FUUUUUUCK. I think I'm going to be out of town during the early head start weekend. I skipped all the betas on purpose so I was really looking forward to it. 
Anyone here have experience with the various recording programs and GW2? I'm talking about programs like FRAPS, Dxtory, Bandicam, and MSI afterburner.
I'm getting an SSD within the next couple of weeks and am looking into trying to record videos of GW2 to my spare HDD. I'm curious if anyone here has used any of the above software when recording to a separate HDD, and what the performance impact was.

I am a little familiar with MSI Afterburner. I record video to one of these. I used Afterburner to record some BF3 videos and the performance hit was around 10-20fps. Since the game was running at 150fps or so, it made little difference. I have an i7 2600k and GTX 560ti. Afterburner is free and does not have the limitations that FRAPS has. Afterburner does require a large recording hard drive since the video is not as well compressed as h264, but you are trading performance for hard drive space.

I can get and use an Oppressor Weapon for HoM even though I don't have Prophecies and thus no War In Kryta, right?

Yeah, you can just buy an Oppressor weapon from someone in Spamadan.
The prices are probably going to be higher than usual now though, with everyone flipping out to finish their HoM.

thanks that's awesome....will likely go with the base as it appears these bonuses are one time shots and the like and playing the game will eventually get or replace the bonus pet etc.

Most are except the elite skill and the miniature rytlock(not sure if he can be obtained with the random mini bags you can buy)
Stress test starts 4am for me, gives me 2hrs to try the game before I go to work.

In other news feel completely dead in the water starting out guild wars 1.
Is it normal that each zone transition my client is downloading? Is the game simply streaming?
Could it be much like blizzards "Playable" state before you have downloaded much of the game?

This. People are asking for 50k for gold pets and over 100k for unique pets. I loathe to even ask about tormentor weapons. *cries*

If it's like the Collector's Edition mini pets in GW1:
- You won't be able to get it randomly from other means (like mini bags)
- You WILL be able to trade it to others (not account / character bound)
Thanks guys...no big deal ...completed my order and in for $45 is no catastrophe! Wish I would have made the cut on the three day early bird as missed it as a bubble boy only 1 day off.....but will be playing prepare to die as well then so again no huge loss. basically the green man code would have given me the regular priced deluxe edition for free over the regular...as I am a noob to GW I am happy to invest less upfront!
It's something like that. The game downloads just the bare essentials to start running, and more zone specific stuff loads when you get there for the first time. After that, it should stay in your file so it shouldn't take so long to download. GW2 does more or less the same thing, but for me it seems much faster at it.
Last time I saw, Tormented weps went for about 30e (210k), but oppressor weapons are on a cheaper end since they're much easier to get it. Shouldn't be more than 100k for one. I finished WoK a few nights ago and had the opportunity to get 2 of them, one to sell and one for my HoM.

Well, I think your answer is right there.
I received my code 1 minute, 2 seconds after preordering. Pretty sure they're either out, or their system is broken. It wouldn't make sense for it to come 'a few days before release' for beta weekends.

Well, there are no more beta weekends and amazon does state that they will send you the code at least a few days before the game is released, so I think its mighty premature to state that amazon is out of codes.

I did, and they thought it was a code in the box. Amazon CSR reps aren't exactly .. bright. Most of them just read off a script. Just trying to see if anyone else is having issues or is informed about when it last worked.
I'm trying to get as many HoM points as I can before release, but I'm pretty pessimistic at this point. I'm just about to hit level 20 on this character, and I really don't have a proper grasp of what I'm doing, or should be doing. I'm really disappointed. I only have 4 points, which is to be expected at the point I'm at now, but it's disheartening. Only having Nightfall + EotN isn't really helping either.
that was a GREAT video, and has only made my Mesmer/guardian debate even harder

I just picked up my Oppressor for 90k. Now to work on my Unique minipet, hoping I can stay in the 60k range for that...
Basic supply-side econ here, people want the stuff for GW2's impending release, prices are going to jack up.
You can get the unique mini for no money at all, just do all the stuff to get the mini moa chick.

Eh I had intentions of trying for points too but at this point I plan to just get through all the campaigns and see what happens from there. I'm about 3/4th of the way through Prophecies, and plan to finish it and EotN before GW2 launch. Not sure how I will feel about splitting my time between the two games even though I am enjoying my time in the original. I'm almost more interested in continuing it than I am in the GW2 launch for some reason. I feel like by the time I get through all the campaigns I'll have a better grasp of what I need and how to get it, and hopefully have accumulated a bit of money along the way. Yea, I'd like to hit 30/50 but not stressing over it. Oh, and I have a boxed GotY edition (so prophecies only) if you'd like the access key for it! Maybe that will lift your spirits somewhat?
Best Buy, Gamestop, supposedly have it digitally, but not sure if those are still offering the 3-day. There's also the GW2 site, which I'd imagine wouldn't run out of codes, at a last resort. GMG said they still have EU codes, so it's likely just a ran-out thing on Amazon and GMG's part.

Attention everyone who thinks it is necessary to copy down sliders to achieve names quickly ; it will be far more efficient to just 'Skip to End' five times to poach the names you want as soon as the servers go live on August 25th, and then delete those names to claim them with your real character designs.
Deleted names have a 24 hour period of reservation for your account, meaning that no one else can get the names you delete within 24 hours of that name you delete.
Now if you're just trying to maximize early playing time on August 25th, then proceed.
Personally, I'm hoping for additional templates and slider options anyways. I feel like the asura kinda got screwed, especially in the hair department
