This is so great. I'm impressed with the planning & forethought that is going into this project.

I think it's a wonderful endeavor.

Finished most of the exterior details of my Sweet Shop modular MOC. I am limited in pieces for making the structure larger, so I had to make a half building. Also short on SNOT pieces, so did what I could.

I need to do the sidewalk still. I don't have anymore dark gray tiles, so trying to figure out how to decoratively do the sidewalk. I also have yet to do any interior detail to the structure, not even the staircase to the second floor.

I planned it as a candy store, but it wound up looking like a Dairy Queen.

With the Corner Florist and Cafe MOCs

OH NOES! SHELOB ATTACKS!

Another question about where to buy for an Aussie, where is the best place to get mini figs? shopforyou.com.au doesn't seem to have much of a range.

lol - Ron Burgundy approved!

And Phonicle, all your modulars are fantastic looking, but I think the red one you just posted pics of is the most impressive. The size and coloring fits a candy shop just right me thinks.

As far as my knowledge goes, I would say that Bricklink is your best bet for minifigs, Jables. I've ordered quite a few through Aussie vendors, with zero problems, so I'd definitely recommend it.

On another note, I caved. I bought the rather mediocre Wolverine's Chopper Showdown for the rather awesome minifigs. I completely forgot that Deadpool was included. SOEXCITE!

I got a second box of Blue Roadster to rebuild my Blue Pupster but I can't figure out how the body goes together. Actually I forgot how I made the middle face too, lol. I should have taken more pictures as I disassembled it.

I just got 6912 too, so I hope we use that for a contest.

Don't be like me and completely forget about building the actual chopper.

Ha. Actually, I can do one better than that, leng jai. I reneged on the order. I'd added it to an existing order from a Belgian vendor, thinking that altogether, the weight would still fall within an affordable shipping cost bracket, but alas, it bumped it up 25 euro. Balls. Maybe later if I'm feeling especially frivolous with my cash.

Picked up Star Wars Republic Frigate for $75 tonight. About halfway through, and really cool build so far. Not a fan of prequel/Clone Wars stuff, but this was such a good price for a well regarded set I hate to bite.

Will finish it tomorrow after work, but so far it is rather fun.

Um'd and ah'd over that set for such a long time and eventually opted to not bite. At that price, though, it's definitely worth it, but my lust for it died long ago.

Well, I successfully justified running out and buying the camper >.>

They had the seaplane, first time I've seen it, and I very nearly bought that one too while I was at it

I have enough wing type pieces to kill a man, but a lot of the other parts in it were tempting. Especially the quarter cylinder pieces for the engines. You can make some pretty cool things with those. :) Have a cool idea for another modular using those, but will have to tear down one of my other buildings to make it eventually.

And so it begins... I'll be picking up my first Lego set since I was a kid tomorrow. Reserved the Monster Fighters hearse at Argos, will be picking it up in the morning. I'll take a photo when its built!

My MOC isn't nearly as visually appealing as PB's sweetshop, but I've been working pretty damn hard on it!

Went through about half a dozen more expensive/complicated storage options before deciding tupperware and plastic shoe boxes are definitely the best way to go for a large collection.

...yes, we build too

Organizing is the 800lb elephant in the room for me. I'm currently breaking down all my sets that are in boxes, shifting them over to zip-loc bags (organized per set) and storing them in large tupperware bins. As I like to save the boxes, I am folding them flat. Eventually I will have to go back and start sorting out all the sets by piece type and buying a lot of sortable containers. Since I'm on my way to 100,000 pieces, this will be no small task.

It is a daunting task, but just as rewarding as any other Lego project! :)

Between what I have set up, all the Friends stuff and a few bagged bits I am probably a little under 5,000 pieces away from having a home for everything.

100,000 though, shit, I wouldn't even know where to begin. I don't think I even have half that many.

I have toyed with the notion of having all my old 80s sets in separate sorting since many of the pieces are discolored and really tight connections (not to mention gray was slightly lighter back then), but realized that it would be much easier in the end to just integrate all my newer sets into my older pieces. Would make MOCing easier. I do need more storage bins and will get a bit more detailed in some sorting. I do know I will have a separate container for all the tan cheese slopes from Tower Bridge. Any other color would get lost in that pile if I ever integrated them. And looking at Brickset, I have an estimated 39000 pieces. I need to remove some sets though, because learning that an old bin of sets went missing means I am missing about one to two thousand pieces or so.

Anyways, I stayed up late and finished the Republic Frigate. Very cool build over all, particularly the body of the ship. But it is rather fragile when you touch the ship almost anywhere. I like that they built in a retractable handle to pick it up and move it, but that does not change the fact that touching it nearly anywhere else makes it feel like it will break apart. Also, the landing feet do not keep it stable enough. It looks fine just sitting there, but god help you if you touch it. So wobbly.

