EA Screws Nintendo fans yet again (No Ultimate Team, Physics in Madden 13)

ME3 seems to be a good port and thats propably because because EA didn´t port it, they handed it to a dev with "Alot of Nintendo experience"... Whatever this means...

I bought madden 06 for the 360. That taught me a lesson. I should have bought it on OG Xbox instead. The Madden team does not represent the highest caliber of dev team.

At least FIFA on Wii U looks decent.

Mass Effect is Unreal Engine 3 isn't it? I know UE4 support for Wii U is up in the air at the moment, but surely Epic must be working on making UE3 run well on the Wii U.

Dat Triple-Core Gamecube CPU!

I'm joking it's a port so it wasn't built to take advantage of the Wii U from the ground up so I'm guess they cut a lot of corners just to get it out on time.

Disappointing Wii U isn't getting Madden 13 built on a new engine like Madden 06 for 360 was, would like to see what it's capable of and Madden would've been a good comparison. Wonder if EA is even building a new engine for 720/PS4's launch.

All of the above aren´t beasts themselves. Not by a longshot.

Don´t understand how anyone could orgasm over those...

Get an i5 / i7 into a console. Then you have a damn beast!

Xbox 360 had a beast CPU when it came out, so did the PS3.

CPUs next gen will propably only be a moderate step up.

Oh back to topic:

BAD EA! You go to bed without dessert this evening!

Madden 06s engine on 360 was asstacular.

EA is an ultra lazy disgrace of a company. I don't know why people are using them of all things to jump on the Wii U is weak bandwagon.

This. I'm annoyed that EA is doing this but I'm not about to blame Nintendo or the Wii U. The fact that these actions aren't coming from Ubisoft (so far) is enough for me. I have no problem supporting their launch games. In fact I'm set for ZombiU and AC3 from them at the moment. I simply won't support EA's games. Regardless if this is just par for the course from them and I was interested in Madden do to the Wii U controller. No one is forcing me to buy their games so I won't in the end. I'm not going to "support" a release in the hopes the next entry will be better. To hell with that bs. I hope others look at things the same way. If that means no EA support because the game bombs then so be it. I rather have quality support for the Wii U from a few developers/publishers then have crappy support from a lot. I'd rather there be no EA games for launch if they can't offer a quality and complete product but that's just me.

It's not disappointing at all, it's totally expected. Why build a new engine for one system, when they're going to have to build an even bigger engine next year for the 720 and PS4?

The Wii U is new hardware just like Madden 06 was new for XBox 360 and Madden 07 for Playstation 3. How ironic is it that arguably the most powerful system of the 3 HD systems gets the most inferior game? Sadly, misinformed consumers will see this as Nintendo being the most inferior system overall because of efforts like this. And EA, we know you've had development kits for quite a while now, probably before Madden 13 even began development, despite all the dev kit updates.

And you know what stinks? This is a lose-lose situation for Nintendo fans. If you buy the game and it's a success, EA will be like "see? We can half-ass the Wii U version and still make money". If the game bombs because consumers may be smarter than to purchase an inferior version of Madden, EA will 3DS the Wii U and be like "see? No one bought our game. We don't have a Madden audience on Wii U, so we're not making any more Madden games on Wii U".

And forgive me if this info has already been posted.

I think that it's not so strange for a new system to get not-optimized version of multiplatform titles. I would also add that Maddenwiiu doesn't seem a half-ass version at all.
both ps360 version and wiiu version are based on madden12: in one case, they are adding new features focused on some elements, in the other case they are adding new features focused on other elements.
develop cost time, and they decided to focuse the new elements of wiiu version into the gamepad integrations, in order to match the launch of the console.

because now it's all about GPGPUs for consoles.

I always just shake my head at the arrogance of Nintendo fans when it comes to performance speculation for this system. Even if it is more powerful than the PS3/360 in every capacity (Unlikely as that is with the gripes about the CPU leaving something to be desired), the fact that the difference between them isn't enough to easily port over old system code without a ton of extra work being done to make it run is pretty damn telling. I seriously doubt we'll ever see a game for the system that looks better than, or even as good as the best for either of the competing systems. Nintendo lacks the technical expertise and would be unwilling to fund such a large project anyway, and it'd be prohibitively expensive for any developer to make anything exclusive that would truly push the system to its limits like that.

could not have said it better my self.

It looked a lot better than the ugly ass PS2/Xbox/GC Madden, and showed the jump in tech right off the bat.

I'd rather play a football game that looks like this

madden-nfl-08-20070712110248198.jpg

and plays like that game did then a game that looks like this

mad08x360scrnbjacobs.jpg

and plays like that game did.

In fact that's what I do, I just update the PC version every year, since EA has decided they won't make a PC version.

