you from playing WvW with friends on a different servers. You can change servers using Gems though...

Man, I go out of town for the weekend, and I'm 11 pages behind on this thread. I suppose it has made the wait for BWE3 more bearable since I wasn't able to spend the last few days refreshing this thread over and over again. But now there's so much stuff to catch up on.

did any Europeans play on US servers during the BWEs? I'm afraid of starting a character on a US server only to find out that the lag makes it unplayable, and then being stuck there.

account-based server selection really is terrible

I believe some of EuroGAF is going to test this during this BWE. If you can get a Beta Key, it would be good to test it for yourself.

Henge of Madness or Gate of Denravi?

You can play as a guest on any server, region restriction-free, without paying a dime. This means you can play PvE, sPvP, dungeons, whatever with ANYONE, anytime, for free. Just met a new co-worker or friend who plays? In any other MMO, that means you can't play with them unless someone either pays $25 or starts a new character and abandons the friends they already have. In GW2 you just swap info and you can guest with them anytime.

The sole exception to this is World vs. World, where servers are pitted against each other for 2 weeks at a time. You simply can't let players have that much freedom for that gametype because you'd get people cheating by playing on an enemy server, or just changing servers to always play on the winning side.

GW2 actually has the most freedom to play with others of any MMO I've seen. It's just that for ONE GAMETYPE, they need to keep players more restricted than usual. Totally worth the trade off, and the only people it impacts are large communities like ours where we all want to represent together.
