Darksiders 2 new info! [one month away from release]

Out of here negative nancy.

I agree it is a bit worrying that they have only been showing PC footage recently.

dont get me wrong i really want THQ to succeed volition is one of my favorite developers so darksiders/vigil needs to do well to keep them financial solvent so that volition can keep making dildo bats.

They heard developers talking that their staff can probably [if they put time and effort into planning] can do 20hr speedrun of Darksiders II. :D :D :D :D

It's probably doable faster if you focus entirely on speed. We've done speedruns on individual dungeons (and we've done a few of them VERY fast!), but planning a speedrun on a 25+ hour primary-story game is a bit different. There may be (and by may, I mean, IS) an actual leaderboard stat for Fastest Completion Time... and Fastest Nightmare Completion Time. So I guess time will really tell =).

My question for Hdn/Tragic is:
Is it possible to finish the game totally ignoring all the sidequest and using lvl1 weapon? :D Tragic mentioned that if you know what you are doing with combat, you can pretty much not recieve any damage during fights. :) I really wonder what is the lowest possible char level for finishing the game...

You won't be able to keep your character level low - you get EXP just doing the main story quests. However, you can ALWAYS use low level gear. There is nothing stopping you from using the starting Scythe for the entire game. Keep in mind, the way the enemy health curve advances is pretty intense. You will get to a point where low level weapons will barely even be scratching enemies. Great for combos. Not great for actually killing.

In this podcast casters mentioned that in first town we can fight one Maker [tutorial challenge fight], and that he probably requires you to be lvl10 with lvl10 gear to beat him. But, if you know what you are doing, you can beat him at lvl2 with lvl2 gear. That... just shows how much combat engine owns.

This is definitely true. Every time I do a play through, I fight him at the lowest possible level. There are multiple enemies that you can get to early... but if you focus on what they are doing and take your time, you can absolutely kill them.

LOL!

Anyone else feel like James Cosmo is YELLING those tweets? Looking at that picture just makes me laugh. Maybe it's just me.

I completed Darksiders 100% on 360, but I'm getting Darksiders 2 on PC. Maybe I can download an equivalent save for PC or something.

Just read: http://icrontic.com/article/darksiders-ii-and-the-triumphant-return-of-pc-gaming

"On the question of graphics options, I was told by both Fitzloff and Everett that the PC version will have a fully tweakable config file as well as the standard in-game graphics options for various resolutions, settings, and options. However, if you want to get really deep, the config file will be there."

"The game is shockingly deep. It’s far more than just a timing-based button-masher. There is a solid RPG element with character leveling, almost unlimited, procedurally-generated weapons (akin to Borderlands), armor, and other items. You can customize your build to a great degree. There are two major talent trees that open up a lot of character customization and playstyle preference options. The puzzling element is Zelda-quality (and when we compare Darksiders II to Legend of Zelda, that’s a compliment, guys!), the dungeons are massive, the environments are insanely huge (and gorgeous!), and the voice acting is really good."

"To make things even more interesting, there is a massive amount of content. On the scale of the game, the developers estimated that there will be 40-50 hours of gameplay in here. After playing through about 10 of that and not even feeling like I had started the game proper, I can believe that. The world map is massive and we only got to see a tiny part of it. The developers estimate that, even a Vigil employee doing a speed run would take about 20 hours to complete the game. “In a world filled with free-to-play games, we wanted to make sure that if you spend $60 on a game, you’re getting a $60 game.” said Fitzloff."

I 100% darksiders on the 360 but sold my 360. :( Going to be getting the game on the PC. I guess I can't take advantage of the save game feature.

If I could pick up my collectors edition from Best Buy at midnight, I would.

Looking forward to all the awesome that has been layered on top of the original game.

A bit off-topic, but is there a way to run the first game in higher resolutions than 1080p via config file or anything? I like to downsample, but it doesn't show the resolutions available to my machine like most games do.

I just read the first few pages of the novel and goddamn, I need to get my hands on this.

Money, why don't I have you?

Anyone able to get this to load? I've been trying for over an hour on multiple browsers with no luck.

I'd actually like to see Strife take on a fighting style similar to Gun-Kata in the Equilibrium movie. Would make for some awesome fast paced close quartered gun combat. Could take some inspiration from The Raid Redemption as well.
Ah equilibrium, what an epic movie. So underrated. I put it on my underrated list with Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick

They should make it where you can select any of the four from the start and they each have their own 10 hour campaign with their own dungeons, locations, enemies, etc. After you finish all 4 in unlocks the final chapter.
I'd prefer sonic the hedgehog 3 and knuckles where the levels are the same but each character has different abilities and plays the levels differently. Saves development time by not having 4 different level designs.

