Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Personally, instead of staying up for the midnight launch and pulling an all nighter, im going to bed early and wake up early. I feel like Ill definitely enjoy and be able to play the game a lot more over the weekend if I am actualy well rested. Yup, id be lame

At least get up at 3AM to get your names!

But I am on board with that, actually. It will be tempting to jump right in (especially since doing so during the overnight hours means we can have the guild size increased when more people get on), but I think I'd rather not feel miserable or get too far off my sleep schedule.

I will probably snag my names and then go back to bed. Assuming I'll be able to sleep in the first place.

I dont even know what my name is going to be! Plus, with having a first and last name, I doubt the totally awesome (lame) name that i do come up with will be taken

My plan is to go to bed at 11 and wake up at 7, and then play all day. I honestly cant remember the last time I went to bed before midnight, so we will see if i can pull that off

Im trying to adjust my schedule, but I've been staying up past 4am lately. I want to be going to bed at midnight at the latest, so I get up in the morning and not after noon.

Though I may stay up late for GW2 just because I am so stoked to play. I honestly ignored the hype train up until the last beta. I kind of knew I was going to get the game, but I've been so busy that I just didn't think about it much. I feel like I took some crack for the first time and now all I want is more. :(

I really enjoyed the Asura animations even though I really don't care for the majority of their physical aesthetics. So I am really considering rolling my main as an Asuran possibly as a Guardian. I didn't get to play as a Guardian much, played mostly Engineer, but watching footage of Guardian play looks awesome and I have liked heavier classes in PVP before.

Or you could be following a FedEx truck in traffic and being in awe of the discovery as you slam into the back of the truck.

This is why I pre-ordered the digital version of the game - to avoid dealing with FedEx and risking that.

I'm tempted to just login to create my characters that I want, for the midnight launch, then go to bed after they're made. Knowing me though... I don't see that happening. I'll definitely try to though!

No way in hell is this game going live and I'm going to be able to sleep. That's impossible. I mean, I'm going to rush on and make characters to snag my names, then go back and remake each one to be the way I want... but I'm immediately playing some at that time.

Anything else is impossible.

With that said, g'night all! ;)

Using the same name I had in GW1, so no need to rush. I'll still be there at midnight though. Make my char, play for 2,5-3 hours and go to bed. And I'm going to force myself to stay with one character in the beginning, in some games altritis hit me pretty bad and I just kept rerolling instead of actually playing the game.

Wait you can remake characters? When was that added? How do I do it?

Dammit...I just learned that for Tournament rosters you can sign up by yourself and get paired with other people and don't need a full 5 person roster to do Tournament play. That would have helped instead of taking part in 8 v 8 crap.

What CPU are you running on? You may want to try out the beta nvidia drivers unless they have another driver release before GW2 hits. I was running an i5 2500K @ 4.2 and a 670 and while I certainly had performance issues I never had the game full on lock up on me. I did have the game chunk up on large populated areas but it wasn't terrible.

I feel for people with low to mid range rigs. They are probably gonna have some serious performance trouble for the first month or two depending of course on how well ANet gets the client running in this coming month.

Hot damn. I had the damnedest time looking for my post.

i5-2500k no OC + GTX 670 SC (Yes, the recall one, mine was special enough to work).
I'd already tried reverting my overclock on the card to complete stock as well as upping the power draw limit while it was stock. Upping the limit only seemed to delay the inevitable. I'm on the 301.42 drivers as well.

It really hit me as odd as other people were just getting lower frames whereas mine was like "Nope, not happening. You're not playing this game at these settings", which was unfortunate.

Delete it? Your name is saved for your account for 24 hours.

Oh. Thanks for the info I had no idea. This makes character creation so much less stressful.

Were you running anything else besides GW2? Have you tried deleting the game and redownloading it? These are the only things I can come up with because you really shouldn't have had any issues.

Can anyone help me with my HoM? Could use some gold to buy some minis, heck, a mini would do too. This is a little more challenging than I thought it would be, just getting to 11 for the Diamond Aegis, but I am actually having fun in the meantime. GW1 isn't as dated as I expected it to feel.

I had Steam running for sure, possibly Chrome, MSI Afterburner, and temperature monitoring software. I don't bother reopening much after I have to hit the reset button.

