I loved Jellyfish Princess. <3

I enjoyed it greatly... and the soundtrack was so fitting! Loved the music.

drink it up bb.
I aim for this to be me by the end of the year/in six months time. (Working on my legs/butt/back as well of course :P). I'm up to ~154lbs now with 160lbs being my short term goal. Sometimes when I see a hot guy picture now it motivates me to train more than it arouses me. A pic of Chris Hemsworth is all you need to push out a few more reps! lol

anyone have any ideas what i could use for my feet. remember that gif of that guy doing that leg move with dat ass? i need something to glide on carpet without catching fire.
You mean the .gif of Tom Hardy training, right? I think for carpet you could use two baking tins or something else metal or glass/ceramic. Just don't let anyone see you, hehe. If you don't have any weights you should do some jump squats and tuck jumps too. Just try not to die.

Well I took the sciences again recently out of my own free will. I'm going into a Vet Technician program so I need some science but nothing major like a Doctor would need. And its not 8 years of it ;)
I'm actually coming up on finishing my eighth year of science now, it only really hit me recently that I've been doing this thing for so long...

You also won't have the same heavy load of debt that most docs graduate with. :)
...and the great thing is, when I started, Uni fees were free so I'll have my PhD in a few months and no debt. Yay!

I'm glad you guys eventually found something that you're more interested in doing, because the best position to be in is loving your work and still finding it interesting several years in. I guess I'm lucky that I never had parents that pushed me to do anything particular, but then again perhaps they just didn't feel the need to push me as I wanted to be a molecular biologist when I was 12, no joke. I blame too many Michael Crichton books.

you know to be honest, very ripped guys arent necessarily more attractive to me. I like guys that look.. natural. Anything overly done like muscles, hair, clothing just turns me off a bit, like I dont want you to flaunt I just want you to be a real person. Maybe im not making sense, but thats my type anyway, handsome next door type of guys.

I tend to agree with you on this point. Chiseled is nice, but I kind of prefer the not-terrified-of-a-cheeseburger look with some good musculature. On the other hand, I'm a bit of a hypocrite on this as I've been putting on weight over the last year (muscle) in the hopes of pushing to a six pack.

You guys, two reminders:

One, I have been letting these occasional hot men diversions pass because they have not taken over the topic and you guys get back to discussing other things relatively soon. Secondly, you need to make sure that the pictures you are posting are not too risque or inappropriate or this won't be possible.

I scrolled past all the hot men just to see how long it took before someone called us out. Mumei: the most polite mod ever.

I'll be so jealous if you get that. I've been training for over a year now and I think I've come to the depressing realization I'll never look like that. Damn genetics.

I did this too. :P

Oh gawd

3 months to Seoul - 3 months to Seoul - 3 months to Seoul ç_ç

(right in time to finish my p90x lol)

Forever shall my type now be described as the 'not-terrified-of-a-cheeseburger look'. I couldn't be with someone who doesn't eat!
I've been putting on weight over the last year (muscle) in the hopes of pushing to a six pack.
I think the last time this topic came up (In the old thread, aww), you and I were posting about it. How's it coming along? I've started doing a lot of leg raises from a pull-up bar for my abs, it's starting to work already (at least I'd like to think so :P). Most ab workouts are so boring though.

I'll be so jealous if you get that. I've been training for over a year now and I think I've come to the depressing realization I'll never look like that. Damn genetics.
Well funny you should say that as I used to think the very same thing, and at the start of the year I even had a day where I was just asking myself 'What is the point?' and 'Why am I even doing this?'. But then I figured that my energies were better put into motivation to push myself more and work harder. I've been training for a few years now, but it's only in the last year that I changed from doing circuit training (aiming for fitness and tone), and moved to body building. Whilst you're right, it can be harder to put on muscle when you're naturally thin or stocky, it's not based purely on genetics. It's genetics plus your environment, so what you eat and how much you push yourself can get you where you want to be.

I've seen some of your pics so I can say this with prior knowledge - you've already done great work, your chest and arms were looking great from what I saw.

If your gains have slowed down, that's a sign that you might need to change up your diet or your workouts. How often do you work out, and do you vary the weight you use, etc?

(I'm going to guess you've spoken to Ricky about all this stuff already, but it's no harm posting it here too so that other people can have a say too.)

For comparison: I train 4 days a week. On each of those days I do leg raises, pull ups, squats and bench presses. Then I'll do either chest, shoulders, back or arms. Ricky came up with this workout and I think it's great - it means we do core every day and get our heart rate up before we work on individual muscle groups. We always have a rest day or two where we don't do anything bar maybe some cardio.

