Darksiders 2 new info! [one month away from release]

Of course there are reasons. I'd have to buy a controller. That's extra money there. I'd have to disconnect my PC tower from my office and carry it to the living room every time I want to play and carry it back since it's our main PC.

Not worth it.
Of course, if you are not willing to make ANY effort to set your PC setup as a viable "gaming station", there's nothing to talk about.

I just wonder what was the point of boasting about your 570 then. It may be a good GPU, but it clearly sleeps in your case completely unused, at least for gaming purpose.

“In a world filled with free-to-play games, we wanted to make sure that if you spend $60 on a game, you’re getting a $60 game.” said Fitzloff."

I greatly appreciate this attitude and I wish more developers would have it. Lords of Shadow was also over 20 hours and while some complain of some areas lagging I enjoyed most of my time playinig. If I can get 40-50 solid, unique hours out of this I will be extremely happy.

Lol the hell? Any effort? I mentioned the 570 to show you an example (I have a capable PC but choose console versions frequently). I game on it in my office. I do work on it, I have it hooked to a fax machine/printer. I don't want to lug it to my entertainment center every so often to play and then hook it back up to my office.

Most PC games I buy are PC exclusives that would work better with a keyboard/mouse. Mostly RTS games with an occasional exclusive shooter. I'm not going to go and spend more money on an extra controller.

Makes sense to me. Spend $300 on a graphics card. Refuse to spend $15 on a wireless controller dongle and pay more $20 per game to play shittier console versions instead.

Edit: oh wait, I didnt see that you have your PC hooked up to a fax and printer. If I had my gaming pc hooked up to a fax I would never game on it either. That would clearly make no sense.

Please leave shinobi602 alone, his PC is obviously to far away for him to be comfortable in transferring his gaming from office to the big screen. Its his choice, and in the end, nothing is wrong with playing PS3 version [maybe he has friends on PSN with whom he will establish item trading connections].

Can you imagine NEXTGEN Darksiders game? :D

I got it for much, much less than $300 :)

Again, there seems to be a misunderstanding every time I explain it for some reason. I don't want to transport my tower every damn time to my living room and hook up to my HDTV. The way I've done things has worked fine for me. I don't mind paying a little more and sacrificing some performance I don't give a shit about, for comfort.

Any particular reason for that?

Was considering selling my 360 as I'm strapped for cash, but looks like I need to find some spare change and play this before I sell it. My PC is a PoS so it's not an option.

Hey Tragic, can you answer if we have some moves with enough invincibility frames so we can use them during combat to take no damage if timed right during the fight?

He mentioned either here or on the official forums that skilled players will be able to decimate everything in front of them and take no damage.

Also...love love love what Vigil is doing.
I have enough faith in the game that I already preordered it few weeks ago (and it's quite rare for me, as I almost never preorder anything) but to be honest I'm a bit skeptic about the random loot thing.
Can't really say I like the idea too much, for action adventures like this.

Well, but that could be done just by keeping your distance, attacking at the right time and then backing up with some dashes when you know the enemy will attack, I'm more interested about moves that will allow me to stay fighting the whole time, just using it's invincible frames to dodge the incoming attacks.

It made SotN a bad game right? *I know that's not exactly random but the concept is the same idea*

The loot system is there to customize your characters play style. Not to hold you back. I would even as far to say that the gear that drops is simply there as means to upgrade your possessed weapons. So instead of having a few weapons through the game that you mod with little gems or someshit that drop. In this you mod your shit with actual weapons you can use and test effects with.

This also gives a bigger sense of power increase as well as you start to do greater and greater damage the further you get in the game.

It's not a bad thing if done right at all.

Hey Tragic, can you answer if we have some moves with enough invincibility frames so we can use them during combat to take no damage if timed right during the fight?

There are moves that make you hold your ground (so to speak) that have a very high threshold for being interrupted. If you time it right, an enemy that would normally interrupt you will hit you (and yes, you still take damage) but your move will still come out.

Additionally, Dash attacks benefit from the initial invulnerable frames of the dash. While there are no actual invulnerable frames on the move itself, you can always dash TOWARDS someone (smaller window than side/back) to go through an attack and THEN hit the attack button to perform the Dash attack.

