Hyperbole makes shitty arguments.
The authors of the report are assuming Romney's tax cuts would be revenue neutral, meaning they'd have to be offset by eliminating tax exemptions. I haven't looked too deep into the report yet, but I haven't seen any mention of the possibility of using further spending cuts to pay for Romney's proposed income tax reduction. If that is not included as part of the analysis then I think it's probably best to ignore this report.
On the Distributional Effects of Base-Broadening Income Tax Reform said:Spending cuts are excluded from the analysis. As a result, tax rate reductions are wholly financed by the most progressive possible combination of cuts in available income tax expenditures. If spending cuts were used as a form of partial financing for the rate cuts listed above, the precise distributional effects would depend on the composition of the cuts and which programs and government functions were reduced. It is likely, however, that cutting spending would make the plan even more regressive because government spending tends to benefit low- and middle-income households more than tax preferences do.
How is that hyperbolic? Most posts in this thread are exactly that. That is, the argument that the rich don’t pay enough taxes, the middle-class / poor pay too much, and that is why everything is in the shitter.
If anything the article itself is hyperbolic, in that Romney’s tax plan makes no mention of any tax increases for the middle class at all; and the report makes the assumption that the middle class must end up paying more taxes to make up for lost revenues, even though Romney’s actual plan says nothing of the sort.

People who try to stifle the creation of new threads in favor of keeping the discussion contained within megathreads are annoying.

The study comments on this.
Seriously. It's an election year.
According to the laws of modern physics: it is work.Pleading for handouts is not work btw.
I also dislike that.If you have a politically diverse range of Facebook friends, right about now your wall looks like mine. Madness.
Most people on here owe their jobs to a "rich" person. And yet all you want to do is take and take and take some more. Well the cow is running dry come January and people will have to get off their butts and get to work. Pleading for handouts is not work btw.

Oh well, I'll just go yell at a cloud or something.
I thought that was the case. Regardless of the political implications I think the most interesting part of the report are the figures they calculate for what could be raised by eliminating certain tax exemptions. I am looking forward to reading what they came up with.
All taxes need to go up. I applaud him raising taxes on middle class, but the top 10% should go up as well.
He won't be elected, though, and Obama won't raise taxes on the middle class.
EDIT: I am a middle-class republican, but have nothing to do with today's current crop of retardation emanating from the word holes of mouth breathers like Reince Preibus and Grover Norquist.
In my country parties are forced to let their plans be calculated by an independent organisation, that way they can't sell bullshit.

This plan sounds great, my taxes will be so low when I join everyone else in the 1%
He's not raising taxes on the middle class. This study is ASSUMING he will have to, to keep his plan revenue neutral.

Oh... should have known. Raising taxes, however intelligent and obvious that may be, is politically toxic right now.
Support for President Obama's proposal to increase taxes on households making more than $250,000 per year is 58 - 37 percent in Florida, 60 - 37 percent in Ohio and 62 - 34 percent in Pennsylvania, the survey by Quinnipiac/CBS/The Times finds.

Romney wins handily when it comes to the economy
Simple. He's not Obama.How, exactly?

Really? He's more of a shitbag than Obama? This election is about one thing and one thing only: lesser of two evils and Romney wins handily when it comes to the economy which is what this presidential election is all about.