Speaking of which, I also cycle a lot so make sure you get in a lot of cardio. On a good week I'll cycle to work 3 days in a row, which is over 60km total.

I eat wholemeal cereal for breakfast, 2 chicken breasts on wholemeal bread with fruit and yoghurt for my 2 lunches (with oat cakes, nuts and cereal bars as snacks), a tuna sandwich when I get home from work and chicken wrapped in bacon with rice and fruit/veg (usually includes spinach, mushrooms and or sweetcorn for good levels of vitamins and minerals) for dinner. That's about 160-200g of protein a day. Do you think you're getting enough protein?

I also usually only drink water (between 2 and 3 litres a day), or sometimes milk.

Going to Berlin for a weekend with my cousin. Never been there before Apparantly there's an International Beer Festival going on the whole weekend with a 2.2km long beer mile, with 2000 different kinds of beer and 18 stages with live music. We didnt even know that, lol. Not getting drunk in a city I don't know though, but I'm definately going to taste a couple of beers I've never heard of ;)

Well, I won't look like that guy because I'm not Asian.

There are some things that are more reliant on genetics than not. Abs are pretty much a gene lottery since the biggest thing that prevents them from showing is body fat and how your body stores it is pretty much all genetics. Yes, one could reduce their body fat % to like... 4, but that's not really realistic for the majority of us and by no means an easy feat in-of-itself.

I've been exercising for a number of years now, mostly falling into the common beginner traps for the first three or four. The last year definitely has shown the most improvements since I actually focussed on diet as well. The problem is, I'm already mid 180 almost 190 lbs and I still don't look like that guy who I doubt is anywhere near 200 lbs. I don't want to get heavier so I won't be getting much bigger at this point either.

And now that I'm on my own again, I can't really afford to keep the high caloric diet I had. Maybe once I start working but the whole grain food, high protein and low fat meals are just too expensive for me to afford. I'm definitely sure I eat enough protein in a day (I have about three scoops of whey as well as some sort of meat for dinner).

I've started weight lifting again (since I was doing just cardio for the last two months) so we'll see how things go there. I'm also going to try shooting for a more lean routine as well since I don't have the weights to start doing low rep sets.

And yeah, all I drink is water (unless I am bad and have a beer when out with friends).

Wow, what a regiment. That's some discipline.

Do you eat the same thing every day?

Um, hi gay and bi gaf! I was wondering if you could help a guy who's pretty much just realised he's bi with some flirting and mushy stuff.

I'm really into <redacted>, another gaffer, and he's so charismatic. Every time he compliments me or says something nice I suddenly get all flustered and can't think of anything to respond with. We'd be on mumble playing a game and he'd call me a cutie, then I just struggle.

I've thought that maybe the reason is because there's never been another guy who's expressed these things to me (and me to him), so will this pass in time or should I really work on this? The last thing I want is for us to meet at the airport one day and have this play out:

"Hey there cutie. ;)"
/swag

"OH, THANKS!!!!"

You're cute when you blush.

So, I just found out about a job at a local GLBT resource center here in Chicago that I'm applying for. I'd be doing HIV/STI education, testing, and consulting for young MSM of color. I think I'm a bit underqualified for the job, frankly, but I want the job so badly. It is really the kind of job I dreamed about when I was living in Indianapolis but could never get because in order to do any form of HIV testing (even the mouth swab) in Indiana you need to have a phlebotomy license.

My head is absolutely spinning from the cover letter, which asks you to answer the following questions:

1.)What do you believe to be the most effective strategy to utilize in order to stimulate long term behavioral change in young men who have sex with men (YMSM) who engage in high-risk behaviors?
2.)What tactics would you utilize in order to overcome barriers that YMSM of Color often encounter when attempting to change high-risk behaviors?
3.)When compared to other populations, YMSM of Color have a high HIV positivity rate. Why do you think this is?

I got it done, but I think my head is going to asplode. Has anyone ever had a cover letter that required them to answer stuff like that? Anyway, I'll keep you all updated. :D

Yes I understand that the human body is very good at storing fat - but I was just trying to make the point that genes aren't deterministic. If you reduce the fat in your diet and exercise hard, your body fat will drop. And like I said, I'm a 'not-terrified-of-a-cheeseburger type' guy, I didn't know you were talking about aiming for wash-board abs or super low body fat %. The guy I quoted has a trim stomach for sure, but he doesn't have wash-board abs - and he's nowhere near 200 lbs. I'd say he's more like 160-170 depending on his height (although that's assuming he has good legs :P). I'm not intentionally trying to sound like a bitch but it's easy to make excuses for oneself and say that your goals are impossible and pre-determined by your genetics, which is simply not true. It can take a boatload of effort that's for sure, but it's not impossible.