This is what EA does. The first NCAA Football for 360 (one with Reggie Bush on the cover) was a joke. Better graphics, sure, but it lacked a lot of the features that were standard in the previous year's PS2/Xbox/GCN version. *Poof*, they were just gone with next-gen.

And it was a buggy mess. Ugh...

Nintendo is a gaming company only. They have to make Money on hard and software. They can´t afford to put an AAA budget behind every game. Thats why you see some games with lower budget not going for killer graphics, and other games (3D Mario, Zelda) with AAA budget wich will push the hardware.

Expect true visual eyepleasers from Nintendo once the new Microsoft and Sony console will be revealed, wich is propably the reason why they are holding back now. Nintendo loves keeping as much as possible close to their chest when theres a new console. Sucks for us, but Nintendo thinks its the way to go.

Maybe we see a glimpse of AAA games at the fall conference though (in September)

Iwata confirmed this is the case.

Obviously you've never seen wii sales results.

Obviosuly, wii madden out sold 360/ps3. And obviously , wii was last to launch and first to next GEN because no one gives a crap about graphics. Obviously the wii have been outselling 360 for past couple of years.

I think every console had gimped version the first few years. Next gen starts the process over, then they will add back in "features" that were in previous games. No new story here.

The 360 got a gimped version of Madden the first few years. New consoles usually get rushed ports the first couple of years until the install base grows. Just how it is.

I don't think that's what it is at all. I think they remove features only so they can add them back again later as the gen progresses. It's bullshit, but it's calculated.

I'm honestly waiting to see what the PS4/720 versions look like. I really doubt EA is going to pull this with those versions. Even if that happen in the past I expect them not to do that this time around.

Maybe my memory is being a bit fuzzy, but I recall a lot of people saying the infinity engine animations looked pretty bad when it was announced. At any rate this would be the best version of the game for people who don't like that new engine.

Last few years lol

Every single 360 madden outsold wii version. Obviouly , a Microsoft dream. stupid Nintendo launching a new system with better graphics , what a waste of resources.Should have learned from record breaking ps2 madden 2012sales.

Fixed.

I think some are forgetting this. I think most of those getting a WiiU, only had a Wii. I'm not saying its the right thing to do, but that is probably how EA sees it. They are probably like "eh, Nintendo gamers won't care if we weren't able to add this at launch.....but we better add some tablet stuff"

Probably. If by effort you mean allocation / resource to the project. who knows why they made this particular business decision.
As mentioned countless times, seems to be standard operating procedure with Madden since 06. 360, PS3, 3DS, Vita and now Wii U get gimped versions initially. Weirdly the only console that didn't was Wii, and that was because an external team was brought in and they actually had some ambition and talent.

Expect Durango and PS4 to get similar shoddy treatment.

I agree, but the problem is wii version of madden were horrible ports. And people are concern the trend might continue with wiiU. Bottom line , time will tell.

EA being EA. This isn't new, they did the same in the late 90s with the Saturn, rushed ports with no effort at all to make a few quid. I remember Sega really getting on their case about it (the official magazine went on a huge crusade about EA being utter bastards) and they fell out big time so the DC never got any games.. And we all know what happened next. Fully expect Nintendo to smile and nod over this. Can't blame them really, as irritating as it.

On a side note, Peter Moore with EA still makes my blood run cold even to this day.

To this very day I still whince when I see a comment like this.

Tbh, the mode sounds like a loss but I'm not so sure on the updated physics engine, there's a trade in this version - unprecedented control of strategy. I think some people will take that trade when they experience it.

Serious question as I haven't followed the WiiU version at all, what can be done on the tablet that can't be done with a couple button presses? You can hot route every receiver on a controller in literally 2-3 seconds. Same with defensive coverage, once you learn the shortcuts it takes no time at all.

It looked a lot better than the ugly ass PS2/Xbox/GC Madden, and showed the jump in tech right off the bat.

It had a terrible framerate, and almost seemed like it had no AI at times, it was truly a terrible game.

Madden 06 for the 360 was somehow even worse than the Fever games on Xbox, and almost as bad as Quarterback Club for the Dreamcast.

They are. Just watch for yourself. The actual physics and collision are alright, but the animation system is hilarious. The game is constantly getting hung up on keyframes, so everyone comes off as a stiff collection of body parts that function independently of one another instead of acting as a complete human. If they'd just use full speed footage it wouldn't look so bad, but the system just can not handle slow-motion.

When would you be playing any game in slow motion?

Well sure, a general skepticism with EA on Nintendo platforms is probably warranted at this point. But really, looking at the context of it, there's nothing out of the ordinary with Madden having a rough platform debut. Funny enough, the Wii U one looks to be faring better than usual even.
