Kudos to those who participated in the NeoGAF July #NPD Predictions thread. Aggregate predictions were super-close to actual numbers.

And this misterious part of the official PR ( we're trying to understand it XD)

"Of the hardware platforms that were on the market last July, only one, the 3DS, realized a unit sales increase over last year. Both the DS and the 3DS, however, realized a month-over-month unit sales increase over June 2012 while the other platforms declined," she said.

Microsoft PR

Xbox 360 maintains its lead in the U.S. console market, marking 19 months as the top-selling current-generation console in the U.S.

July 2012 U.S. NPD highlights:
· Xbox 360 sold 203,000 units in July, more units than any gaming hardware, and held 49 percent share of current-generation console sales in the U.S. This marks the 17th consecutive month that Xbox 360 has held more than a 40 percent share of current-generation console sales in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, July 2012)

· Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in July (hardware, software and accessories) reached $218 million; consumers spent more on Xbox 360 products in July than they spent on the other two current-generation consoles combined. (Source: NPD Group, July 2012)

· During the month of July, Xbox 360 held six of the top 10 U.S. console game titles including: “NCAA Football 13,” “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes” “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” “Assassin’s Creed: Revelations” and “Batman: Arkham City.” (Source: NPD Group, July 2012)

There has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360. Coming this holiday:
· The year’s hottest blockbuster games including “Halo 4,” “Forza Horizon,” “Dance Central 3” and “Fable: The Journey.”
· A whole new way to interact with your TV with breakthrough experiences for the whole family such as “Kinect Sesame Street TV,” “Kinect Nat Geo TV” and “Nike+ Kinect Training.”
· A suite of new Xbox LIVE and entertainment experiences including Internet Explorer for Xbox 360 alongside bringing Xbox games to Windows 8.
· Xbox SmartGlass, which enables all the devices you own to work together, making your games and entertainment even better.

Well if MS is the highest, terrible numbers all around.

Any decent/big games released that didn't chart?

What on earth propelled Batman back into the Top Ten?

The GOTY edition boxart, clearly

So, less than 60k this month?

Since its LTD was around 640k last month, yes.

EDIT: How is it possible both DS and 3DS rose compared to last month, since last month it was a 5-weeks month, while this one was a 4-weeks month. How. O_O

I can say this, even though Nintendo hasn't (yet?) revealed its data:

Legacy DS and 3DS sold the exact same number of units in July.

Well, that's...a good thing. A pretty good increase in the weekly average for both, and the XL is coming. Interesting.

Things finally starting to turn around? Anticipation of Kingdom Hearts at the end of the month? Anticipation for NSMB2?

Nintendo needs to kill it off.

I wonder how many people bought Dead Island GOTY edition and were thinking 30mins later....'how did this win GOTY?'

LOL

Are you really Balotelli? Coz i'm pretty sure that's something he would ask...even if he had just been to see DKR.

Awaiting the incoming MS presser who announce they outsold the competition again, and Sony crickets.

edit. Hoping for decent Vita numbers ...

Why would you hope for decent Vita sales when July saw no retail releases?

I don't even think there are any Vita retail releases scheduled until Madden at the end of August.

By the way, we can thank sales of accessories for mitigating what could have been even more damage. Sales of accessories were up 8% in revenue YOY (and I haven't said that much this year). The picture was significantly more bleak for the hardware and software sectors.

It depresses me to look into that list, I couldn't care less about any of those games.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Wich I don't think it's a bomba mostly because it's a niche game with one of the most unpronounceable names ever.

Theatre + Rhythm, what's hard about it?
