COMICS! August l OT l So what's new with comics?

I'm sure this question gets asked a lot but how many of you have switched to digital? I've been reading The Dark Knight Returns on my iPad but it just doesn't feel right for some odd reason. I guess I've gotten too used to actual physical copies.

Right now, since I don't buy too many comics regularly, I've been slowly growing my digital library. Digital versions for me are issues that I've bought on a whim or am too lazy to go to my comic shop and go through the boxes of back issues for. Other reasons are some of the comixology sales and people recommending things to get.

Then there's something like Fraction's Hawkeye, which I bought both paper and digital for and will probably double dip for the entire series.

Yeah some books don't feel right. I've mostly switched (and this is way better than singles) but compared to a nice collection, it's lacking. Also the iPad screen is a little small (I have no idea how people do the smaller and lower res tablets for reading).

Comixolgy has many of their issues available in 'HD' on the ipad - it is ridiculously clean and just as easy to read as a physical issue.

Hawkeye #1 (compressed because of the retina ipad's resolution and minus) from Comixology

Digital has possibly solved my least favorite aspect of print comics: Trying to browse through last months issue before reading the current one. It's one of the better selling points to Marvel 3.99 books, coming with a digital code. I started getting those digital combos for DC's Green Lantern, Action Comics, Batman, and Justice League too.

So batman 12 is that good huh, been enjoying the series a lot but felt court of owels ran an issue or 2 too long. Can't wait to read later.

It's still not as big. I'm not going to read Batwoman or the Flash on it.

I guess but when switching between my physical copy and my digital copy (I usually read in portrait moved) and can read the exact same page without squinting to read text - I'm happy with digital.

*looks at FF cover*

I don't know what i'm looking at but i'm going to buy it.

Well, reading further about Fantastic Four and FF, I don't like how it sounds at all. I'll give it a shot but Hickman's FF era is officially over come Marvel Now.

"The two books will be intertwined, but not in a strict story sense. The main title will be heavy into the idea of this unit being much more than just a team. "It's the first family, and we're putting family first," Fraction told USA Today. He'll be taking the family, kids and all, on a field trip all over history for a one-year trip that lasts four minutes on Earth. "If they're studying ancient Rome, then by God let's go have lunch with Caesar on the Ides of March. If they're looking at the Big Bang, they're going to watch it from the front row," said Fraction. Thanks to the "trip" format, every issue will be a one-and-done adventure."

That's going to be really hard to pull off, at least i'll be reading at the beginning.

I started with the first five issues of his run. Nothing came close to this latest issue.

Read the whole Owl arc. I'm not joking it's fucking great. Also, Black Mirror was great. Makes me want to read some other Snyder stuff.

Comic-gaf is American Vampire good?

Edit: Grendel collection comes out on the 14th.

Holy shit yes American Vampire is awesome. Hence my avatar. lol. Also the side stories are sweet too. There is a 6 issue story "Survival of the Fittest" that Sean Murphy worked on. (Vampire Nazis
WWII) His work is fucking amazing.

So i wonder if these cover images are accurate:

Deadpool 2.99 with a digital code
big titles like Hulk/Thor 3.99 with a digital code
FF and Fantastic Four 2.99 without a digital code.

after seeing Deadpool's cover i was kind of hoping all the Marvel Now books would come with digital codes regardless of 2.99/3.99 pricing.

i was just going to make a post somewhere about dropping Secret Avengers when Remender leaves and how Defenders will probably end since Fraction is going to FF/Fantastic Four and its low sales, and apparently it's confirmed that Defenders ends with issue #12.

I don't think i'll really miss it, FF seems like it will fill that gap since Fraction is moving all the FF family to Frantastic Four.

In the Venom exit interview (great issue by the way, Shalvey demolished) he talked about still having Venom to write in SA, so he might be staying.

Really late to the party here, but it seems i have to check out Batman... is that the only Batman title out of the "New 52" worth following?

On the Marvel side, is Wolverine and the X-Men any good?

Aside from dodgy fill in art in the most recent issue, it's one of Marvel's best books right now.

wolverine and the xmen is amazing. It has the humour, lightness, as well as some good stories being slowly set up. One of the best books out.

I was ready to start some fisticuffs until I re-read your post and realized you were talking about WatXM and not Batman. Becky Cloonan aced it on the Batman #12.

Also, everyone needs to start reading this...

PUNK%20ROCK%20JESUS%202-500x500.jpg

This.
I picked this up without knowing anything about the book. I didn't even notice that it was the second issue so i had to buy the first one on comixology when i got home.

Sean Murphy's art is great, and i love how he pretty much sets the whole universe in just a few pages.

I don't understand the appeal of digital. Same price for less??? I guess I understand the space issue for some people, but what are the benefits besides that? Are they really enough to give up the ability to resell or look at them in their native format?

Also: My LCS does discounts based on pull list size, so I'm getting 25% off retail.

Convenience and space are the big thing for me. I can get my comics without leaving the house, I don't have to find room for stacks of floppies, and I can bring my entire collection with me really easily. Plus, pages look downright gorgeous on the iPad 3 screen.

The price is definitely still too high, but I think eventually publishers will finally throw retail under the bus and they'll go cheaper. It's all just a matter of time.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Bad news for Pie N Beans, I ALSO loved Stegman on Fantastic Four this week. GREAT work.

;D

A broken clock is right at least two times a day! Wheres Stegman gonna settle when all this NOW dust falls. Amazing talent, some stunning panels in that issue. Specially love his big eyed 90's Spidey. Have never liked the smaller eyed versions.

I have absolutely 0% interest in where both F4 and FF are going though it seems, FF especially reeks of an early death. Don't think Marvel really has any idea what to do with them post-Hickman.