Well, but that could be done just by keeping your distance, attacking at the right time and then backing up with some dashes when you know the enemy will attack, I'm more interested about moves that will allow me to stay fighting the whole time, just using it's invincible frames to dodge the incoming attacks.

This is 100% possible. You can weave in and out of enemy attacks all while keeping your combo meter going. There are also a variety of Wrath moves that can supplement your attacks when you need to take a breather (which also keep the combo meter going). The biggest element though, is being able to attack, attack, attack, dodge, attack, attack, dodge, dodge, Deathgrip, dodge, Teleport slash, attack, attack... and all have it count as one combo. Sure, you are taking a split second to dodge out of the way of an attack, but you can fluidly go right back into your attacks once it's done.

In fact, as mentioned, you can actually attack, attack, attack, (enemy attack incoming), attack, attack, DODGE FORWARD LAST SECOND (going through the attack), press Scythe or Heavy for their respective dash moves... and keep going.

Tragic, did you ever tried to play some extended sessions by using only secondary weapons? :D No scythe.

You totally can, but the Scythes are just so well-rounded! Just using Heavy, for example, would prevent you from using the Cyclone Crossover (which is performed by Scythe Button to Heavy Button). This is one of the most useful moves in the game cause of the speed in which it comes out, the damage, and the hit-arc. That being said, if you WERE going to give it a try, you might want to go Melee as your secondary. They are ridiculously fast, they do a ton of damage, and you can dash/gear/wrath/reaper/horse(outside) cancel at almost any point in any attack.

Hopefully you'll enjoy the loot we have with predetermined stats as well. These are for killing named bosses, beating specific quests, or finding them in hidden locations. Even more important (and maybe to your liking) is the fact that you can customize possessed weapons to have the stats you want. You want something with Health on Crit? Feed that to your possessed weapon. You want something with huge strength? Feed all your strength items to your possessed weapon.

We tried to avoid having 'useless' loot. Everyone has played a game where something drops and they don't even bother to pick it up. With possessed weapons... why not pick it up? Everything you feed to the possessed weapon adds EXP to it. You can always sell it and use the money to purchase an item with specific stats just to feed it to your possessed weapon too.

The loot system is there to customize your characters play style. Not to hold you back. I would even as far to say that the gear that drops is simply there as means to upgrade your possessed weapons.

Almost EXACTLY this.

That being said... we still want players to get excited when blues and purples drop. Heck, I've been playing the game for a looooooong time, and I still get excited when a new purple drops. Why? Cause of the potential it holds... either for being an upgrade, OR having a stat on it that will juice up my next possessed weapon.

Nice! Can I use the invulnerable frames from dashing and then stick back to neutral and attack or only with the dash attack I'd be able to escape the incoming attack?

Also, it's nice to know that there are ways to keep the combo going regardless of taking damage, that's really interesting. Sometimes you just don't want to interrupt your combo to dash around a bit and would happily trade a bit of your life to keep the combo going. Sure, the combo meter will still increase if you do so, but it's not the same thing...

I simply don't like the idea of doing busywork gathering a ton of stuff, chosing between infinite slightly variations of what's essentially the same item.
I like my action adventures (and even my RPGs, for what it matters) with a limited number of very well definite, carefully balanced, wisely placed and highly specialized and differentiate items that reward you with that particular extra power after specific circumstances, when you accomplish very specific goals.

There are -in my opinion- better approaches in the effort to differentiate the loot and add variety. Like "there are three different sets of armor on each "tier" and they all act very differently, feel free to use the one that fits your style".
The "Diablo-like" approach a la "Here are twenty axes with slightly different stats or secondary effects, make your pick" is boring for me.

I know there are different schools of thought about this topic, but I definitely don't find "loot whoring" either compelling, entertaining or rewarding.
Just an annoyance on my way to enjoy the game, most of the times.

EDIT: also, it doesn't help that random drops very often encourage compulsive farming. When you can improve your stuff almost indefinitely, you feel like you are never completely satisfied with where you are at the moment.

