Wreckateer's decent, ended up buying it last night and played through the first two areas.

Love the leaderboard chart but man I wish the Physics weren't faked.

They may very well be sufficient, but I don't think they're necessary. There's no practical reason not to include both gamepad and Kinect support.

I don't think I used the word "sufficient," the controls aren't merely "sufficient," they're excellent.

I think the practical reason is that it would break the leaderboards. It would also be boring with a controller, because the game is quite slow to enable the player to add aftertouch and stuff, with a controller you'd just be sat waiting the whole time. And the splitting rock is easier to control with Kinect than it would be with a controller. Fact is that the game is more fun with Kinect than it would be with a controller, and so the Kinect is completely justified in this case.

I mean, the argument works both ways. There's no reason not to include Kinect support in Call of Duty but that wouldn't make it a better game and that doesn't mean you should do it.

Wreckateer is a game built from the ground up for Kinect. It works and is fun.

I just can't see how it would have been better with a controller.

Some reviewers indicated that they missed the precision of a controller for difficult shots. So it's not like that control style is lacking for this style of game. It's purely a Kinect marketing decision.

It's purely a "the game would be totally different if designed with both in mind" decision.

Actually, to say it should have controller support without you know actually playing the game with Kinect is kind of silly.

Game works really good with Kinect, was ground up Kinect, and is one of the best uses of the Kinect I've seen yet.

The 1st game that my kids had zero issues playing so far on the thing... and it's fun.

Game would be stupid using a controller.

Wreckateer was built with Kinect in mind. Some of these shots take 15 seconds in the air before impact. The first thing we'd hear if this game had a controller option is "it's so boring waiting while the shot is in the air".

Speaking as someone who a) has played the game and b) owns a Kinect, I feel a lot more qualified to hold an opinion about whether or not a controller would work for this game. It's easy to look at a screenshot and say "that should work with a controller" but your argument holds no weight whatsoever.

Whether it's possible or not, playing with a controller would make the game worse, and therefore it's completely logical that the option for it isn't there.

Dunno where that date came from (I imagine a placeholder on Xbox.com though) but that game doesn't have an official release date yet.
yeah, i don't exactly put a lot of weight on the release dates on wikipedia as anyone can edit it. i was just searching online and happened to find wikipedia at least had a release date on this game. but yeah, i could go add that halo 4 xbox live arcade game is coming out tomorrow on there so its not the best resource for release dates. for the most part, though, its been correct.

It's not my argument. It's from someone else that played the game.

Also thrown into the mix to further complicate things are floating markers that empower attacks, as well as levitating points that reward players for firing their shots in different, less obvious directions. It's sometimes hard to hit these well, with the Kinect occasionally proving to be a hindrance when precision is the goal, and we'd often eye up our unused Xbox 360 controller, wishing we were able to pick it up and play for the more complex levels. Usually the Kinect controls didn't get in the way, and created a unique gameplay style, but other times it simply hampered our accuracy in a game that rewards players for precision aiming.

Also, I think the Kinect requirement has limited the audience, because the game doesn't even have an OT here.

I don't think it'd have an OT here even if used the controller, XBLA OTs basically don't exist. Deadlight doesn't even have one. No one's claimed Dust yet either, may have to do that myself because that's DEFINITELY getting an OT one way or another!

I don't think it's really limited the audience, either, it's just found a different audience that isn't on GAF. GAF doesn't have any interest in "Angry Birds 3D," regardless of the control input, but your average Kinect owner probably does.

I was wondering where the Deadlight OT was. This isn't really saying much of substance, but I think it's a situation of it ending up an Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet-style disappointment, or an incredible piece of work.

ITSP was disappointing? In what way? I, personally thought it was great and am hoping for a sequel.

I found it pretty disappointing, as well. I'm not really sure what else they could have done but the game is just so boring. I don't even know why, I just can't stay awake when I play it. Didn't really like how cumbersome the whole thing is to play, either. For a concept that's so simple they didn't half complicate it with all those add-ons that you have to keep changing between.

The little rocket minigame where you have to navigate it through a winding path to hit a switch was awesome though. The inertia on it was so satisfying.

I'm liking it so far.

It would be hilarious if MS screws this up.

While the franchise has a history of being great wrestling games, this is like the perfect excuse to buy dumb shit for your avatar.

That's where FameStar comes in. There'll be tons of outfits to choose from that you earn in other games.

Imagine how cool it would have been if it let you use your props though, my frying pan would beat EVERYTHING.

Yeah, it'd probably be perfect of they added an extra 2 hours of backtracking.

Or an extra two hours of fresh environments. When I was watching the review, I thought the reviewer was being serious about going through a dilapidated Microsoft HQ circa 1986, or whenever. That would've been awesome.

Deadlight isn't doing anything for me, has the same shitty look Limbo does. Most people may like it, but I'm not most people. I can't stand that silhouette art-style. It doesn't seem like its worth 1200 pointh to me.

Only thing I'm excited for is Hybrid from Winter of the Arcade. I'd rather get Tony Hawk HD on PC.

Yeah, they actually don't look anything alike to me. Deadlight has silhouetted characters but depends on natural lighting and earthen tones, while Limbo has the dark, gothic filmic look of a Bergman film. Which, you know, are considered some of the most beautiful films ever made.

Holy crap it lives! I've long given up on that game.

Psst, Microsoft/Spike: if I could use avatar marketplace costumes in FPW, I may actually be motivated to buy some of them.

Unfortunately I think a lot of developers take blanket comments like "I wish this game were longer" as invitations to artificially inflate the length of their games. Its always nice to want more, but you've also got to be realistic about a $15 game.

After fire pros last bad showing that made me so sad face, I hope the extended dev time they've taken with it has made it into the fire pro we love.
I still wish they just made a HD version of their old game and let me edit the crap out of it. Oh well.

I see. I, personally, didn't find it boring but I can understand why some might have. I also didn't have a problem with the powers, I just used the hotkeys.

Ah well, maybe it's not for everyone...but I'm sure the same won't be true of Deadlight. Looks incredible.

...

Oh wow, FPW lives. Was sure it had been quietly canned after that laughable trailer. :O

...

Hmm, not sure I trust IGN enough to take their review of DL seriously, will wait for more trustworthy sources to chime in.

Regarding the IGn review, he mentions that it's th best SoA title...so is it safe to assume that he's played Dust and wasn't impressed by it? Has the same reviewer reviewed the other SoA titles.

Played the demo of Wreckateer yesterday night. No way the game will be better or even fun to play using a controller. I did not like it that much with Kinect, but those saying that it would be better with a controller are nuts.
