COMICS! August l OT l So what's new with comics?

Rob is mad that Deadpool is treated as comedy-style character, which is funny, considering that's the only reason the character is popular. :p

Edit: ^^I never did like those big yellow X's.

I kinda get his issue sadly. He's being played incredibly to the zany wacky side. I'm kinda fearing that in the near future that he'll be a the marvel variation of big head. but with way off of him, maybe he'll stabilize.

I thought volume one was the weakest of the early volumes, imo it gets A LOT better and for a long time, up until issue 80 or so. Then it takes a bit of a dip, goes through a crossover with Jack of Fables that can be skipped if it doesn't look appealing, and then it starts to get better again and i'm liking the current issues. It does feel like it has gone on too long, somewhat like walking dead but not as bad.

It's real good for like the first 10 or 11 trades. When the first BIG arc ends, I'd stop reading. It's not terrible or anything, just drags on. Totally worth reading the first BIG arc, though.

This makes me so excited, it gives me something to look forward to! The hardcover volumes are super nice and affordable via Amazon too. Bigby is such an awesome mother effer though <3

Whoever created Deathstroke has a much more valid reason to be mad. Liefeld needs to shut his functional retard mouth.

Fuck that childish, bitter functional retard.

No more upset than jack kirby would be. Deathstroke for more or less is still intact.

silly monkey is right, the first trade is just OK, second and third are good and then it's top tier stuff for books on books. one real cool part of the series is that each character gets their time to shine. bigby is bad ass now but wait till others get their bad ass moments. so good.

Wait, Rob Liefeld said something stupid? The same Rob Liefeld who gave us this quote?

Damn, I thought I could clean up my rant a bit but you had to quote me lol

Not sure I get your point about Jack Kirby?

Jack kirby had a few of his characters ripped by marvel. Challengers of the unknown(with his assistance) was flipped into fantastic four, darkseid was flipped into thanos.

Irredeemable #18 was crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy. Though if i fault this series, it relies WAY TOO MUCH on narrating past events that are great instead of you reading them as they happen. It kind of cheapens the awesome, but it's still full of awesome ideas even if the execution is 50/50.

Okay, Kirby got ripped. But I still don't get the comparison, because Liefeld certainly didn't get ripped. Quite the opposite, he's the one who did the ripping and other creators fixed his shameful cloning experiment afterward.

Sooooooo Nova comixology sale. Great book but a warning:issue 12 ends in a cliffhanger that is resolved in the ending of Annihilation Conquest issue 6 and its dumb.

I mentioned kirby in relation to the creator of deathstroke, not liefeld.

I loved the first Fable trade so much I went right out to buy the other two or three that were out back then. Such a nice accident since I had quit comics again sometime before that.

Fables is absolute trash to me. brah can't even do anything with established characters. Fairy tale characters being violent and sexual is neither cute or sompelling. This is why Alan Moore did not want Before watchmen to happen. Not worth the newspaper it's printed on.

Wow, Hawkeye was great. And I've never given a shit about Hawkeye.

Smh

lots bad opinions in this one. fables is very well constructed and the characters are beautifully realized. i don't even think you really read it if you think it's just fairy tale characters lazily made sexy and violent.

Nah brah I read the first five trades. Beautifully realized, are you a CBR reviewer or something? There's nothing to any of these brahs. Anyone in this thread could write a better story with the same source material.

What does Alan Moore and Before Watchmen have to do with Fables?

Shoulda gone with apes...

Yes, they should have!

I took a page from Obi-Wan, in that being stricken down would make me more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

I got close. :(

Glory fuckin' rox! You ninnies losing your giblets over Invincible and it's chubby chick need to pay attention to Glory! All the crazy aliens of Green Lantern Corps. A more dangerous half monster character than She-Hulk. Crazy giant baby monsters! And an artist that isn't afraid to take risks visually.

Also read Holy Terror. Not quite as exquisite as Dark Knight Strikes Again, but brief flashes of the Frank Miller we knew and loved.

Uhhhh the Lost Girls????

I'm reading The Filth right now. I guess it's trippy but the gross out factor is making me kind of not want to finish it. I've read people saying it's Morrison's best, but nah.

Just read USM #13 and Hawkeye #1.

USM:
I'd really like for Miles to build up his own characters and stories, rather than push in old spidey's friends and foes. We had the Prowler but we have no more real original enemies.
It's still good but I'd like for them to do stories completely unrelated to the world at large and unique to Miles.

Hawkeye:
Unique. Good stuff.

My problem with Fables is Willingham's unsubtle zionistic jingoism, and this is coming from someone who's Jewish.
I was kinda taken aback by Bigby's tirade but I thought it made sense for the character and the added irony of a fable that's been used to represent nazis was pretty tasty. But I'm not jewish...

I can relate.

It's great that the torch has been passed in Savage Dragon to Malcolm Dragon, but Larsen isn't spending any time building a roster of Malcolm specific villains which is kind of weak.

Anybody else reading The Shadow? It's the least Garth Ennis comic ever. He's actually writing a story here and not falling back on profanity and buggering regularly. :O

hey, welcome back bandit! you crazy bastard

Hua hua hua hua huaaaa!

Time to check on my pants. Need pants to go to work. :(

I didn't mean I was personally offended because I was Jewish, I meant it was over the top even for me.

Bloodshot was a pretty fun read. I enjoyed the character back in the 90's and the new series takes what I remember and runs with it. Plus the whole false memories meets undying soldier thing is right up my alley! Added to the pull list.

Also added Shadowman to the pull list since Justin Jordan did such a great job with Luther Strode and this series won't be the generic bald late 90's Shadowman.

The $5 (shipped in the US) sketch card commission offer still stands.

I'm thinking about offering $20 (shipped in the US) 9x12 commissions as well. Single figure, gray scale (buyer option to opt out of color in case I'm feeling adventurous), 100lb. bristol board, shipped with a polypropylene archival sleeve.

Who has two thumbs and a need for side income?

This guy here.

A lot of fairy tales have source material that are based in sex and violence. So in a way Fables is truer to the source material than creators like Disney ever could be. Fairy tales were originally used as tools to scare the shit out of kids so they would behave which eventually evolved into the PG bedtime stories.

EDIT: ^^^^^^^^ FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. THANK YOU BASED REMENDER!!!!!

It seems like Marvel is getting all of the staples out of the way. They said they would be launching a new book every week from November to February I think. So far we have like 6 November teasers and there are only 4 Wednesdays in the month. I expect to see a lot of Cosmic and B-List Avenger solo books coming up soon.

My problem with Marvel NOW is the over-reliance on the same old icons. New 52 tried a lot of new things, but Marvel is being ultra conservative so far.

Same as it ever was.

Come on Marvel, New Universe is ready and waiting to be mined for rehashing!

Mark Millar + Steve Dillion = PLANET TERRY!

Looks like the Marvel spies from Fan Expo last year overheard me mocking Deadpool. I told my friend, "If this character is supposed to be funny, why not get an actual comedian to write him?"

One year later. . .

Oh, and will this include a new wave of new Number One issues?! OMG COLLECTOR'S ITEMS! LOL LOL LOL

Not sure how i feel about Fraction writing both Fantastic Four books...especially if that means both are 3.99 now instead of 2.99.

Fraction writing team books XO.