Turning your brain on for half a second isn't that hard. It's there to simply customize your character. I don't know why you want a more limited experience. The loot system in this isn't like diablo as I already said how it works. Think of the weapons as gems and the possessed weapons as your "core items"

Possessed weapons have a level cap on them for how many times you can upgrade them and if you have issues with compulsive farming kicking in on you on a game that has a bunch of side quest then... idk what to say. Farming for a perfect weapon for your play style shouldnt even be a second thought til new game plus I would think. Even then there is an item trade system in place so you can trade with friends that play opposite styles from you. Then even if you don't have people to trade with respect cost isn't that bad from what they have shown and you could just respec into the best gear you got if you really wanted to min/max

Is there a new policy of free passes on gratuitous insults on NeoGAF?
Cause I clearly missed that memo.

Insult? I simply ment the style that Darksiders 2 is doing rewards creativity thus thinking. You are asking for a more relaxed hand holding afair which doesn't require that little bit of extra thought. You seem to be a little on edge today >.</

We knew that people may be concerned about too much loot looping (going in and out of the inventory menu). To help with this, we did a couple of things:

- In game compare; you can compare an item in the scene, with the one you currently have equipped
- Quick equip; you can equip an item directly from the scene, no need to go into the inventory.
- AutoCollect; you can set an option to just collect everything. This way, you can concentrate on fighting, finish the fight and then see how any of the items you've collected, are useful.

Also, if you're good at combat, it's totally possible to concentrate more on basic melee and occasionally pick loot up. It's harder, but more skilled players will be able to that.

Reminder for the new page, SAVEGAME FROM DARKSIDERS 1 WILL BE USED BY DARKSIDERS 2! Details are unknown, but all 3 platforms are supported.

Shit, that is awesome if
when Death fights Shadow War
he would have the same abilities and move sets that you unlocked in the first game.

Tragic/HDN will this have 3D support on pc through Nvidia or ATI?

The first game had pretty awesome 3D. The only thing that was off was the reticule during the panzer dragoon section.

Bah, I got the original game when it was console-only and I'm going PC this time. I DO have the PC version of darksiders 1 because THQ gives it away in cereal boxes now, but if it requires a save file that actually did something past the first hour then...well, I guess I can just download one. Yay for PC?

I definitely got my 60 dollars worth (Amazon did give me a 20 dollar off a future purchase code though for pre-ordering, which made it sweeter) with Lords of Shadow. Can't wait to get this.

Sweeet thanks. I am rebuilding my HTPC this week and should be able to play this in 3d. Have to decide if I want 3d 720P or 1080p.....

I'll be getting this for my Xbox I think. It looks amazing.

Do I have to play the first to understand what's going on in this one? I don't really want to bother with the original since this one looks superior in every way...

You could watch a lets play on youtube :P

The story for this game takes place side by side with some events in part 1. It's basicly wtf was death doing while war was doing his thing. Of course playing the first one will give better insight on characters and such

DS1 (first 10 mins): War is called to Earth. Apocalypse happens. Everything gets blown up. Finds out he wasn't called (cause other horsemen didn't show up). Iron Council banishes him for 100 years. Council let's him go back to Earth to prove his innocence or die trying. (that's the beginning of the game... in a nutshell). Something strange is afoot at the Circle K!

Game on!

DS2: Death = "WTF? WAR WOULDN'T DO THAT. I'M GONNA GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS!"

Game on!

Going to post this here too cause this thread is more active.
Playing now for the second time and there is a large blue bar covering the right side of the screen and Ive searched around and people say it's not a problem with the disc, anyone know of any solutions?

Btw, if that doesn't look like some DMC level of combat, I don't know what does.
It's like DMC combat at the base level without incorporating stuff like style switches, step cancels, air mobility options and secondary weapons like firearms. That's really where DMC shines and I am hoping DS2 has stuff on it's own to really flesh out the combat (like the abilities in the skill tree). The dash under is very reminiscent of Trickster level of combos in those high level DMC videos.

I'd assume that the DS1 save is for playing as War in The Crucible or something like that.
Agh, I need money, I'm loving the first game, and the second looks better in every way, but I will not be able to get it day one :(
