Breaking Bad - Season 5, Part 1 - Sundays on AMC

What a fantastic episode. Was left a bit cold by last weeks but this made up for it.

On the tracking device thing, of course it was Lydia. She wants out and theres no way a professional would put it there, would be discovered instantly. She's the only one that would know which barrel to put it on as well.

What in the fuck did I just read? One of the most ridiculous things I've read in here and that's saying something.

Poor old psychopath Walt. Sure he's making meth. Sure he's killing people. Sure he's threatening people but man his wife is such a meanie. Give me a break. Skyler isn't perfect (she fucked Ted) but to say that she's worse than Walt is completely moronic.

Since it's just a TV show you can support whoever but some people seem to honestly believe their reasoning and I wouldn't be surprised to see them apply it to real life situations.

I tend to agree with this. People root for bad guys all the time, doesn't make them sociopaths. The moral grandstanding in this thread has got a bit ridiculous lately.
 
Last night's episode was probably the best of this season thus far. That said, Jesse's lack of screen-time so far is pretty noticeable to me. I hope he gets a major arc sometime in the near future.

I don't understand the meaning of the sound of the gun cocking at the end of the episode. The previews for next week showed that nothing all too dramatic happened, so was it a symbol, or what?
 
Is one thing to hope for a bad ending and "rooting" for the bad guy in that sense, as it would make the show more impactful and entertaining, i hope for that too, but how can you NOT hate Walt, FFS?
 
Best episode of the season so far. I'm glad they're focusing in the family again and less on Mike. Mike's only good in small doses.

Skyler is a prisoner in her own home. People just hate on her because it's the cool thing to do.

Yes, she fucked Ted. There's that. But Skyler's showing something that Walt hasn't shown in quite a long time: guilt. This episode showed that Walt has transformed from a mild mannered high school teacher to a heartless monster in the space of a year.

He poisoned a child to manipulate his partner. Walt's only lying to himself saying that he's still doing it for his family. We all know he's doing it for him, because he's power hungry, because he's turning into an egomaniac.

To think that Skyler is worse than him is absolutely ridiculous. There's a difference between doing some stupid things and generally acting like a bitch towards someone, and then there's running a drug empire and having people killed and POISONING CHILDREN.
 
Great episode. Already half way through this part of the season, feels bad man.

Count me in with the group that doesn't mind Skyler. I find Walt more annoying at this point but I still love him as a character.

P.S Jesse needs more screen time damnit

I mean seriously? With what we've seen people do in this show, that is non existant, basically.

I know, people seem to be using that as their main grievance against her besides "gosh she's so annoying."

The problem is that people are forming their opinions based on the fact that this is a TV show. They're cheering for Walt because he's "badass" and the main character, and hating on Skyler because she was a bitch to him for a season or two.

Pretty much, the female on the phone talks about deliveries showing up as double or triple in the system. Then the german guy on the phone says that the new system would affect their production.

Then the american actresss attempts to speak german (worst attempt I've ever heard), it's hard to understand what she said but the gist of it is that she is trying to delay the software upgrade by saying that they wouldn't meet the quarter results with the new system.

Brilliant episode.

Walt is batshit crazy but he's the fucking man, if Skyler takes him on then she's going to lose. He's far too smart for her.

You mean Half Measure? Yeah, while Skysky may be annoying, Half Measure is nothing but a liability that's going to get them all in some deep shit. Mike should have offed her when he had the chance. smh
 
Y'know one of my favorite little touches in this show is the new remix of the theme tune during the credits of every episode.

This "Oh I hate Skyler so much, why can't she just die already" joke was old after a few posts, now its been beaten to death harder than any joke I've seen on gaf (and thats saying something!). Seriously guys, give it a fucking rest, its making me not want to even open this thread. And please don't tell me after the last couple of episodes there are people who still have that as their genuine opinion.

Other than that another amazing episode. Great cinematography. Loved Mike's "...and thats what we'll do, right after I leave her alone in a ditch" line, jesus Mike has been so awesome this season. Also, I don't think Anna Gunn deserves the Emmy for season 4 but she has it pretty much nailed on for next time.

I guess we don't know if just the single barrel was bugged or if all of them are. If it's just the single barrel that Lydia chose and erased from the system, then it would be pretty convenient that someone else was able to run in and place a tracker on it so quickly. If all of the barrels are bugged, then maybe it was someone other than her. Either way, I can't wait to find out what Walt's plan is.
 
If the series had ended on season 4 I would have totally been fine - Walter getting away, learning his lesson, super lab exploding, etc.

But it's kind of clear that this season exists solely to explore the two loose ends of season 4 - Walter's descent and Skyler finally realizing who her husband has become.

Because Season 4's ending would have been the "happy ending", I know this show can't end well for Walter. :-/

I missed it, can someone explain it to me? For some reason my cable box reset itself exactly at 10PM and took 3 minutes to boot up.

I got to the part where Walt Jr. is like "really dad?" about the $50, but I didn't know what that was pertaining to...

Then I see him pull the 300 into the driveway next to the PT Cruiser...and then flip scenes and Jr. gets his car back. Did he "buy off" Walt Jr. again? lol
 
Lots of people have always hated Skyler but I think part of it is because of the way her arc has been written. When she found out about Walt, she absolutely wouldn't even talk to him. Wouldn't let him see his children. When she found out that she could use Walt's money to help her brother in law and sister, she all the sudden thought that it was OK. Completely self serving and hypocritical.

But from there it was handled decently, she was inching her way into the fold, but then when Walt kills someone, who was threatening to kill not only him, but also her and his two children, she breaks down and thinks he's evil? No gray area, no subtle lack of trust, just mental breakdown? If Walt hadn't done what he did, his entire family would be dead. Period. Her reaction has been too rash, that's the way it was written. That's why people hate her. Because she completely fails to see anything other than "My husband killed people, he's a murder, he's evil, he's the Anti-Christ." When she should also see that he was acting in self defense, defense of their family. And never mind the fact that the people he killed were also, all murderers.

I'm not sure about this argument. Wasn't his expectation to be alive less than a year?? Even if he was making 500k a year it was still short of where he would have needed to be to set his family up for the rest of their lives.

The mechanic has fixed the aztek from it's latest run-in with Walter White:Professional Bad Guy. He's going over, almost reminiscently, all the previous fixes he's put on it ("at least this time, we didn't have to install a new windshield").

Walt then opens the driver door to get in, looks inside, and see's the Heisenberg Hat. A plan of "fuck it, I'm the boss" forms in his head. He turns around and asks the mechanic "How much will you give me for the car? $100? $50?" The Mechanic says "lets see what I've got in the register"

So Long Aztek.

I'm pretty sure it's a calculated move on the part of the writers to show you mild character flaws in Skyler like these and smoking while pregnant so you can say, "HOW DARE SHE" and then realize that her husband is cooking meth, poisoned an innocent kid and is a multiple murderer, and is doing it entirely out of pride.
