So there ya go, Batman Begins.
IDK man, it's kinda...average? It has it's moments, mostly great actors, Zimmer's score but uh...7/10 sounds about right.
All of Nolan's flaws are still evident and on full-display. ALL of the action scenes are terrible. Every single one. They have no sense of geography, haphazard editing, attacks land with no impact because the camera has already cut away before we can even feel the blow, and then they're just over. And the dialog is by-and-large quite terrible. So one-dimensionally literal and clunky. Things on screen are constantly explained and then explained again, plans that characters know will be said out loud in full detail just in case the audience missed it. Bruce looks at a gun or sees a bat, you can guarantee Nolan will do a quick flashback to make you understand the significance of this scene. Fear Fear Fear Don't be afraid, Bruce Fear are you getting the theme of the movie yet?
Bruce Wayne is actually pretty boring in this film. Bale spends the large majority of the film making this one kinda annoyed face with the same afflection and delivery. He only ever gets to be interesting when he's faking his way through social situations like the hotel scene or the drunk birthday party. Despite being the protagonist, he's probably one of the least interesting characters to watch in the film. And don't get me started on how many people he straight up kills or leaves to die.
But nobody is worse then Rachael Dawes. On paper, she's terrible; a condescending, irritating gnat of a character. But Katie Holmes REALLY drives the whole thing home. In the long history of miscasts, Katie Holmes in BB should be near the top of the list. There's simply no way in hell I ever buy her as this fake-ass Lois Lane tough DA. Never for a second do I believe in any of her line deliveries. Never in her interactions with Bruce do I see any kind of chemistry between the two whatsoever. And that fucking crooked smile she does in the ending scene of the ruined Wayne manor...she's like one of those smirky animals from the Dreamworks films.
I never found the man bad guy plot very intriguing, either, with the drugs and the goofy microwave emitter thing. It just kinda happen in spurts over the course of the film.
IDK, it just feels like a pretty average, run-of-the-mill superhero origin movie. The standard plot points, the shitty dialog, the equally shitty action sequences, Katie Holmes, kinda so-so Bruce Wayne carrying it. Eh *shrugs*
