I've seen a lot of other posters essentially express the exact same sentiment to JGS in other similar topics. They were having a public discourse and Stump publicly said he's done talking with him. The only difference between this and the previous instances is that Stump is a mod.
 
I can't believe how so many people were/are actually proud that they would be eating some fucking chicken later on. I mean, who are you trying to impress?
I'm usually pretty happy with how mature most threads are around here (the ones I frequent anyway) but this one... jeez.

To be clear, I didn't have a problem with it even though he's unquestionably wrong about me- whatever it is he's accusing me of.

Everyone should be able to speak freely about their view of the topic. Otherwise, there's no point in making the thread.
 
I don't know if it has been posted in this thread, but Massachusetts is currently blocking Chick-Fil-A from opening a store in this state for their feelings on the matter.

Reminds me of the 30 dollar Italian meal thread. Why would anyone brag about getting fast food? It isn't like Chic-Fil-A is some exclusive fast food restaurant only available in the highest peaks.

The only real reason to brag about going there (in the context of this thread) is to intentionally rile people up.

If the american christian fundamentalists had any kind of decency or respect for their own Bible, they'd restrict gay marriage within their communnity AKA priests not marrying same sex couples while leaving the issue alone past their own communnity.

But of course, the fundamentalists are big on social control and bigotry, since bigotry and hatred fill up churches and social control grants them money and power.

Utterly corrupt, many american churches are.

First you need to figure out what's their profitability on the meal you had.

Second, find out which share of their profits they dedicate to fighting against human rights.

Apply that to the amount of cash you spent there and voila, there's your pro LGBT contribution.

It feels so weird refering back to such ancient texts for guidance. In 5000 years if we are zipping around in spaceships are people really going to be saying "Well, it says shellfish is an abomination . . . does this synthetic food which contains some shrimp DNA constitute shellfish?"

I've never advocated forcing a church to marry two people if it's against their belief, however lobbying to deny rights to people merging their life under the eyes of the government is an expression of bigotry, pure and simple.

I remember when I was a kid I was thinking there was not much advancement left to do for mankind . . . the entire world was conquered, we had machines for everything, we had equal rights for everyone, etc.

But it really wasn't true, there were things to still move forward. And gay rights has been civil rights battle that I have seen fought and winning in my lifetime. It has been nice to witness that and play a small part. Even if it comes down to not eating a particular chicken sandwich it is a baby-step in the right direction.

I think people are free to believe what they want and support whatever causes they want. I'm sure the owners of In N Out aren't exactly gay rights activists, but at least if they are against gay marriage they aren't being loud about it for the detriment of the cause.

I really don't think it is...

I mean a passive boycott is good if it makes you feel better, but if the company is really that horrible you should be actively picketing/protesting the stores.

Really to me it is just noise. The real fight is in congress and the supreme court. What one bible thumping business owner does with his money I don't feel has a very large effect on the gay rights issue.

It was the tone at which it was stated. People don't normally announce they are ignoring someone unless it's regarding something negative. There was nothing negative of note to derive from what I said- at least nothing he mentioned. The implication is that I live up to whatever false premise is made of me even if he was vague concerning it and even though no one, including Stumpakapow and probably you, have never figured out a way to verify the dishonesty in my posts. It's siply a typical derailment from legitimate discussion.

The false premise is wrong unless he for some reason is claiming he doesn't like talking to me because he is disingenuous. I doubt that's the case.

Unfortunately since he is ignoring me, I'll never know the details.

It's not a Christian teaching that Christians dictate to the populace what they do with their laws.

If they had any respect for their Bible they would have a live and let live attitude outside of their churches and a firm set of rules in place that coincide with their teachings within it.

JGS banned, really? I didn't see anything in his last few posts that really stood out to me. He's usually a fair-minded poster that doesn't get too emotional.
 
Honestly, I never understood Gaf's love affair with Chick-fil-a anyway. I mean they're alright but, IMO, nothing great. Most of the people I know either hate Chick-fil-a or are indifferent. I just don't taste the "magic" that is suposed to be in their chicken sandwiches and waffle fries.

Its probably because of the comparison - if you don't have a lot of good chicken places in your area (in other words, the burbs) people are more inclined to be more fanatical.

Personally I think its the best fast chicken joint - it is really good, but its still chain chicken. I'd still rather go to the counter at the Sweet Auburn market in Atlanta and get fried chicken there, or at the Collonade, or at Merry Mac's.

I often find his opinions and his absolute immobility unreasonable, but his tone is almost always reasonable, and I appreciate that. Sorry to see him banned.

But here's the thing: You know that they're bad. And it's a chicken sandwich. Even if you donate to a pro-gay organization (of which, there are many who all accomplish a different set of goals), you've still willingly given money to an organization that backs an anti-gay agenda. Is a chicken sandwich really worth that? Really?
 
No, they can't. They may be blocking them from opening a store on public grounds, like a public university, for instance, but they cannot legally block them from opening a store privately.

They used to be something special. My earliest memories of Chick-Fil-A are from childhood. The only locations were at malls. And it was expensive. So you didn't eat it every week or month like McDonalds. For me, it was like a once or twice a year experience. Back in the 80's, there weren't many premium fried chicken sandwiches out there. And the waffle fries were a cool novelty.

That said, I hadn't been there in years, a decade really, and had lunch at one a few years ago. It was alright. Pretty good but not amazing or anything. I went back another time and was struck by the expense. Almost $10 for a sandwich, fries, and drink. They're kind of like In-N-Out, overrated, because fast food standards are so low to begin with.

Well this thread did prompt me to contact my cousin, who is gay. I filled her in -she lives in Chicago and doesn't know jack about the chain - and I get the feeling she would have cussed me out if I were not her older cousin. She seemed hurt by the fact I still considered eating there. Well that settled it for me more than anything, although I will still have a :( when driving by a Chick-fil-a. So fuck you Chick-fil-a, and your amazing, bigoted chicken.

Well this is the one reason I don't like gays because this does happen. I don't have a problem with them outside of that except for believing that only male and female should be together as intended.
