So what counts as legitimate whining? Is 'we are paying some tax to host a man who wrote of his low opinion of our country in his memoirs and clearly cares so little about the UK that he has put no effort into learning even a minimum of information about it'?

Because I am pretty salty about that tbh.

We make millions of cars a year, mostly for domestic consumption. But American built aircraft are still in high demand throughout the world. (They are arguably the best in the world)

Once you slap a Rolls Royce engine in yes ;)

Can we all play nice now we have identified who the trolls are and can safely ignore them?

The UK already fixed the only problem the Olympics was having, a private security firm not doing it's job(not surprising to me), and the army coming in to take over security. Being one of the best and most elite armies in the world means security is now under control. I've been following the situation pretty closely and that was the only thing wrong with the olympics. Romney needs to get better advisors, as he was obviously not informed of the whole situation, and bragging about talking to the head of M16(or MI6 not sure) which is a big no-no. Overall his "relations" with our UK ally is already broken at best.

Absolutely. Go forth with the wise words of Paxman ringing in your ears...

"It is a mark of self confidence: the English have not spent a great deal of time defining themselves because they haven't needed to".

Yup, the $1.5 trillion in exports is mostly Jersey Shore merchandise.

China, Mexico, India? Christ are we really having this argument.
Yes, I know we make a lot of stuff, the larger point is this is a dumb convo

That's all because of colonialism.

Yeah, let's do thisssssss ;p

And the industrial revolution that began in Britain led to that colonialism and the emergence of the modern industrialised world. You're welcome.

I imagine it would be like Bush. Lot of Brits hated Bush, called him dumb, their papers derided his gaffes. I don't think anyone in the US cared less and the UK still loyally followed the US into Iraq.
The UK government did that, not the people. The labour party paid the price for their actions by being booted out of power during the elections. Also, Bush was a source of amusement but Romney is dumb in all the wrong ways.

lol romney can start a war between usa and uk,imagine what would happen in global politics if he gets elected......

Incorrect, Tony Blair and Labour forced the UK to loyally follow the US into Iraq.

I would suggest that the vast majority of this country's population will agree that the war should have never happened. And Blair's legacy is forever tarnished by that blind loyalty to George Bush.

It really does rub me the wrong way when people point to the fact that the UK does not control an empire any more as some kind of indicator that it's going backwards. I consider the fact that the UK relinquished control of the empire to the people of the countries we stole to be a stride forward.

And as far as I'm aware, we have very healthy trading relationships with the countries we used to treat like shit, so everyone wins :D

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
You know, in order to make amends for my countrymen's idiocy, both as larger public figures and Gaffers, I would be more than willing to send a UK Gaffer decent American beer.

edit: Holy shit, $400 to ship beer to the UK?

Indeed, what do people want us to do?, go and plant a flag in some country and take possession of it, so we can say to the world.'look, we're still fucking hard, we still matter, respect us, or your next'.

When I was in NYC I went to a pub in Greenwich, besides having the best ribs ever they had a 5 page menu just for Beers from around the world. There is a place like it in London that does the same. What did I learn:

That the UK, US and Australia all have some amazing microbreweries and we should all stop drinking the shit we normally buy and drink Little Creatures, Coopers Red / Green, Brooklyn and the like.

Only do this if it's a Sam Adams

I still want Chappelles Sam Jackson Beer to be a thing, along with him showing up and yelling at me as I sip.

There is such a thing?

Yes. Let's not start about beer. Please.

Think of the beer.

Well, craft beer anyway.

What the fuck is this shit, have we really turned this thread into a UK vs US pissing contest. Both are great countries and both have their fair share of idiots.

Well, that's the American way.
smh

It's so unwise to comment on Olympic preparation. Have we forgotten that China wasn't coming together in many ways but then pulled off what everyone says was a great event? Countries don't let themselves fail at stuff like this. In the end they throw enough money to solve all preparation problems. Every time.

He's not very observant or reflective if he makes comments like this.

Lol, this is great point.

I have heard the phrase "Empire in Decline" so many times. Is it really bad that the UK no longer has colonies?

And you carried on slaughtering them after we left...

I doubt *he* has slaughtered anyone.

I'm an English nationalist so I believe that there is such a thing as The Nation and that it's the most natural structure for States. What pisses me off is that crap that people spout in the name of national pride. *You* most likely did not win your country's wars. *You* did not win your country's sporting victories.

Haha Romney really is a a complete fucking idiot. Anyone who votes for him should be ashamed of himself.

Wow, and there was me thinking you might actually be mature and worthy of debate, thank-you for saving me the effort.

Wow I missed this one. Your earlier reply to my comment on that page was a joke, a complete non-sequitur, that proved my point. I destroyed you, as the US would if it went to war with the UK. :D