Also, the mini figs suck. Not a fan of Clone Wars, so the two random Jedi and two Clonetroopers do nothing for me. But it does come with a Yoda figure, which is VERY cool to finally have. And I have a few more lightsabers now.

But, for less than $80, this was a steal for all the pieces. Lots of really cool pieces for MOCing in there, which is the main reason I got it. I was thinking of using all the quarter cylinder pieces to use in a Microbrewery Modular eventually. I do not have the bricks to make it and keep my other modular MOCs, so I will have to sacrifice one soon. Or just order another modular for parts and just use a lot of that.

Short version of Republic Frigate: get it only if on sale. While there are some neat building techniques in it, the fragile nature of it and lame (sorry Clone Wars fans) figures put it into the "meh" category. But, it does have a nice variety of neat pieces, including quite a bit in dark red.

The set is on sale for $83 and change at BN stores now, which is where I grabbed it. That price for over 1000 pieces is pretty damn good.

I picked up the Republic Frigate last month when BN first put it on sale for $83. It's a great deal at that price, and the time to get it is now, because the Star Wars cap ships always go up in price once they are OOP.

I do love the big ships, but the version I really want to get is this one from 2007:

Sw2So.jpg

Look at all that glorious red!

Also need to get the Venator and am waiting on a new version of the Imperial Star Destroyer.

No, just a random find, but I am a fan of the original, so yeah this MOC is amazing. I just stare at it, trying to figure out the construction...

Our local Meijers had a Lego blowout sale. All items were already as much as 50% off and all sets had an additional 25% off the sale price.

Long story short, my wife came home last night with a dozen new sets including Harry Potter (smaller hogwarts and Dobby set), Star Wars (v wing, jedi shuttle, another bounty hunter ship, darth maul's ship, and clone war trooper pack), Alien Defense Force (mother ship for 25$!), PotC (mermaid/lighthouse, escape from somewhere with 2 carriges), a creator set (orange motorcycle), and a couple of others I can't remember off hand. She paid less than 150$ for everything. Just a stupid deal.

I'm on vacation right now and didn't get pics before we left, but the stack of boxes is almost waist high!

The Venator was a great looking ship, and the ships are what I love most from Star Wars. I too am wanting a new Imperial Star Destroyer. I missed out on that last set from a couple of years ago, and it is one of the greatest ships in the saga...I mean trilogy.

And yes, the red is glorious.

Oh my god. Another one? One day your house will have no furniture or decorations except for the sprawling modular metroplolis of your own design. Please leave room for a computer so Lego GAF can have pics.

Just the tables. The problem is that I dont ever want to disassemble the modular buildings, but I tear down nearly everything else. Making the buildings is fun I think, but I keep trying to think of ideas for another one that are not in the official line. I got the microbrewery idea when I was staring at the Republic Frigate box, debating whether or not to buy it when it was on sale. Just thinking of what I could use those massive cylinders for, and giant containers of beer seemed like the logical thing.

Or maybe I was just really wanting a beer and it sounded good. :)

Spotted the Friends Summer Riding Camp at Toys R Us today! Took me (and my daughter) completely by surprise, as it still isn't available at the Lego store or even the online shop. Looks like you can get it on Amazon but not for anything close to MSRP.

Gorgeous set, but that one's gonna have to wait 'til Christmas. ; ;

Sent Tedesco! some minifigs this week and I realized I have a few extras that I don't need. Ideally, I'd like some Castle or Kingdoms-era dudes. Especially trolls and crownies. I'm willing to go one-to-one, as long as they're in really nice condition with weapons and armor, etc.

I have:

Series 3:
Baseball Player
Mummy

Series 7:
Jungle Boy...

Not the most exciting stuff, but I'm looking for some cannon fodder for my fantasy MOCs, so I'm not asking for too much. PM if you have interest. I'll also swap for some bricks!! I'm looking for a brown 2 x 2 plate, some 1 x 1 light blue gray or dark blue gray tiles, dark blue gray slopes, or light blue gray or dark blue gray modified bricks with a stud on one side. I can also use some blue transparent bricks, 1 x 2s, some clear transparent plates, or plants. Anything but flower stems. I got a ton of those on pick-a-brick. Gracias!

Grabbed the Quinjet tonight:

The minifigs. A great assortment, including the exclusive Black Widow and Iron Man Mark VII armor. Thor is available as a polybag (which I got last week), and Loki comes in a few other sets. The Loki figure is very cool though.

