Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Is anyone else finding dynamic events in large groups to be a bit too much "chaos"? As in when large groups of enemies start charging in I find my Warrior just likes to run in and start swinging away wildly with a 2-hander.

I don't feel combat in this regard is any sort of good. Enemies die too quickly to try any kind of real tactics - everyone just spams every AOE and stuff dies fast. Is this fun for anyone else? Zerging in events?

I find 1v1 fights against higher level mobs far more fun than dynamic events that end up as zerg fests. About the only time I had fun in an event was a boss of some type which required me to watch what the boss is doing and react. During "wave after wave" dynamic events I just spam whatever AOE attack I have if it's off cooldown and rarely pay attention to my health, dodging, etc since they don't seem to matter. Knockdowns, pins, hamstrings, conditions, etc don't seem to matter much when all enemy AI groups up and dies in a few seconds - hardly enough time for a condition to make a difference.

I dig the combat 1v1 when stuff doesn't die quickly - but I'm finding events with massive amounts of players to be "meh". Every time I see a new event popup I let out a sigh since I know I'll more than likely have to participate in another zerg which doesn't test my skill - rather - is just a game of "whack a mole" when a big damage button lights up.

I doubt any of this will change before launch - is this just the nature of the beast? Large zergs where I don't feel like I make any sort of real impact despite earning the highest medal for contribution to an event?

I haven't been through any 5-man content yet but am hoping it is the exact opposite from dynamic zerg-fests.

This is honestly the only fault I give to the game which more than likely is due to the fact of there being a ton of people playing the same space at the same time since most people are roughly the same level going through the same content.
I felt the same way on my warrior the other day. Was tonnes of people in the Charr starting area, and every dynamic event felt like a real clusterfuck. Part of the reason I've been playing the PvP so much.

Tried a few games regardless. Felt like it was so low that the defensive skills and armour counted for nothing. At least I've scrapped one more profession off the list.

Dungeons are quite the contrary, if you try to zerg it you will die ugly. The enemies resist more and you need to really pay attention to them. That is from story mode, explorable mode is more hard.

And agree, i just hope in higher levels that type of even the enemies have more hp and better skills, the ape zerging is mindless.

Have the devs said anything about performance? I have a top-end SLI GTX 680 system and I'm dipping below 30 fps frequently when using max settings.

Each BW i play i end up getting to level 13-14 and suddenly get underleveled for every hearth s around me.
Am i doing something wrong ?
What should i do to keep beging ''correctly'' leveled ? Tried a bit of crafting or grinding mob but i have the feeling am not really supposed to be doing taht so soon

Are you doing any of your personal story? The zones are designed so you're doing personal story/events/gathering and hearts.

i did my personal story quest until they are 3 level ahead of me. : /

I explored a lot, discovered everything in my starting area (Am Asura) and i even did Geomm lab( some long jumping puzzle that made me rage sooooo much about the collision detection in this game)

Im gonna try to play a lot today. I dont think the game is for me. But I did drop my melee chars and tried a range and that helps quite a bit in terms of me actually enjoying the combat. Still feels clunky/clumsy to me, but its much better than melee.

about 8 hours ago, a couple of other people from here and myself did the jumping puzzle in the Sylvari starting area. Took us an hour to finish it. So after doin all the jumping, I get to the chest...only to find out it had a lvl 2 grey boots for me :(

Yea I was in the group with you and ended up with armor for another class. Kind of a disappointment to do all that and not get something good out of it.

I feel like I could waste a ton of time crafting stuff and feel like I may not play anymore this weekend and wait for the release.

Weird, i did it in less than 10 min and got two blues. You are saying about the one that start where is a skill point and finish with a spider tamer or an i confussing it?

This sounds like a different one because the one we did at the end they have four security golems.

I think I'm just tired of MMORPGs that direct the player so much. I liked the old school MMOs where there was less direction and players came up with their own goals and formed groups to accomplish them.

At least in the newbie areas, Guild Wars 2 seems like the most directed MMORPG yet. Every area you visit there is some quest or dynamic event going on, which guarantees that anyone in the area will only be doing that, since that's the most efficient way to gain experience and rewards. It doesn't help that the exp from individual mobs is abysmal (granted, they die in a matter of seconds).

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I really want a game with a less frantic pace. Even when I just want to explore in Guild Wars 2 (which is a neat aspect of the game with tangible rewards), I constantly feel like I'm missing out by not participating in the events I walk past. It's probably just my personality or something, but the game feels really ADD to me in how it seems to bounce the player from frantic event/area to the next with no breaks in between, never giving the player a chance to focus on any given element of the game.

I'm going to play a bit more today and try to get up to lvl 15 and maybe experiment in some PvP, but so far I can't say I'm a huge fan of the gameplay.

DAMN! So here I was thinking I'm all set for launch with a Human Elementalist but I just spent an hour in game as an Asura Engineer and now I'm torn!

The Asura animations are great.

I agree, Zefah, and to be honest I've found GW2 to be a very good open-ended game as far as that goes...so long as you're okay playing solo or with maybe just a friend. Turn off the legend in the map, find something in the distance that looks interesting and go explore it. Look around a lot of the walls for random caves. This is the first MMO in awhile where I've been completely oblivious to what level I am because I'm having enough fun just wandering around Celadon seeing all that there is to see.

