Darksiders 2 new info! [one month away from release]

This seems like pretty hefty foreshadowing and I could totally see it or something similar happening. Darksiders ending spoilers.

I mean what else should they do with that awesome ending after Darksiders 1. I mean War summons all the other horse and and proclaims "No Not Alone"

Nah not co op but I can see a game *a very long game* where you swap between the horsemen and need to use all the skills gained from all the games in certain parts along with gaining new abilities

New interview over at N4G, they mention 4 player co op is a possibility for future games. I really hope not, the franchise isn't ready imo.

For me, coop instantly makes story of the game way less important. Other players fuck around on the playing field, skip cinematics and just want to progress trough the story faster and find better loot.

I don't say that i would not like Darksiders game with similar playing style like Diablo, four classes, one apocalyptic storyline with ton of combat potential, but story and Zelda style puzzles would have to be scaled down. I don't want that. Yet.

Wouldn't it be awesome if starting from Darksiders III your character progression from past game (like, if you still have a Darksiders and Darksiders II save), War and Death will have the same stats they had in those?

Nah, they just need to make coop game in the times of the great war between Nephillem and Charred Council. Four young "soon to be horseman" defying their leaders, saving humanity and causing the end of their race. You cant have more epic story than that.

But that leaves the DS1 ending open still

DS2 can close that ending somewhat. 4 player coop game doesn't need to be produced immediate after DS2, we can still have individual games with other 2 horseman.

I'm just saying it's a little silly to have a game with all 4 before each horsemen got their staring role. XD

Anyways... I wonder what fury and strife's transformed states look like.

I always imagined Fury as kinda like a cloudy or pure energy type transformation and Strife with a kind of Mech/Powersuit type transformation

Also this picture of Strife will always make me think of Bang Shishigami cosplaying XD

What!? Hell no! Darksiders III needs to be about the 4 Horsemen kicking the Charred Council's ass!

I played a demo of this at SDCC. I was sadly disappointed, as I desperately want to like this. There were some performance issues (30fps), but there could be last-minute optimization they still need to perform.

I hope they fix it. I found it quite sloppy in climbing sections - missed collisions and disappearing objects, AND tearing. Did not feel like it was by the same team.

Once again, I hope this was just some rough pre-release demo shite and they are still optimizing the shit out of it.

Sounds like demo issues to me.

Well as much as I think this is what will happen, I'd really like to see Strife and Fury get their due in their own games. I know a lot of people think that they aren't as attractive as War and Death are from a marketing standpoint, but I thing the guys at Vigil knows what it takes to make them just as varied and awesome from a gameplay perspective.

If they do go for the 4 in 1 approach to Darksiders 3, then I hope you get to choose who you roll with and each environment is able to be tackled in various ways. Sounds like a design nightmare compared to just making each area for each character specifically, but it could lead to loads of replayability.

New Darksiders II interview with Haydn Dalton [our hdn] can be found here @ http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2012/07/interview_vigil_games_darksiders_ii

