Always gets me lol!

No. No. No. No turning it into XV.

XV needs to be awesome and new and open world and fun. Not dudes looking solemnly out of windows and crushing on women in other towns. I want a goddamn chocobo knight fighting high tech airships. FF12's cutscenes in real time and all that.

They should all be in the present/future from now on really. I'm dead tired of fantasy shit in both jrpgs and wrpgs.

They should be radically different every time. That's what Final Fantasy was about. That's the beauty of the franchise, they're connected by mechanical design. That was so cool to me as a kid.

That's why the direct sequels suck so much, I like the world of XIII, but I never wanted to see it again, and I certainly don't want to see it again again.

If Versus is XV or not, I hope XV is nothing like any FF so far.

Tales is making a direct sequel too, it's lame.

I think the series should continue to be diverse. Pigeon holing into one specific type - regardless of the type - is most certainly not what I want.

It's hard to take this rumor seriously given that (1) It was posted by Ashcraft, of all people, and (2) SE just released Versus XIII DLC in Theatrhythm. I guess only time will tell, but I'm firmly keeping this in the "rumor" category for the time being.

I wouldn't be personally that bummed if it was canned, since there was never enough info for me to get hyped over, but it *would* make me seriously worried about SE. I know it seems like most people think SE has been in decline for some time, but I loved the shit out of XIII so I haven't had any serious concerns about their output up to this point.

The almost biotic (or organic) futurescape of FFXIII is the worst. I haven't seen enough of Versus to make a judgement but FFXIII's art had no impact on me if not negative. I'd love a return to FFVI's steampunk scenario.

I notice this a lot in jrpgs. They just throw in every color of the rainbow and have everyone wear clown clothes and call it an "art style".

I'm on board with this, but after 13, 13-2, (13-3?) the FF7 spinoffs, Type-0, FF10 HD, and maybe Verses, it is starting to seem a bit one-sided. Seem overdue for something like FF12 or 9 again. I really liked the look in Agni's Philosophy. Even if its a demo, its giving me hope for FF15.

I know a lot of people link 7-8-10-13 and 9-12, but to me, none of them look all that similar, 8 and 13 do, but none of the others.

I do this, but I can't make a huge case for it. I've always linked 6-9-12, and 7-8-10-13.
I'm not very knowledgeable about the specific developers, but 6, 9 and 12 do have the same director. Lot of cosmetic choices, and types of characters that show through, I believe. The crass way would be shout "No more annoying animu teens with too many belts" but people tend to get grumpy about that.

I think VIII had a better balance of modern and futuristic settings, whereas XIII leans over pretty hard to the futuristic side of things.

There's already different rumor about FFXV actually, and it's pretty close to what you're wishing.
RUMOR: GamesMaster reported that Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV has been in development for 4 years, which began one month after FFXIII was released in Japan, with a team of over 200 people. The game design and battle system will be a major evolution from FFXII, the game will have crowd filled cities similar to Assassin's Creed....

Including the concept planning and pre-production phase, the game has already been in development for over 4 years.
It entered full production in January 2010, a month after FFXIII was released in Japan. Since then it has had a development team of just over 200 people.
The game design and battle system will be a major evolution of FFXII.
The game will be open world and have sprawling, crowd-filled cities on par with Assassin's Creed.
The battle system now allows you to target different parts of an enemy’s body like in Vagrant Story.
Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada wants the game to have a world scale and volume of content that surpasses The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. He also wants the game to surpass FFVII in worldwide sales and critical reception.

I guess that's probably true for most people, I spent half my time in chapter 11, so about half and half between future and some neo-jurassic park nonsense.

Its all just a cover! Versus isnt happening. SE have really been secretly working away on that FF7 remake!

Or maybe not!

Next up: The Last Guardian.

...yep. Always felt both titles were vaporware. You don't allegedly work on titles for 6+ years and have virtually nothing to show for it. The saving grace for Versus is that some of its assets will likely be cannibalized for future FF titles, as we've seen with the old man in Agni's trailer

FF versus is totally a front for KH3 haha, nomura is going to reveal that yet never were working on an ff game!!

