You know what I've always wondered?

How come nobody noticed the Joker's crazy clown make up in TDK's prologue? I mean... he's just standing on the street corner. And then the fucking other bank robbers show up. But no one ever notices till the end.

I still don't quite understand how the Nolans wrote The Prestige. It's so much better than anything they've ever worked on. Sure it's based on a novel, but it still manages to escape from most of the Nolan trappings.

Funny, because I feel it falls in line with Nolan's work perfectly. It's almost the epitome of a Nolan film.

Don't talk like one of those seemingly reasonable NeoGAF critics, you're not! Even if you'd like to be. To them, you're just another asshole, like Sculli. They need you right now, to confirm their hype. But when you don’t, they'll cast you out, like a leper. See, their morals, their NeoGAF Terms of Service... it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the reviews allow them to be. I'll show you, when the chips are down, these... these civilized member? They'll eat each other. See, I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve.

This was wasted on the other guy.

Now that's more like it, Mr. Lee.

I'm wondering what the Joker did after Batman jumped out the window at the penthouse. Did he just hang around at the party for a while and just get bored and leave or what?

My problem with Nolan is that he seems to introduce characters as though they have a big and important role, and then seemingly forgets them halfway through or brings them back much later as if they ever mattered.

Case in point: TDK, inception.

If this is the case with TDKR, then I'm ready for disappointment.

Yeah Prestige is the classical Nolan movie in terms of his extreme strengths and weaknesses.

Memento is probably Nolan's best movie overall. Best monologues ever.

It's a big city. A dude in makeup probably is just kinda weird, and nobody except Batman, the police, and criminals knew who the Joker was at that point.

I think it's because he specializes in blockbusters that also attain critical acclaim. Michael Bay does the former but he can't achieve the latter.

If he didn't make the Batman films or Inception there's no way he would have this fanbase.
True.

Also I think the tipping point for Nolan was Prestige. People took notice with BB, he delivered in Prestige, TDK was just confirmation. And then people showed up for Inception.

Batfans are launching an attack on Devin Faraci due to his review. Hilarious, delusion stuff:

@Oliver_Klothsof:
if kubrick is better than nolan how come 2001 didn't cross $1 billion like TDK? 10 years later Nolan will be remembered as greatest

LOL.

Nolan can't touch any of Kubrick's great films with a ten-foot pole.

It seems nobody can escape the 3rd film in trilogy problem.

Toy Story 3.

I found Toy Story 3 the worst of the trilogy. It had a good beginning and great ending, but the middle was just a rehash of Toy Story 2 even down to Lotso being the same type as the Prospector. The idea of someone else now having your toys was already in 2, so 3 felt like nothing special. It felt like it was going through the motions, oh look we have to escape a daycare centre! Spanish Buzz Lightyear was Dreamworks level humor, awful.

I preferred the sense of adventure and action of 2 and found it more emotional than 3.

The only great movie trilogy for me is Bourne or Vengeance trilogy.

You think that's bad? You should see the tweets that people post on GAF from WWE fans.

WHY DO I STILL WATCH WRESTLING?! ARRRGGG...

Wait, Raw 1000 is next week. Gotta watch it. FUCK! I HATE MYSELF. It might be good though SOMEONE END MY SUFFERING.

Exactomundo,

The whole of a Nolan film is what makes it, each piece falls in line fantastically.

This. The way all the plot threads come together, how every little clue earlier on has some bearing on later events, is all magnificent.

I got that Inception feeling while watching TDKR, combined with the unrelenting tension of TDK. The film is further mastery of Nolan's style.

Read this for an interesting view on your point.

Was teasing. Agree with you on your Joker and Dent points. I thought the first was just more fun. Second was too depressing to me.
Interesting. With Nolan's usual attitude towards themes (spelling them out loud), I think this article's point is good, but that the Joker is still very murky in its depiction... It feels as though he could be either a well-written psychopath (which isn't very interesting), or a badly written character who's a vehicle for potentially interesting themes (had it been more consistant).

Well that's my two cents anyways. I still like TDK, though. I think I'd give it 3 stars out of 4, if I was on RT and people were waiting to add the score to the very meaning full total...

Can you give examples of what you're talking about?

mmm I like the LA times quote:

A disturbing experience we live through as much as a film we watch, this dazzling conclusion to director Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy is more than an exceptional superhero movie, it is masterful filmmaking by any standard.

probably already posted but my so hype me want watch now not friday fuckfriday knawmsayin?

Your opinions only matters to yourself. So your opinion > everyone else opinion for yourself.

If everyone in the world hated a particular movie but I loved it... I would still think the movie is great and not try to mold my enjoyment of the movie based off of external influence. I guess that's what Sculli feels with John Carter and I can respect it.

Awesome, love to hear that.

This in a nutshell is why I love Nolan movies. Hyped up if true.

Holy shit at Killing Them Softly. Dat cast, dat director, dat Pitt (he has NEVER looked more trill than he does in this, sorry Tyler Durden fans)

i suppose spelling out character motifs and themes out loud should be expected, these are summer blockbusters after all!

The thing with Nolan is that I'm never quite sure whether he hits us over the head with his themes because he knows that loads of small kids will be watching these movies and so he feels he needs to be a bit blunt about his message, or because he doesn't know any better and that's just the way he scripts his films.

there are few who constantly pick at that "Nolan style" but man I eats that shit for breakfast, sounds awesome.

I live in Canada, home of the free! Sculli lives in Australia, home of Foster's crappy beer.

I'm not a fan of our beer either though tbh. But then again all I've been drinking is Irish and Scottish stuff now.

Maybe I should give Canadian beer another chance.
