I had a giant toolchest filled with thousands of Legos of all shapes & colors that I spent countless hours building whatever I wanted as a kid. But I never had an actual kit except for 6155 Deep Sea Predator. The Lego video games have reignited my interest in Lego toys themselves, and I've been browsing through all the really cool kits in stores taking a particular interest in some of the really cool minifigs out there. Which brings me to my next question, how is the Superman vs. Power Armor Lex kit?

I'm interested in all three of those minifigs, the Luthor power armor looks really neat, and it's fairly cheap. Would Legogaf recommend it?

I wish I still had my toolchest. :/

Yes I would recommend it. It's the only place you are going to be able to get any of these minifigs currently and the exosuit itself tends to hold together, unlike some other LEGO mechs. For $20 it's a great deal.
 
I actually never got into legos as I was a kid. Had to take the nephew to toysrus the past few days and it was nice looking at the lego sets. Anyone recommendations for a new comer?

I jumped back in with the X-Wing set and really liked it. Some of the creator sets are also great. You might want to hop over to this thread and check out the model being used.

It's $15 and is a lot of fun.

Will do, but it probably won't be for a week when the school holidays start and we have more time.

In other news, the LOTR sets are FINALLY at the UK store. Just got a handy email enticing me to further sell my soul to the brick god :)

Yeah, the treehouse is a great entry point rec; it's a nice unique set and very playable.

I like the cafe and vet clinic from the first wave also, but disappointingly they are a bit heavy on stickers. Fun sets though.

Actually you can get some of those minifigs as magnets. I know the Lego Store sells a three pack with Superman, Wonder Woman, and Two Face.

Yeah, but the magnets kind of suck since the minifigs tend to be glued together and aren't able to removed from the magnet.

But set really is awesome. It's an excellent purchase for $20.

You will not be disappointed with that set. It's cheap, quick to build, and solid. The 3 mini figs are all great. Furthermore, the power suit is great with other sets.

I've been exploring my options today on Bricklink and placed a few orders. The windscreen dilemma is still not resolved but I have a few options now.

My starfighter is coming along nicely, I've been building with whatever colours I have and some of the parts below are to finsih the colour scheme off. I'm going for a mix of greys and reds.

Just the backend of the body and thrusters to go before I start on detailing. As it stands it's 54cm long and 45cm at its widest (rear wings) point.

The magnets aren't glued. I purchased for my son a set of Toy Story magnets and Star Wars magnets. They weren't glued, just connected via regular Lego fashion.

So true. My daughter and I did Olivia's House a couple of weeks ago and have just begun the Butterfly Beauty Salon.

When it comes to sticker-time, I have to keep telling myself "These are her sets. These are her sets. Don't try and put the stickers on for her. OH GOD WHAT IS SHE DOING BREATHE"

So I'm pondering pulling the trigger on this and have been playing around with bricklink. People are right to say it isn't the most intuitive system in the world.

I have a question thought. If I have all the bricks I need in my wanted list and purchase some of them from a store are they automatically subtracted from the wanted list? Or do I have to manually take them off the wanted list.

It would be nice if it did it that way but I suspect I won't be that luckly.

Slave Leia fig I have is one of the old magnets where the magnets are embedded in the legs of the figure. Have quite a few Star Wars figures like that, and love it.

Ewwwww, dude. Used pieces! Ha. I've actually ordered a few a "new" pieces that looked anything but; I think it's more of a psychological thing for me. Good luck with the MOCin'!
 
That Lex Luthor set is great and the only one of the DC line I'd class as good value.

Speaking of which - finally pulled the trigger on the Dynamic Duo Funhouse:

I grew up with Lego, I must say it does help build ones creative and cognitive thinking. You try and think of new things to make, how to build it, how to make it look appealing, etc. The only problem, I ever, ever had with legos has been stepping on the pieces. Until now I know no greater pain then that of stepping on lego.
 
Been toying with finally biting the bullet and getting the Dino Defense Headquarters set. Mainly because I want the dinos.

But now I am debating between that and The Batcave. I should just save for a much bigger set and pray I get a sizable chunk of money for my birthday so I can get lots of sets.

