Hesitant to cement obviously considering its one watch, but BB = TDKR > TDK.


BB's first half is the best stretch of the entire trilogy, TDK's interrogation scene is the best scene of the entire trilogy, but TDKR as a whole may be strongest, I'm not sure. It doesn't suffer from a comparatively weak second half nor a padded middle. Almost everything seems essential to telling the story.

There's a consensus up on RT now for those who keep asking what the general vibe is:

"The Dark Knight Rises is an ambitious, thoughtful, and potent action film that concludes Christopher Nolan's franchise in spectacular fashion, even if it doesn't quite meet the high standard set by its predecessor."

Interesting that they tacked on that last bit since the average score for TDKR is currently at a franchise best for both general and top critics.

I guess they figure it'll go down.

So basically this means "it's really great".

I'm okay with this.

Curious, how would you rank the trilogy? Which is your favorite.

I don't think anyone should really answer this directly after seeing TDKR. Many people (myself included) can sometimes let the hype/initial euphoria of seeing the new/last entry cloud their judgement. I'm 100% certain that directly after TDKR, many will proclaim it their favorite, just as I'm 100% certain a number of those same people won't feel that way after a few days/weeks/months.

After Prometheus, I'm ready to believe that TDKR is about as good as Batman and Robin. It's the only way not to be disappointed!

Yeah, it's so strong that the fact that BB's second half isn't as good as TDK means nothing really. It's just perfect up until Falcone is found on the skylight, and even after then it's brilliant entertainment.

I'm intrigued to see whether the change in tone means that it's better or worse received. The first one is standard origin movie done fantastically well. TDK is crime movie, but this is a stone cold war movie.

As have I. Most of the time, I can avoid it. But theres always a few that I can't help but have it for (TDKR, Skyfall and Django for me this year). For those ones, I just hope and pray it comes out good.
