Lol comments like this make me lol so hard. I mean I understand people like different things but isn't there like a standard of good? Like no one calls chocolate icecream or thanksgiving dinner dreadful but every now and then you get this guy lol. I almost wanna say music has an effect on people and the shit being pumped out these days just puts everyone in a bad or odd mood subconsciously. Maybe it's being done on purpose.
No. What planet did you grow up in? That's his opinion, and this is your opinion.

And in all honesty, I'm offended as a music listener that you have to ask "what happened to good music." We're in the age of the internet now, "music" that is catered to your liking is just a click away.

Best thing about great music is that it will always be there for you. I was a huge alternative rock fan during the 90's since the 00's haven't been too good on that front I found myself going backwards and appreciating older music and genres from the 50's-80's. With the incredible backlog of great music you never have to run out of great stuff to listen to and discover.

OP laments not being able to find "good music", then links a trite, overly sentimental, boring as shit, obviously manufactured for mass consumption pop song.

What were you expecting, really?

And Blood Mountain is possibly Mastodon's weakest album (i still love it though).

You became older and out of touch.

Older yes.

Out of touch, no.

I have these things called kids and I'm force fed top-40 and Disney garbage on a daily basis. Much to my own horror, I can sing every word (if forced at gunpoint) to Carly Rae Jepsen's, Call Me Maybe.

I know what the kids are listening to these days.

I'm doing my part of being a shitty parent like all the rest by making them listen to rock/metal from the 70s and 80s every time we load up in my stupid mini-van that I was forced to buy because of them. Its a little trade-off we had to make. I had to buy an old man vehicle to haul them where they want to go, so in turn, we start the ride off with a little, 'FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK, WE SALUTE YOU'. Then a little Black Sabbath, maybe take a ride on Ozzy's Crazy Train, a little something from Master of Puppets, and if they start crying, they get some Appetite For Destruction.

There was some just a few days ago...

Your opinion of good music is not necessarily everyone's opinion of good music though, so any answer is kinda moot. There's some excellent stuff to come out recently, it just might not be to your taste? :)

Edit:
Great minds etc etc.

So you listen to children music and now think you understand all current Music. lol

It's still around. It's just not necessarily popular. I do recommend however that you listen to this album:

This is part of what I mean. Almost anyone you talk to will tell you music had a really good span in the 90s maybe early 2000s. Not saying it was bad before then it was just consistently good. Now music sucks but because it's been on a decline for so long shit music has become popular and acceptable.

There's way more music outside of top-40.

If anything, now with the internet, you ARE out of touch if the top-40 is the only thing you listen to in terms of modern day music.

I understand current top 40, pop, American Idol and Disney garbage perfectly.

Anything that I have to go digging for - then no I don't understand it.

I don't have time to go digging and that's the problem. 20 years ago, I didn't have to dig for good music, because I could turn on the radio and listen to it.

Its seriously like the word opinion is non existant to you

There's plenty of good music around today, in a sea of more shite music. Back in the day, there was plenty of good music around, except it wasn't so often lost amongst shte like the song you linked to

imo, needless to say

And I don't see how its acceptable for you to say there's no good music these days, but unacceptable for me to say that the song you linked to is not good. They're both completely subjective opinions, except yours is a ridiculous blanket opinion which is in all probability based on fuck all

I'm 42 and listen to plenty of new artists from today. If you stopped looking for new music, then you're a calcified relic and deserve your nostalgic myopia.

It really doesn't take much time to find music outside of the top-40 on the internet. In many ways it's just as easy as turning on the radio (if not easier).

You typing replies in this thread takes more effort in comparison to finding fresh new music on the internet.

when your parents fight and then your dad ends up going to a hotel for the night thanksgiving dinner can be pretty dreadful

lol

Seriously? You'd be hard pressed to find something mainstream that has instrumentation like that today. There's nothing pop about it. It's has a damn orchestra of violins for god sake

We had this exact same thread 2 weeks ago.

Basically, the internet and mp3s happened. There's more good music being made than ever in history, but it's not played on the radio. Now there's pandora, last.fm, music blogs, cheap as hell amazon mp3 sales, and tons of other ways to find new music. If you don't want to put in the minor effort to find it, that's your loss. Enjoy listening to Carly Ray. But if you put in a fraction of the time into finding new music than you do to posting on gaf, then you'll find that there's a wealth of amazing music still being made today.

Junk thread. I'm not into music as much as some people I know but finding music is simple using Pandora. It's the easiest way to find artists in a genre you like then from there you can research new artists you haven't heard of before.

This.

Paul fucking Krugman is almost 59, and the guy just got into indie a few years ago. Here's how he put it.

http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/01/galaxy-of-music-personal-note/

Meanwhile, my very belated discovery of Arcade Fire punctured my dour baby-boomer belief that nothing good has come out of music since I turned 30 or so. So I’m now on the lookout for post-1990 music I like (hey, I’m serious about that baby-boomer stuff), often finding it by following recommendations from videos of other music I like. As you may have noticed, my tastes run very strongly to indie bands — I don’t think I’m going to fall in love with any of the mega-commercial artists, although you never know. Also, I like live performances a lot better than highly produced videos.

And every few weeks I discover a new band I really, really like. It’s wonderful — and it’s providing some much needed relief from the dismal stuff that is my business.

what's more annoying than people saying music isn't good anymore is the people asking for good music recommendations. "I said good music dipshit!"

The op has a valid question

Music on the radio does really suck nowadays

Well especially in NYC

Z100 is pretty much unlistenable now as opposed to 10 years ago