That's the worst thing about BrickLink and what turned my first order into a very expensive learning experience. I now have a system to manually keep track of what I have ordered so I can remove it from my lilsts.

I clean them when they arrive so I don't mind too much. I have a group of sellers I use for most of my stuff and they have high standards.

For me, the only attraction of the Dino sets is the dinos themselves. The buildings, vehicles and minifigs are lacking. However, the dinos are worth almost the price of the set alone, and they don't seem to be decreasing in value on Bricklink.
 
New info out for set 10229 Winter Village Cottage. Apparently the set will be 1,490 pieces (which dwarfs every other WV set) and priced at $99.99USD.
 
Grabbed one of the new Friends sets for myself at one of my local Lego stores. Was kind of shocked how much the new garage is...120 bucks?! Oh and they finally have the Zombies set in, I'll have to pick that up soon.

Oh and do people buy the old boxes for Lego sets? I had a bunch in my closet and I really don't see the point of keeping them around. May unload them on craigslist so I can grab some of the new summer sets.

Both are on clearance at Walmart. Regular price in Canada is $60 and $50, each is ten bucks off. For the Apple Tree House it would actually be cheaper (slightly) if I waited for a 20% sale at Toys R Us on Creator sets, they're due for one soon.

I like the look of the lighthouse as a built set but the house definitely would be better for experimenting with.

I also like the seaside house but that damn thing is $60 for some bizarre reason.

It was really busy today, so many kids and adults helped out so we got through the entire lot of tiles for the day and even a few more for people who turned up desperate to join in after they'd all gone.

I'm really enjoying working on this project, it's lovely to see so many people happy from what we're doing.

Can't wait for tomorrow, I didn't even want to take my break today despite the tiring work and blistering heat.

Sorry about that! I avoid buying used parts unless I really have to. Some of them end up being in a really bad shape (scratched, chewed or something) and worse, they are sometimes loose and won't hold well anymore - which was absolutely needed for this model to not completely fall apart while you're building it.
 
Currently in the Santa Clara LEGO store with my 10% off coupon. Should I pick up "The Zombies" #9465 or "Republic Striker-class Starfighter" #9497?

Fishpond is notorious for sucking, dude, so I'd maybe steer clear of them. I've only tried ordering Lego through them once, but they notified me a few days after I'd paid for the set that it wasn't even in stock. They refunded me with no problems, so it's barely a retail horror story, but I've heard worse, i.e. upwards of a month for shipping times.

No I totally understand. It would have been wierd to put it up as used.

After I realized how much I was spending on simple things like bricks and plates which are easy to clean, I switched over to used. The only pieces that are obviously used are the container gun dishes on the sides which I can't find new.

I realized the other day that I now look forward to going to the dentist for checkups because they give us extra toothbrushes. I already have an electric so they become LEGO / camera / NES cleaning tools.

Just like to add a further warning on fishpond.com.au - delivery times are NOTHING like they say, and if you have a complaint/question - good luck - they only accept letter/post.

Stay clear of them - they really do suck.

Definitely interested in seeing the process! Nice Project. How do people build this though? Do you give them a, say, 32x32 plate and a draft and they build that?

It's a 16x16 plate with plan of where each colour should go. The person would then go to a build table that has several bowls of bricks and then complete their tile and bring it to someone by the map to place it.

We allow 200 tiles per day to ensure we'll be able to stretch the project out for 3 weeks. The map will be completed on the 10th of August.

Hoping to be on the 6th row by the end of tomorrow :D

Not sure how much it is to Tassie but they have a flat rate of $9 for Victorians. Very good value if you stack a couple of sets together as it's the same charge. Paid $9 for shipping on the Minimodulars, Desert Skiff and Funhouse Duo which is not much at all.

I think it said about $12.50 to Tas which isn't too bad if I follow your lead and stack a couple of sets together.

You really can't go wrong with 12.50AUD for shipping, considering how discounted the sets are and how pristine their boxes and whatnot are, too. My dealings with S4M leads me to believe that they're a fantastic operator on all fronts. Go for it!