What I DID do to expedite the download process was copy everything in the Guild Wars 2 folder on my brother's computer onto an external then copy it over what little I'd already downloaded in mine. It let me play the game but I guess it potentially could've saved whatever settings were on his computer in the background or what not. I can't see the game being that way where it would remember the hardware it's on and what not but it's a possibility.

I'll re-download tonight to be safe though.

HEY! Don't let people know I was poor because I invested all of my money overnight only to have the market shift to where my investment was no longer profitable. :p

Just let me know who to send silver to ahead of time - I don't need an invite to the guild minute one but I will donate some change as it becomes available to me to increase roster size.

I generally have a "sink-in" time with new MMOs - despite going through the starting zone for Charr and Norn during the beta, upon launch I will be taking my time with final macro tweaks and key bindings, wandering aimlessly and basically moving at a reasonably "drink it all in" pace for the starter zone. People are more than welcome to act like goofballs with me - but save my limited spot early on for someone who will dive right in with guildies until we can pool some change together for a larger roster.

After my initial day or two of goofing off I'll become more useful to the guild :P

Guild size is 500 max, I don't think we'll reach that initially, maybe with alts?

Guild invites are account wide though, so technically those alts are already counted.

Hell, I would switch characters and it updated guild chat so I didn't even miss anything.

EU or NA guild?

I'm very tempted to buy the game.

GW2 guilds are game-wide, free from the restrictions of server or even region. You can roll on an EU server and be part of the guild; you can even "guest" on the NA server for all aspects of the game except World vs. World (which is server-based, so it doesn't allow you to represent servers that are not your home, obviously).

OR, you can roll on an NA server, even from Europe, as several GAFers did this past weekend with little to no latency issues whatsoever. That way, you can guest with EU players for PvE and sPvP, and represent GAF in WvW with an army of guildies at your side.

GW2 lets you be a part of any community you want (including multiple guilds, just not at the same time), when you want, with no restrictions... And no having to cough up $25 and abandon your current friends every time you make new ones, unlike some MMOs that also charge you a subscription to boot.

Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.

Has a midnight kickoff actually been confirmed for the 25th. I'd be happy if it was because that is 4 pm for me. Great way to spend my Saturday night.

Sorta. When asked about it a CSR responded that they're aiming for midnight PDT, but it entirely depends on if everything is in order in time or not.

I hadn't even thought about that Retro.

Just wanted to clarify...

You only get PVP ranks in sPVP correct? Only ask because you end up doing some PVP in WvWvW so I was just curious if that counted towards PVP rank in some way? Glory or the like?

Edit:

Nevermind... Found my answer in the wiki. I missed the part about the distinction of Glory and Rank as well as it saying it's only in sPVP.

Sound very nice, i will play this game only with GAF so i don't mind where to go.

Thanks for the explanation!

I just buy the game!

Despite my better judgement, I have decided to go for 50/50+GWAMM. Maybe I just felt inspired today.

In either case, all I need for this is Fissure armor. Looks like DoA/UW speed clears for me. (unless some kind soul decides to provide ecto freely)

I didn't even think about that, lol. I'm in the EU, but I could make the GAF US server (Gate of Madness?) my home server so I could WvWvW with a large portion of the guild, and just guest on the GAF EU server for PvE and PvP. You can do everything except WvWvW when you're guesting on another server right?

I hadn't even thought about that Retro.

That's because you haven't been diagnosed with terminal Alt-itis.

I just buy the game!

Awesome. Community thread is over here, details on guild organization, Mumble server address, etc.

Register your pre-purchase code and start downloading the client now (instructions here). This is the same client you'll use at launch so you might as well get it now before the rush.

Stay a while. We need another moderator, Tekno is mean. He makes us pose for pictures with our pants down and call him Uncle Goodtouch.

Feedback was good from several EuroGAFers who rolled on an NA server. And that was with Gate of Madness being a complete clusterfuck. I don't want to tell anyone where to play because I'd feel like a Grade A asshole if later down the road there are latency issues that affect your enjoyment of the game. But if you want to give it a try, it seems to be working out.

NA server is undecided. Titan Alliance made Gate of Madness unbearable and they acted like a bunch of pricks during the BWE, asking people to stay out of WvW so they could play. We don't want to deal with that sort of thing, so depending on where the large communities go, we'll make a decision. Officers have been bouncing ideas around but we won't know for a little while. We'll make a big deal about it when we pick a home.