What kind of goals do you set for yourself? Sure, I have an idea of where I would like to be, but I focus on my short term goals that are usually to hit a certain weight, be able to bench X kg etc. It feels much better to aim for these small to medium term goals than some lofty idea that could be 2 to 3 years of training away.

Resistance training is better for loosing fat anyways from what I've read (and in my experience) so good luck with the lifting. :) I should have mentioned that we do 3 sets of 10 reps for most exercises, with as much weight as I can handle ensuring to 'feel the burn' on the last few reps.

I think I often forget that you guys across the ocean may not have the same access to food at cheap prices that we might have - but my diet is pretty much centred around cheap protein, so I would think that in almost any Western country that what I eat would be cheap. I mean chicken and brown rice is pretty basic, and fresh vegetables and fruit should be cheap too, right?

As for the beer, who could cut out that? :P It's always nice to have a few cans every now and then.
Wow, what a regiment. That's some discipline.

Do you eat the same thing every day?
Perhaps I'm naive to it, but I don't really think it's that disciplined. I mean, I think of something like the 'paleolithic' diet when I think of discipline. The biggest hassle is making sure I eat enough protein, but I love chicken so eating 3 chicken breasts a day isn't exactly torture. :P I've also come to prefer fruit over sweets so the transition is very easy once you've stuck to it for a while. Our training regime is pretty fun too because we do it together as a couple with some good music turned up loud.

I don't eat the same fruit and vegetables every day, but yeah I do usually eat almost the same thing every day. I guess that should be boring but I'm always so hungry I just can't wait to eat whatever it is that I have available.

Good luck, excelforward.

Never heard of a cover letter with requirements like that. But I feel like it's good thing. You don't have to wonder what to put in.

Honestly, when it comes to exercise, I realized a long time ago that I like food too much to aim for a six pack, low body fat % regimen. What I did decide was use my love for food, to bulk up, and to strengthen my upper body. Increasing my protein intake was key, and I actually think I gained weight around my midsection, but my shoulders and arms are alot mor defined and bigger than they were back in May. I took a break the last few weeks due to work stress, but Ive started up again. I already had workout bench and dumbells, so it was fun working out at home, doing a lot of bicep, tricep and chest workouts. I did very little cardio.

Whats great though is that my friend who works at a gym offered my a free membership for a year (he gets one free to give to friend/family) so now I can expand my workout to include some leg and cardio.

Just wanted to say I'm now out to pretty much everybody I know and it's truly liberating, I feel much happier than before :)

Teehee, you're quite the cutie too ;)

Thanks

And congrats about coming out! Enjoy the freeing sensation and I sincerely I hope the happiness rush last a lot :)

I don't know how you have that much room for food. I've had, uh, one bowl of cereal, a cookie, and four strawberries at 2:00 PM and I don't feel hungry. I mean, I don't feel full, exactly, in that I could not possibly eat more. But I feel satisfied. Though I am bored, so I'll probably eat something soon. But I read these diet plans in exercise threads or in conversations like this and I am like, "Nope. Nope. Not gonna happen."

I'm not certain about this. I do think that some goals are impossible. Granted, my goals are... loftier than getting in shape and probably highly unrealistic, so I just need to realign my expectations more than anything else.

It's one thing I've come to realize by doing these different workout routines and following people's own exercising progress. How I'd like to look isn't realistic for the way my body is built. Yes, I can put on muscle but that muscle isn't going to look like... say the way Ricky puts on muscle regardless of whether I follow the same routine and diet as him. It's why all the fitness instructors will look different during exercise videos despite (presumably) following the same routine.

I'd prefer a "bulkier" look personally, but I'm blessed more with a lithe frame and I don't think there's any realistic way of getting around that. More than anything, I just have to accept it and live with it.

Well, my immediate goals are to just be healthier so I'm pretty sure I've been meeting them. Long term is to see if I can't get some abs but I'm trying to keep away from "I want to look like X" anymore since (as mentioned above), it's just not feasible.

I think I often forget that you guys across the ocean may not have the same access to food at cheap prices that we might have - but my diet is pretty much centred around cheap protein, so I would think that in almost any Western country that what I eat would be cheap. Well, everything over here is cheaper since our dollar is worth less. The biggest thing is I don't have a job so I'm really paranoid about my expenses.

