SPOILER for Solo

Watching young Ra's as a mercenary and his backstory with his wife and kid was great. At that moment I realised we were joking just a few days ago about a movie on Ra's .. written by Solo :lol

What a coincidence.

Thankfully, it's also FUCKING AWESOME. Bruce's arc, which has always been the heart of the franchise for me (and his backseat role in TDK is one of the reasons I am down on that film), gets the treatment and the screentime it deserved, and Nolan pulled it off brilliantly. Like, fucking amazingly. I had the biggest smile on my face during the final scenes. The heart and emotional undercurrent that drove BB has returned here in droves, and Bale really gets to shine. It really felt like the ending to an epic trilogy, and it really went out with a bang. The final few minutes were just perfect. I suspect there will be some controversy arise out of some of the final events, but I felt there were all thematically justified and struck just the right note for me. I was 100% completely satisfied with the journey of Bruce Wayne.

Couldn't agree more with this part.

Good movie. 7/10. BB was better though. BB > TDK > TKDR

I fucking LOVED IT. Let's get this out of the way straight away - in some ways this is the very worst entry in the series, and in some ways its the very best entry in the series. It is BY FAR (like much, MUCH more than even BB) the most comic book-y of the films.

As such, it carries a whole host of contrivances and holes in the plot and the film's internal logic that trump anything seen in either BB or TDK. Big time. I suspect this is a movie that will have its nits picked to an extent that would make the nitpicking done on TDK seem tame. Also, time and distance are played extremely fast and loose with, and as such, I would probably would say its the messiest movie of the three, from an editing and plotting perspective. Some of the characters, Bane and Miranda Tate chief among them, were not nearly as well developed as Rhas was in BB or The Joker or Harvey were in TDK. Fabulously acted, but both felt as though they needed some more meat on their bones. The action wasn't bad at all, and most of it was clearly shot, but as usual it lacked that stylistic and editing prowess that Nolan's action always does. So yeah, TDKR has its problems.

There is a whole host of fanservice in this movie, but you know what? That shit fucking worked for me. TDK and especially BB have heaps of references to them, both overt and subtle, and I ate that shit right up. The cast was great as usual, with the real standouts aside from Bale this time being Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway. Caine just fucking slays me when he gets on with the emotional stuff, and Anne absolutely owned her role and definitely came to play. So many great scenes that I know I've likely forgotten half of them already, yet some of them are instantly unforgettable to me.

A bold, unconventional, out there conclusion to a flawed, but very special trilogy for me. It's Chris Nolan being Chris Nolan, and all the good and the bad that comes with it, and he nailed this one for me. A script with issues triumphed over by a movie with character arcs and emotional beats that resonate.

This is why I like you, this post right here.

I want to get a drink w/ you and watch some movies.

Nice review Solo. I think you downplay Bane a little though. I think this crazy mofo actually made Joker look like a minor league villain

The Bat was also amazing

I just got back from watching it. It was pretty good, but I had a few problems with it.

I thought it was about 45 minutes too long. It started to drag a bit near the end. I was finally started to wonder when it was going to end .

I didn't see the prologue, so I don't know how Bane sounded in it, but I still had some trouble understanding him. I'm looking forward to the Blu-Ray now so I can watch the movie with subs.

Not enough Alfred.

I loved Hardy's performance. I think the script let him down though, and the ending of his arc was abrupt to say the least.

Oh, I saw:
-Skyfall. It was wonderful.
-Superman. Was a teaser.
-Hobbit. The one we've seen already.
-And a bunch more including a new Tom Cruise movie.

I don't see movies too often...was thinking of seeing this Saturday morning at 9am...would even those early morning tickets likely be sold out? I'm in an average sized city.

I think this is the last IMAX movie I see though. At least the one here. It's just too much and the screen is too close. The sound was absolute overkill as well.

Oh, the trailers we got were:
Oz: It actually looked neat (except for the CG fairy thing, because of how close to the camera it is. It's like "Boom, look at this CG Thing!")
Gangster Squad: Looked good, something in the vein of LA Confidential (love that time period) but now, who knows what'll happen with the movie after Colorado
Superman: Boring Teaser
Total Recall: Not bad, will see for Bryan Cranston (and I'll hope Cohagen wins this time! Home in time for Cornflakes.....with Walt Jr.)

Check Fandango just in case. In NYC a 6am Saturday showing was sold out...

I went to the AMC near Lincoln Center today for a 10:25am showing and there was already a line for it (just for seats) when my friends got there at 8. When I went to pick up my reserved ticket, I overheard one of the clerks telling someone that all showings are sold out for the weekend. AMC didn't play any trailers for us because of the sheer volume they got.

Here we are Speeding, at the end of all things.
You, me DM, Veidt....the whole gang is here.

oh yeah, and I got Bourne as well. Probably will see, as I like the movie universe, and it doesn't bother me it doesn't have Damon in it.

Just got home after seeing it and walking through Manhattan for an hour or so digesting everything while listening to the OST (did this after TDK and Inception too, so good). I really want to talk about it but am wiped out and will organize thoughts tomorrow.

Also: Bane is a fucking BEEEEEEEEEEEEEAST.

Your review did not disappoint me. I knew you would genuinely love this, and not because you love everything or some bs, but because this is loaded with stuff YOU specifically love.

The Blade Runner style shots sold you, didnt they. I know they sold me. Nolan wore his heart on his sleeve with this movie. I've never seen him be so meta with his fans.

It was as though the film was purely created to just fulfil every single dream I had for a Batman flick.
For a character arch, I have honestly not seen a character handled so well in a single film with everything else going on. So many great shots. Bruce rising give me so many chills. I was trembling with glee. It feels as though Nolan just decided to tick off every single request on a fanboy checklist.

I just saw the movie and I really fucking loved it, but I'm not sure how I'd rank them yet. I agree it's the most flawed of the three and it is messy, as I feel like they tried to do so much in a short period of time, but I'm not gonna lie and said I didn't enjoy every minute of it.

Well im fourth in line for the 11:30 lieMAX showing. Got here at around 9:15 and there was already 3 people in line but now there are at least 50. Good thing I got here when I did! Too bad I forgot my headphones or I could be listening to the damn score while waiting :/

Went back through the thread and saw this:

Seriously though, I can't get over how comic booky this was. Gonna make a lot of people love it. Gonna make even more people probably hate it. Like, this was almost as comic booky as the Raimi Spider-Man movies.

Throw me in the camp that's gonna love it. :)

Great 1st and 2nd acts, absolutely dreadful finale with too many cliches, lack of originality, and too many very on the nose moments. Holy shit what a terrible ending that was. I thought for sure this one was finally going to have a great third act, but I was wrong.

Very disappointed. The first two are way, way better.