I think I've played enough of these BWEs. I know what the game is about so I will just wait for it to come out proper. Will login for the ending event whenever that might be and that's it.

I feel the same way, except I'm wasting a lot of time trying to pick class.

It seems I have been hearing that BWE3 difficulty level has been toned down or something? I haven't played outside the character creation screen, but I seem to remember BW1, BW2, ST1, and ST2 being difficult, almost like every battle was exhausting. What is the consensus here?

Every beta weekend has ended up being bad weekends for me to play. Except the first, but I still couldn't dedicated enough time to really dig into the game. Might be for the better. This BWE I only watched the new races intro movies.

I'm looking forward to the Retail when we can have permanent toons. I plan to roll onto the GAF server and hopefully join the guild. I'm glad to hear you guys will be rolling on a not-so-popular server. Charr engineer will be my first/main.

Bah first post. What are some of the best things you guys are enjoying about this BWE?

Same for me. I was able to put decent time into the first BWE, but couldn't do the last one and haven't been able to jump into this one yet. Will for a bit tonight, but I'm mostly waiting for release to truly dig in.

Oh snap, will need to search for it, where is it?

Easier.

Alright, just tried dual dagger ele and damn, it is SOOO much better than what i was using before. Feels like a very fun, mobile melee class with BURNING. Havent tried out any of the other elements yet, but Ill be dropping the Necro for my ele

So

Charr Engineer
Slyvari Ranger
Asura Ele

With air you get riding the lightning, pretty cool spell.

So the Morgan's Spiral 'puzzle' is getting a lot of buzz in area chat. It took me about 3 tries, 4 if you count doing a section again cos I got lost. Yet people are agonizing over it... so being brought up on platformers has proved somewhat useful :P

Finished the Sylvari starter area, well worth it: loads of crafting goods, couple of pieces of nice gear and a pretty substantial amount of coin and XP.

I love this game.

Feelin' tired of the beta.

Thought that gems were kept on the account, but Retro said only gems bought with money.
SPvP still feels a bit buggy. Had the respawn load screen freeze on me three times, and many times where my finisher doesn't do anything.

I'm not even playing this one (thought about it and even retrieved my G7). Got enough information and practice in BWE2. And I don't want to time sink just to lose progress. I'll study up the week before launch and then dig in.

There are a couple tricky jumps but I got it on my third try. The trick is you can't trust your characters animation. It doesn't look like it but you have full control over your character even if they're playing a fashy animation like stumbling forward.

OK, remember what I've been saying about the little rats

They are kinda cool, but just barely :P
What have I done?!
.

hi5, another Asura Necromancer present

jbwgONyxTfy6DM.jpg

I'm enjoying the Necromancer quite a bit, looks like I found my replacement for my Elementalist.

been playing a tourney (my first one) with some randoms and we handily win the first two game. Then comes the third match, and the enemy team completely destroyed us (something like 500 to 50 points). As soon as one of them went down, he was instantly revived by his mates - they had excellent team coordination (most certainly an arranged team with voice chat, oh well :P).

We were absolutely helpless.

With air you get riding the lightning, pretty cool spell.

I found lightning to be pretty weak compared to fire though. Ride the lighting was sweet, but all the other lightning spells kinda sucked

Ele was damn squishy too. My necro could kill things and actually survive decently. I mean, i had the necro kill one of those centuar captains at level 5, while my ele just got smoked at the same level

I never even got an invite into the guild, lol. Doesnt really matter too much considering I was banished to Henge of Crapravi

Me neither. Was too busy doing stuff with friends to really have had much time to do GAF stuff this weekend anyway; looking forward to joining the guild on release. I did see a gaffer about in Metrica though!

So every single class I've tried is fun so far. It's going to be *really* hard to decide on what to play on release, even if I'm basically decided on engie then ele.

I'm really happy with how much they sped up weapon skill learning; that was one of my few big complaints. It was taking forever to get all the ele skills.

Sounds like he's talking about the speed jumping puzzle, which is a cave in the West central area of the sylvari starting area. I forget the exact waypoint, but it's near a fort and you just follow the river West until you get into a cave that LOOKS like a dead end, but if you jump up you'll know you are there because it's very asura looking and lava-filled.

Easy, switch to water and staff, stand by your enemy, auto-attack and afk.

I've decided! It's definitely going to be Charr Engineer. I had a bit of a play around in sPVP. I absolutely LOVE the multiplicity and versitility of this profession.

No idea what previous betas were like, but the game is extremely easy up to level from what I've played. Probably the lowest difficult of any MMORPG combat I've ever played. Mobs die in less than 5 seconds unless it's a big encounter in which melee can't really participate. No death penalties really, and it's extremely easy to get around. Seems like a game for people who don't like challenge in PvE content (unless it greatly ramps up later on).

I think it all depends on event scaling

I only had an hour and leveled by Thief to level 3 or 4, but when I was level 2 the event scaling at the starter area brought out level 4 mobs and they didn't die in 5 seconds.

Before this, I was only able to participate in the first beta, sometimes you can have enough players around that mobs die just very quickly.

I also had an event in BWE 1 where I was the only player and I died because 3-4 mobs from the event attacked me.