That said, for whatever reason fruits and vegetables are silly expensive. A small container of raspberries is $2.50. My broccoli cost about $3.00 as well. A huge bag of white rice is about $10 with brown rice being almost twice that. Basically, for every healthy option, there's a cheaper, unhealthier version for half the price. Two chicken breasts were $10 (though I got a whole chicken for $5, unfortunately it's really fatty).

So, between healthier options costing more and the fact I need to eat more in order to maintain my weight, it ends up being quite a bit more expensive. First time I lived in Toronto, my weekly groceries was $20. This time, it's around $50 (and I'm still trying to eat as cheap as possible).

I actually don't drink that often. That was the first beer I've had in... two months?

And yeah, I mostly eat the same things everyday but I'm not a huge food lover so it just cuts down on having to learn more recipes. Plus, I love my 1500 calorie smoothies.

I don't know how you have that much room for food. I've had, uh, one bowl of cereal, a cookie, and four strawberries at 2:00 PM and I don't feel hungry. The diet was actually one of the harder things for me in the last four months. Before I had been eating close to what you do and after being unsatisfied with my progress I decided to get into the calorie counting game. Turns out, for my goals, I needed approximately 3350 calories a day. I think I was originally around 1700.

And for the first two weeks I was basically forcing food down in about six different meals. I would sit down to dinner with this huge plate in front of me, eat a quarter of it and be done. Then I'd take the next twenty minutes to slowly eat the rest of it.

Thankfully, my body adjusted to it and I was able to eat the diet just fine. Though, I naturally slide away from the caloric maintenance level so I do have to keep reminding myself to eat more.

Maybe.

Mmhm.

I get calories because I do not usually eat particularly well - shush, excelforward, I have been good today by my standards - but food that is good for you tends to be much more filling. I mean, I can eat a decent amount of junk food, but I'd be full eating a medium-sized chicken breast about three-quarters of the way through.

I think I simply have a naturally small stomach, though, because I have never experienced that "You don't feel full until after 20 minutes" thing. I notice when I'm full mid-meal, and everything after that point is eating in spite of that. It's why I tend to graze more than eat actual meals. I'll eat a snack, feel full, become a bit hungry again, eat a something, become a bit hungry again, etc.

I'm not currently trying to do anything, though, so it's not a problem for me now.

Whats great though is that my friend who works at a gym offered my a free membership for a year (he gets one free to give to friend/family) so now I can expand my workout to include some leg and cardio.

Lame. I wouldn't mind going to the gym for free.

Actually I would. Working out is the death of me and I LOATHE working-out. Some gay I am.

So it seems those "It Gets Better" videos on YouTube are really truthful. There are still people who don't know that I'm gay, maybe I should just make a Facebook post lol.

Looks 15 years old. No thanks. Too many real men and bigger bods to ogle at, even in Tom's events. :p

I like your style.

So it seems those "It Gets Better" videos on YouTube are really truthful. There are still people who don't know that I'm gay, maybe I should just make a Facebook post lol.

Maybe I haven't seen the videos, but they talk about making Facebook posts to announce your orientation?

I need to make a call to turn down a job offer I accepted a couple of weeks ago :(

Is it silly that I'm terrified of making the call after all the stuff I've gone through? I mean it's nothing compared to all the drama I just don't like letting people down and I hate the thought of them being pissed at me.

I was supposed to start in late August/early September so I think they have enough time to find someone else. Right?

May I ask why are you turning them down?
And don't be afraid of calling them. I can understand that you might feel uncomfortable letting them down, but if you have a valid reason, then you should just do it. Just be polite and try to explain yourself, so you won't burn your bridges behind you.

Lame? Why lame?

Because it costs other people like $150/yr and you get to go for free. I'm sure you'll probably waste it
just like the people that pay $150/yr

But yes, a year free membership is too good to pass up.

hey, I ain't hatin' (too much). Free is free is free.

(Also you need to PM me more, bb)

Yeah and I still flub my compliments to him. Maybe it will pass in time.

So, if I get this straight (pun intended):

You never had homosexual feelings or thoughts until you started playing and having conversations with <redacted>, who is a gay or bi gaffer.
In those sessions, he compliments you, he speaks sweet to you... and you like it.

Is all that correct?

If I may... how old are you?

Are you confused about your sexuality (which is perfectly normal, btw) or are you sure you are bi? Is all this because of <redacted>?

Some people require a trigger for waking up those thoughts/feelings consciously (consciously being the key word here).

Do you consciously see yourself in a relationship beyond friendship with <redacted> or any other person of the same sex? You know... beyond the bromance.