Loki's chariot. Meh. Who cares. This is not why I bought this set! I did not place any stickers on the set, so it looks a bit plain.

THIS is why I bought this set.

There are a few cool interior details, but nothing too amazing. Just a few seats, storage area, and a fire extinguisher. There is also a drop down module with a drone to shoot out.

Major props for "Swooshability." Anyone on here that gets ships for their swooshability, this is my new favorite. The Star Wars ships are swooshable, but make fantastic display pieces. This set though, all I want to do is swoosh it around and play with it. This set has swooshability set to 11.

The build is fun. There are a lot of nice pieces in here. The set feels incredible solid (except the wing tips).

OVERALL: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great, and exclusive, mini figs. Nice pieces for MOCing later (if I actually do take it apart), and swooshability off the charts. This was a fun set to build, but VERY fun to play with after.

And as for that Republic Frigate I posted about earlier, I added pics to the short review if anyone is interested. Not good pics, but pics all the same.

I didn't realize that the UCS ISD was that large. It's shorter than the SSD, but much "taller". Not sure what the shuttle is... it's not the Imperial Landing Craft... a MOC I guess?

Holy shit, the Death Star looks tiny in that picture. Makes me want the SSD that much more. LOL.

Looking at it more, the ISD looks too large. I don't remember it being that large compared to the other major UCS stuff. Maybe it is the perspective.

I think they made an Imperial Landing Craft MOC out of the UCS Imperial Shuttle. Would love to find some instructions for that.

Someday the UCS ISD and the UCS Falcon will be mine.

Wife took a pic before we left. That's a lot of Lego!

Oh man I hate you so much. What an amazing haul!

Anybody here have the Scorpion Pyramid from the Pharaohs Quest set? I have the Sphinx and really like it and thought I might want this one too. Just wondering if it's a good build or not. It looks cool but I wonder if most of the pieces are just plain and/or mostly in the big ass spider it comes with. It seems like I can can get it under what it was at retail on ebay.

Those are the holy grails for me. I remember staring at the UCS Falcon in a store for so long, and debating about maxing out my credit card to secure it all those years ago. Ugh.

And yeah, looking at the pics, I think the SSD will be the next big purchase. I must put off getting much of anything for a while to secure the funds for that. I could get R2D2 UCS and Pet Shop for less than the SSD. But the SSD is so massive once done...so huge and intimidating.

UCS ISD = 37" long x 16.5" tall (including stand)

UCS SSD = 49" long x 10" tall (including stand)

Falcon = 33" long x 8" tall (no stand)

Yeah - I think the ISD and the Falcon will be my tax refund gifts to myself for next year.

Both height measurements are with included stands.

New Mac will be my tax return gift. I am crossing my fingers to get enough money for my birthday in the next few weeks to put a sizable dent in the SSD. I keep going back and forth between getting Pet Shop, R2D2, and something else (Sopwith, or saving for Haunted House) with whatever money I get. But the sheer size of the SSD makes me want it. I can get more bricks for the money with the other sets, but it is Darth Vader's damn flagship! I MUST HAVE IT AT SOME POINT! My wife will have to live with it when I finally cave and get it.

I think nicoga has the pyramid but he's banned at the moment. He's had good things to say about it, iirc

edit: Yes, he has

What was the MSRP on the pyramid? $110 on Amazon, which doesn't seem too bad for a dc'd 792 piece set. I bet it was $100.

I wouldn't mind having that, honestly. I was super-tempted to buy it when I first jumped back in but wasn't sure how it would fit in with other sets. Hmmmm, do I want that or Hogwart's?

edit: looks like many of the Pharaoh's Quest sets are below MSRP. Hmmmm. The scarab looks neat...and the cobra...

Actually the dark-haired Jedi with the yellow stripe on his face is Quinlan Vos, a very popular Expanded Universe character from the Dark Horse comics. It's the only minifig of the character that exists or is likely to ever exist, so I would hang on to that one. It's exactly the kind of fanservice thing that becomes valuable years later.

I bought that set for my girlfriend when it was new because she loves Egyptian stuff, and I'm pretty sure I paid $100 for it.

Yeah, it was $99 MSRP. It seems like you can get it around $80-90 new on ebay. Even less used if you want which seems good. I got the Sphinx set for $35 or so shipped a while back which was a great deal. I really like the series.

Aside from a Technic set I got for parts for a kitbash and a few minifigs, this is my first set in years:

u0R1a.jpg

$20 is pretty damn crazy for this, here in Sweden, but it's Lego Gandalf so I don't mind. I would love to have a Lego Boromir as well, but not getting Moria anytime soon. Also, I'd pay ANYTHING for a Eowyn/Witch-King and Gandalf/Balrog set.