Here is a quick bullet point summarization of the interview:
- One of the biggest things the team was able to carry over from their experience with the original Darksiders was how to approach the level design. The dungeons and overworld style has been done before in other game series like Zelda, but now the team has a good handle on how to execute it effectively, which means levels got done much more quickly this time around.
- The core level designers from the first game stuck around for the second.
- They’ve also learned a lot about how to refine good melee combat.
- Vigil’s gone even further than expected. They didn’t just take War, reskin the game, and call it a finished product. They rebuilt everything from the ground up for a new character: Death.
- “It feels more like Darksiders 2.5 to me.”
- The loot and skill tree systems were added on very early in development; they had wanted to implement them in the first game.
- Loot is tiered and tied to your character’s level, so as you get stronger, the loot gets better.
- Every piece of loot has a unique look.
- Skill tree system was fairly set from the beginning, with the only tweaks being where certain abilities were stacked and what was included.
- About the ability to feed your Possessed Weapons old items to grow them: “We just thought, ‘what’s a good way of’… at first it came about as ‘what would be a good way to get rid of trash?’ You know, the stuff you’ve got and you don’t really need it any more. We’ve given fast travel to the player now, so you can jump to a vendor, jump to a location, go there and sell it. But it is a bit of a hassle for the player. So we said ‘what can we do?’ We don’t want a player just having to drop everything into the scene or always have to figure out which ones they want to drop. So we thought, let’s just create an item [that] we can just dump tons and tons of items into.”
- Possessed Weapons have a very low drop rate.
- You can level up 20 times on a first playthrough, and to Level 30 on a New Game +. The level cap is designed to restrict some items to the New Game +.
- Each of the four Horsemen was drawn in preparation for the original Darksiders. Death was very nearly the main character of the first game, so it was easy to decide on him for the second. They wanted him to be agile based on his personality and design.
- Environments are designed around the different play-style: wall-running, beam-jumping, swinging, etc.
- Some levels are horizontally-oriented, some are vertical.
- Death’s adventure happens during War’s 100-year stay in the Abyss.
- What the other Horsemen were doing during that time hadn’t been established when they made the original game.
- Each of the Horsemen will fill a character/player archetype. War is a barbarian, Death is an assassin, etc.
- Future games may use co-op, depending on what people want out of the genre. It’s incredibly difficult to do good multiplayer with this generation’s tech without compromise.
- The Wii U version will still retain all features from other console versions.
- His favorite new feature is the loot system, as it adds a kind of play economy that’s compelling. Do you ignore enemies, or fight them for loot?
- Some loot is only available via sidequest (legendary items)

Here is a quick bullet point summarization of the interview:
Stuffs
D-amn! I can't wait for DS2. It's been two years since I've beaten DS1 and I don't remember the gory details of the story. I'm going to play through it again on Easy, just to get my fill of everything, which pains me, as I originally beat it on hard. And then off to play as Death!

Game is sounding more and more packed with content and variety. So glad that both this and Sleeping Dogs are getting out ahead of the holiday horde of releases.

So I just pre-ordered Darksiders 2 from greenmangaming, and they say the game will be available for download the 14th of August. The thing is however I live in Sweden (I entered my country correct during checkout), and the release date in Sweden is the 21st. Will I still get a key that works? Or will I simply get it later on?

It would be cool to get it on the 14th, but I just hope it will work with my steam account.

I'm in the camp who thinks each Horseman should get his own game, introduce each character.

It wouldn't make sense having 4 player co op when we only know how 2 of the horseman play.

Has anyone tried to preorder this on the THQ store? When I add it to my cart it only adds the game, season pass and Argul's Tomb DLC and not the Armour set or Metro 2033.

I did and all I saw in my cart was the game and the season pass. Either way, I'll take the free standard shipping. Capcom store also uses Digital River and I got Dragon's Dogma three days early with standard shipping as well. Hopefully that will be the case here.

Very optimized game [same as the first one] and Steamworks support for every copy of the game is confirmed.

So if I understand this correct, even if I were to buy this from somewhere else, it'd still have Steam Keys?

Yes that is the main benefit of a full Steamworks game. Sometimes games will only use steamworks features for the actual Steam version but every other copy won't register, but normal steamworks means every copy registers and forces Steam.

I preordered this in November (yay THQ store price error!) and have pretty much stayed dark on coverage since then. I have been paying attention now and the hype is making the wait so much worse...

Pre-ordered yesterday. A bit late but have so many games on my slate in Oct and Nov and that's not including over 20 damn games I bought in the Steam sale but hey no one plays those right? LOL

Yeah, first one ran great. Hopeful for this one too. And owning both a physical copy and a DD copy thanks to Steamworks is the best way to sell a game IMO. Was having some doubts because of Sleeping Dogs but day one for me definitely.

Will the OT be posted 2 weeks before release? (still kinda new to GAF)

Really stoked about the Darksiders II, especially with all your information you've been posting Dieh@rd, thanks.