You guys are really trying to convince me to not wait for the Wuu version. :\
What's the point in waiting specifically for a version on a platform you don't even own yet? Misplaced brand loyalty?
If you have even a barely decent PC, don't expect the game to be any better on Wii U, anyway.

So if I enter The Crucible with the starting Scythe can I have what would be practically a training mode? Please say yes.

Why do you assume everyone wants to play the PC version? I have a GTX 570, still getting the PS3 version.

If I had a 570 I'd get the PC Version, my PC doesn't even meet the minimum requirements for Darksiders 2 lol

With a combat this good I'd really like to get a 60fps version if I could. I'll definitely buy it again once I upgrade my pc.

He seems to be interested in the exclusive features of the Wii U version. Not much has been confirmed, other than putting the inventory screen on the GamePad. We don't know yet if game can be played on the controller and/or if the map can also be put on the screen. Vigil may even have other things planned that we haven't thought about. The developer did admit that putting the inventory screen on the gamepad is just “one small part” of their work on the GamePad controller. There likely won't be any graphical changes, so if that's what some people are waiting for then, they'll probably be wasting their time.

surprised at the optimism for this game, live demos at e3 looks really unpolished and performance was underwhelming.

not to mention with THQs financial problems its natural for even the studio to be affected and feel the pressure.
Yeah, I'm half expecting reviews to report that it's seven hours long and ends out of no where.

Yea but I don't have a PC compatible controller, nor do I want to lug my giant PC tower to the living room everytime I want to play.

This sucks, I had a Darksiders save on the 360 but it was stolen and now I will get this for the PS3.

I hope is a not a badass weapon or Gear, Vigil, you heard me?

:(

If I had a capture card I would do Combo Videos so freaking hard.

Do it with your cellphone. This game deserves a bigger community. Before I joined GAF (when I played the first game I wasn't a member) there was no one for me to talk to about the game. It's so sad when you find out something as awesome as Crossblade Canceling and have no one to talk about/teach them/pick up new stuff with them.

There is a save file on gamefaqs for the PS3 version, but I don't know if that would work.

Because if you have a possibility to play what will most likely be the best version of the game, there aren't reasons to not to.
Your choice strikes me as weird, but I'm not going to argue with that; on the other hand, the point is that at least you already own a PS3, you aren't waiting for a PS4 version while planning to buy one someday in the future.

Most publishers apply some soft of embargo on their reviews, so they can shape when and how things are released to the public, but, I believe Ds2 should be out with everyone now. Some may hit later, because print naturally has longer lead times than the net.

The only review I know of being out there, is the 93% from ConsolPlus (germany). Plus, Play Magazine in the UK is out any day too.

@haydndalton

I think ours is out in a couple days too. Read both of the ones mentioned and can say that the key points are mostly the same.

Is it possible to still juggle, knockback, stagger enemies with low level equipment? I mean, enemies will still fly into the air even if you basically do 1 damage?

We are looking into doing a quick pre-release video that shows some combos... just for the combat guys. Nothing too fancy, but more of a "oh, you can do stuff like this" type thing.

We'll see how it goes!

I built my PC like four years ago, I doubt it can run any of "today's games" as well as a console-optimized port. Besides, my computer's half way across the room, built into my desk, where I use it for "computer things." I am not interested in wiring it to my TV.

More of a console gamer anyway, and I want things to play on my Wuu when I get it. Especially with Miiverse and all that, I'll be getting as many of my multiplats there as I conceivably can in order to be benefit from that network, any graphical perks, and fancy controller times.

I had Madden preordered, and I was somewhat unsure about this game. I played a bit of the first one but traded it in before I finished to get something else. I just recently rebought the first one but haven't had time to play through it yet. Still though... I'm probably gonna cancel my Madden preorder and pick this up. Pretty exciting stuff here.

I wonder if the save file needs to be completed. I beat DS1 on Xbox and recently double dipped on steam. I wasn't planning on beating the game again any time soon though...

Of course there are reasons. I'd have to buy a controller. That's extra money there. I'd have to disconnect my PC tower from my office and carry it to the living room every time I want to play and carry it back since it's our main PC.

Not worth it.

I'm personally waiting for the Wii U version too. I have way too big of a backlog at the moment so there's really no rush for me. I'm interested to see what they do with that version.

I just wish they would put out the first Dark Siders on the Wii U as well as I haven't played that yet either and it would be nice to stick with one controller and also to get whatever added feature the saved game adds.

My save file is ready, but I knda wish i hadn't rushed the ending and got all the armor pieces as I have a feeling that that might be something that would carry over.
