DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

When I run the beta executable I get this message:

Addon 'dayz_anim' requires addon 'CA_Dubbing_Counterattack'

But it did run once and when I got the main menu I got this message:

No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgVehicles/Citizen1.scope'

How can they be fixed?

You're probably not running the game as Combined Operations but simply as Operation Arrowhead. If you have the game through Steam its just a simple matter of having the correct launch options and selecting Combined Operations when you run the game through Steam. If youre not using Steam you'll have to get a 3rd party launcher to do so.

I'm having some trouble with it as well, I'm getting that I have the wrong version number when trying to join the server. And I just downloaded the game from the updater...

Running Operation Arrowhead or Combined Ops? I believe CO is the one you want to launch.

off to the best start

Ah, okay. I run CO and now I'm getting that error Salsa was getting about Direct 3D 9, lol

If youre like Salsa then you dont have the proper Launch Option put into Steam.

Right click on Arma II AO in steam select properties and in the window that pops up select Launch Options and put this in there "-beta=Expansion\beta;ca;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@DayZ;ca -nosplash" That should be all you need.

Installing this and getting on the server was easier than I expected.

...but right clicking on my bandage to try to use it doesn't do anything :/

Alright, I used Six Launcher and got into a game but I started in the middle of an ocean or lake, everything was black except the sky which was blurry. Is this normal or am I experiencing a graphical error?

Doing all of that still gives me the Graphical3D 9 error.

Remove the Post-process filter, HDR and make sure your 3D resolution matches your Interface resolution.

That should remove most of the blur.

Setting 3D to native resolution helped, as did the removal of post-processing. But when it comes to HDR, it only gives me the options for normal/high/very high. I suppose I don't want to turn it completely off anyways.

You want to keep it on High if you plan to play at night at all. Normal of off will result in it being impossibly dark.

Ughhhh

I had SO MUCH gear. I found this abandoned castle like building at the top of this hill. Had ammo, flairs, pain killers, arrows, good ole' coca-cola, figured I was in good position... then I left, found a few more buildings next to an abandoned gasoline station and figured I'd go inside to look for some food, only problem was that the door had shattered broken pieces of glass and I decided to slam the door ON MYSELF, cutting myself, which inevitably led to me bleeding out :(

Edit: For some reason Steam isn't allowing me to upload the pics so can't show you my fun :(

Also, so I am playing Day Z, avoiding zombies, hearing their grunting and moans in my head phones, and I feel out of nowhere a pat on my back and see in the corner of my eye my wife...I literally jumped and said HOLY SHIT

For some reason I'm hesitating buying this despite it being the biggest thing I wanted from the Steam sale. If I enjoyed playing New Vegas on Hardcore with Project Nevada hardcore mode stuff turned on too will I like this?

In the name of all that is holy please check your graphics settings the first time you run arma2/arma2OA.

When you notice that 3d resolution isn't set to your native resolution, CHANGE IT.

I don't know what BIA was trying to accomplish with having those two graphics values set differently.

Between that and toning down post-processing all the "blurry" comments should go away.

Do you also enjoy STALKER? Then YES! Just be sure you have a friend you can play with, else you'll become frustrated and die a lot.

And playing with the GAF group, you're certain to have good people on your side.

Unless you live in South Africa, then you dont have much hope :P

So, I played about 15 lives. Two times I found an axe, once a pistol and only one major city. It's getting abit boring. Do I need to learn the map to find more crowded places?

I actually haven't played Stalker yet, but that has more to do with me just sitting down and investing myself in it. I'm going to go ahead and get it. Thanks for the help guys.

Cherno always has people, Elektro sometimes has people.

If you really want to find people just sit in the middle of one of the airstrips, you'll get serviced quite quickly.

My advice: Play it like Thief until you have a good weapon. Play it like Counterstrike after that. It isn't a zombie game, it is an open world pvp survival fps where one of the environmental hazards just happens to be infected humanoids.

You dont have to invest yourself. The game will take care of that for you LOL

Being able to navigate, especially if you are trying to get to a group of people, is very important. Being able to spot landmarks on the map versus your location will come with time. But once you pick up the habit, you wont have issue.

Try this map for navigation, it's helped me greatly!

So I climbed up a crane to watch out for a friend of mine who was trying to meet up with me in Elektro. Decided to go prone on the crane platform I was standing on and my character takes 2 steps forward and belly flops onto the pavement? WTF?

Don't go prone in high places kids.

Well I've tried. But only found pisssmall villages all the time with maybe one open building. :/

Hit escape and then select respawn.

When you start it briefly shows location in the lower right corner of the screen. With that info and the dayzdb map you should be able to figure out roughly where you are. You almost always spawn somewhere on the coast.

If it says "Wilderness" you're most likely on the Western-most part of the coast. You can just head inland from the shore until you hit the railway and then follow it East. Hit up the control tower and the hangars at the airstrip by Balota on your way East if you do spawn over there. You'll usually get a decent weapon or you'll get killed.

The view distance is pretty long, keep your eyes open for obvious land marks, like lighthouses, bridges, cranes, docks, etc. There are also roadsigns on the main road which can help you locate where you are.

The topography markings on the map are useful too. Makes it easy to figure out where you are just by the hills/mountains/valleys/etc.

Don't go prone in high places kids.

First day I was playing I climbed up on a roof and was running around, saw somebody in the distance, went prone, slid about 3-5 meters forward right over the edge of the building. Oops.

Thanks I'll try that. Talking about respawning, is it normal to take like 2 minutes at "creating character" and another 3 for "loading" ?

edit: To be clear, I never looked at the map till now. Thought I would find one IG .. but thats not really happening.

I don't know how I feel about this game, mostly because of the engine. This game would be incredible if not so janky all the time.

Your best bet is to use the map posted, locating yourself on it just after spawning (when you spawn you get your location on the botton right of the screen). Learn which buildings are and aren't enterable. Get into Chernogorsk or Elektrozavodsk, run around grabbing as much loot as you can carry from the enterable buildings. By the time you leave you'll have a decent weapon and plenty of supplies. This is all providing you dont get shot etc.

When i spawn i just head for one of those cities, usually elektro, i dont bother to be stealthy or hide from zombies, i just run through buildings grabbing shit before getting out and meeting my friends. Sometimes you can even pick up another survivor buddy on the way through.
.

I joined a UK server a bit ago and managed to group up with 13 other players. It was a blast. This mods at its best with large groups imo. I hope we can keep the gaf group going strong too. :-)

I'm not seeing a way to get my location in the bottom right of the screen.

So which installer (or version) or whatever do I need to install so I can play the Steam version on the GAF server?
Six Updater will probably be your best bet

I'm not seeing a way to get my location in the bottom right of the screen.

Literally RIGHT when you spawn, when the screen fades in, text will pop in Call of Duty style to tell you your current position relative to the map.

I thought I had joined the GAf mumble server, but it appears to be completely empty, so I assume I did something wrong. Any help to be offered?

Best place to find a map is a market. They're the green shopping carts on the dayzdb map.

So I finished my second play session. Got a bit better with the controls. I wandered around the coast, in the daytime, for a few minutes until I decided to follow a road inland. Came across a very small town filled with zombies. I have no weapon and just my starting gear. I said fuck it and made my way into the town because I really need a weapon. Crawled slowly on my belly into a couple houses. Zombie were getting so close to me. Nervous as shit the whole time. Found a rifle and some ammo. Saflely made my way out of the town and feel a lot better with a weapon in hand. Didn't find food or water sadly. Next time. Oh and I also saw a helicopter fly over. I was on US 38.