Mind blown O_O

Your totally right, but it's going to be KH3 :3

It's not the length of time, but HOW they've approached the development of the game. They didn't start development until they had a full idea of what they could achieve with PS3 and had all plans mostly thought out + they aren't taking any shortcuts with development. Sure, it has taken a long time (though, with relatively small team for much of that), but Final Fantasy Versus XIII might be one of the most ambitious games done so far. You don't make a game of the scale and (hopefully) quality in 2 years, this is not a 6-8 hour experience like Uncharted.

I don't expect the game to be flawless, there's just no way it will be outright BAD (and I seriously doubt it'll even be mediocre, at the very least it'll be good). What I know about the game and have seen from the game simply show a game with huge potential. The game looks like it'll be a mix of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XII set in a modern day world and trying to infuse the kind of interactive cinematic stuff into all of it that's usually just seen in super-linear games like Uncharted, not huge-ass open world-ish JRPGs. I mean, if you just look at the feature-list, the game seems like it could be one of the best JRPGs of all time, unless they've screwed up something incredibly basic. This is pretty much the game where Nomura is putting all he has learned & experienced so far, and he has a great team backing him up (the team has people who were behind games like Final Fantasy VII). I'm just confident he & his team will deliver the goods when Versus is finally released, based on everything we know & have seen of the game.

They didn't take long with XIII to ensure quality, they took so long with it because they had problems with the tools to develop the game and THEN THEY RUSHED THE GAME OUT in pretty much one year. Seriously, don't comment on things you have no understanding of. :| The development of both games didn't start until some time in 2008. FFXIII was rushed out in a year (with the help of Nomura's team), Versus XIII has been allowed to take its time. FFXIII could be something very different if it was released in, say, 2011. That's where the whole "HD Towns are impossible" comes from, it was impossible for them in the actual time-span that they had for the game's development (not just screwing up its development tools)

... Or, due to the problems with the engine to be used for both games, they shifted Versus staff over to FFXIII to work on them one at a time. That being said, Versus will probably not repeat the mistakes of choosing to prioritize certain elements over others given the reception to FFXIII. Which means it can't be rushed out ... or at least shouldn't be.

If this is canceled, or no longer exclusive, or coming next year and still exclusive, it's not going to make any difference to Sony.

Sony don't care if this game is cancelled, SE on the other hand probably blew nearly fifty million on this game if it's canned.

Paradigms didn't even exist in the demo, did they?

What an extrodinary display of mismanagement if this is true.

Six years, millions of dollars, manpower for other projects, all down the drain like that.

I feel like the town idiot, but what exactly does the term vaporware mean and where did it originate?

Vaporware - Software or hardware that has been advertised but is not yet available to buy, either because it is only a concept or because it is still being written or designed

"The first reported use of the word "vaporware" was in 1982 by an engineer at the computer software company Microsoft.[2] Ann Winblad, who was president of Open Systems Accounting Software, wanted to know if Microsoft planned to stop developing its Xenix operating system. Some of Open System's products depended on it. She went to Microsoft's offices, and asked two software engineers there, John Ulett and Mark Ursino, who confirmed that development of Xenix had stopped. "One of them told me, 'Basically, it's vaporware'," she later said. Winblad compared the word to the idea of "selling smoke", implying Microsoft was selling a product it would soon not support.[3]"

I believe whatever Kagari says.

Also hope when this game comes out that they don't redesign Stella's casual outfit, it's very cute... for 2006. Even it's out of style now, I will love it and the cosplay of it forevers.

Only because they were ambiguously lesbian. Take note, S-E! This is the one element of XIII that needs to be around in the next FF!

Nonsense....Well maybe Vanille. Fang regardless of what people believe about her sexuality was fucking awesome. Easily the best character in XIII to me.