And yes, you can do everything but WvW when guesting. Since WvW is actually server vs. server, they don't want a bunch of people playing on servers that aren't their own and doing crap like stacking a rival server so they can't get in or all jumping ship to the winning side.

I meant in terms of WvW numbers and players on our server, as i doubt many U.S people will be coming to Gandara to play often.

I'd guest over there for PvE and sPvP, no question about it.

We would be honoured to have you, Sir Retro. :)

I hope some of you EU players will be doing a fair bit of WvW. I don't want to regret not picking the US server!

I'll try to organise as many WvW gatherings as possible, even if we have low numbers to start with we can just focus on the smaller supply keeps etc. I myself will be doing my even share of PvE, WvW and sPvP.

I still have a little trouble getting my head around the idea that we can play with anyone we want regardless of their server selection in this game. I know I spent over a $100 on server transfers in WoW, just to stick with friends or family as they moved around. I had quite a few friends re-locate to play with me too. I dunno how Blizzard will get away with charging people $25 to play with their friends from here on out.

Raiding supply camps was surprisingly the most fun I had in WvW over BWE2. Don't get me wrong, defending a keep against a horde of enemies is fun too, as is a well-placed attack at an enemy weak point and just rolling it over. But just jumping into a group with 4 people and just pillaging the shit out of the enemy's supplies was fast, fun and surprisingly productive. We were getting so much XP, Karma and money, and because we always had supply on us we were able to splurge and buy/construct stuff like Arrow Carts. Even if we weren't going to use them, we could just drop them, build them, and aid in the defense of a tower without having to be there all the time. We also helped throw up rams and trebs as we saw them. Just having supply on hand, and not clinging to it like we might need it later, was a big deal.

I dunno how people can enjoy zerg vs. zerg. I guess those are the same people who want to roll on a high pop server so they can feel safe in a group and win all the time without putting too much effort or thought into it.

100g? isn't that a bit expensive? but it's a one time fee?

May not be the final price, but yes it's a one time fee. As Piranha said though, it's not something everyone needs to have. It's visible to everyone on the map, so it's intended to be more of a leadership thing. Not everyone will want to blow their money on that, but some people (hardcore WvW players, guild leaders, etc.) will. And it seems to work, as you can call out where you're at and people can find you. Squad Chat seemed hit or miss though.

Also, they have said Squads will work in PVE, so it will probably come in handy for large world events (like the entire Orr zone).

We've been keeping an eye on it. As Fluffy mentioned though, it's not very accurate. For example, Gate of Madness is only showing 4 guilds, only one of which is in that repulsive Titan Alliance. In fact, out of the 10 guilds that make up Titan, only 2 are on there; Brotherhood (on GoM) and Unlimited (who are actually listed as "undecided").

Often in the beta while fighting mobs's, they would become invincible (or evade every attack) and would return to their starting spot and completely heal up. Is this a bug or some kind of anti kiting mechanic? It happened alot when playing range with my thief as I would kite enemies into traps and such. But after you kite them far enough they would often just reset and fully heal even though they were being attacked the entire time. Happened constantly in the beta.... wondering if it's intentional mechanic or something

I noticed the "invincible" thing if I was trying to shoot a mob and they had no direct path to me. That's intentional, and it works both ways; a mob up on a cliff can't shoot you if you can't get to them.

All MMOs have leashing, but I did notice it was much shorter this go around. Maybe it's because I was playing an Engineer this time instead of a melee class (which, despite dodging a lot, doesn't require much kiting), but I did notice it.

However, I don't think I saw any instances of both happening at once. I did see mobs leash back to where I found them, healing along the way, but I could still injure them as I gave chase.

I'm sure a few guilds in TA probably experienced the same shit we did on GoM and aren't going there.

Another issue with the server selection list is that I'm fairly certain the game will release with about 20 NA Worlds. There will be 4 or more added for launch relative to what was there for BWE3. The EU world count may increase as well. So don't be surprised if some of those guilds move elsewhere in an effort to avoid queues.

These appear to just be short little clips of ArenaNet staff reiterating and showcasing bullet points from the Manifesto video, but with more examples, confidence and a firmer footing. If the Manifesto video was "This is what we want to do" or even "This is what we've done but we can't talk about it yet", these videos are "We did it, this is happening, come get some in a month" (Colin's "Guild Wars 2 has the most replayability of any MMO ever made, period, doesn't even come close" would, in certain academic circles, be considered mighty strong words).

A month. After years of waiting.

Nerd Chills.
