Dexter: Resurrection' Season 1

After 3 episodes I'm not sold. The confrontation with
Batista
from episode 1 was probably the biggest disappointment. I was expecting to see some sparks flying and pretty much nothing happened during the initial scene or later on (at least so far). The whole story arc that was crying about how bad it is for the immigrants in NY was very blunt and the weird female detective is pretty annoying.

There's a lot of fanservice and sure it's fun to see some of the old characters, but I don't think that will elevate the overall quality of this season.
Is it fanservice or plagiarism to lift an entire plotline from Sandman?

I'm really enjoying this season. Even though it was a bit slow to start, episode 4 really set the pace.

Rewatching the original series, it's crazy how well it's held up. We're talking about a show from 19 years ago, and it's still a great watch.

Not many shows can say the same. I know New Blood sparked a lot of debate, but aside from the ending (as usual), it was a solid season.

Original Sin, on the other hand, just doesn't work for me. Way too teen-oriented, with a fake-ass Masuka, a fake-ass Batista… Might as well just rewatch the original show.

I dunno, I like the Deb from OS, and Dexter's mom, WOW, she's got it going on :P

OS coulda used a few more years to really dive into the retro...90s? Miami. They REALLY missed the boat not having Crockett and Tubbs make an extended cameo :P

I liked episode 4, the whole idea of a
private club for serial killers
sounds dumb, but it works somehow. Plus Dexter having a proper kill was nice.

It's also quite amazing how many recognizable actors have already appeared this season.

Yeah Deb steals the show in OS.

It's a very bad show I somehow enjoyed lol

Some of it is mind bogglingly bad though like all the flashbacks of Harry and Dexter's Mom. It's all so weirdly played straight but just badddd.

Christian Slater has somehow managed to make a career out of a bad Jack Nicholson impression, but it still kinda works!

I agree the flashbacks were a bit much, I had forgotten a lot of the Baby Dexter stuff from the original show. Stringing a single mom along for a YEAR off a simple possession charge, yikes! And she rose to become a sub-boss. Then they cop out on her actual execution.

I never read the books, but is the "Dark Passenger" ever intended to be an actual demon or anything? I feel like the show can't quite commit to "traumatic childhoods make serial killers" versus "it's genetic/a curse".

Yeah it kind of seemed like it was going for "Harry is the real monster" with all the flashback stuff. I mean we knew he directed Dexter to kill people and cheated on their Mom but wooooof at all the stuff in flashbacks lol

I watched the first episode and haven't felt the need to got back. They will never recapture the magic the show had in the first 2-3 seasons.

Well over half way trough the season, I've got to say this is pretty sick, loving it with wife. I don't know what happened but after First Blood the writing is top notch, and so far it has a pretty good chance to be up there with one of the best seasons of all, top 3 easily. At this point I dearly hope that some recent rumors are true about renewing for 2 more seasons.

The New Blood and Resurrection's writer is the same from seasons 1 and 4.

He left after 4 and came back, that's the reason Michael C Hall agreed to do it.

Man.

I am really loving this season, it's a true "return to form" as the kids say.

Gotta agree with the praise it's really good. Direction and writing just has the early season vibes and right amount of humour. And love the whole sinister six of serial killers thing they are doing super fun

I'm not a huge fan of this season so far, but episode 7 was promising and the best one so far. I didn't expect that the
other half of the Gemini Killer will be killed in public
and
Batista's hunt after Dexter
finally has a chance to gain some traction instead of being super boring and disappointing.

The college scene with both Dexter and Harrison attending the lecture was also surprisingly pleasant to watch.

'Dexter: Original Sin' Canceled Despite Renewal Announcement, 'Dexter: Resurrection' Season 2 Writers Room to Open Soon

There was something missing... perhaps a lack of passion among viewers.

Huh, wonder if D:OS was more expensive for being a period piece or if Hall is more expensive on D:R but the popularity/creative directions justify the cost.

Maybe Slater didn't want to come back? SMG is obviously doing Buffy now. Too bad, 'cause I loved the Deb actress, was looking forward to seeing her become a cop.
